  1. MechArmor TacOps-1.... Finally
  2. I actually used the same gas block. I had the front clamp milled off, and then re-parkerized the whole thing. This is a 14.5" barrel with a rifle length faux-gasblock. As for the "room for adjustment is there between the "ears" of the mounting clamps"... There isn't any. I used a small file to take out a considerable amount of material from between the "ears" to get them to close tighter. If you take off too much you will cause a football shape to the clamp closing. The other idea I had planned was some foil tape my brother-in-law had laying around. It had very little adhesive (similar to painters masking tape) and was very thin. I planned on wrapping several layers of the foil around the barrel, and then trimming the excess after the install. If you have one in stock, you can use a rifle length gas tube to line up the gas block... EasyEJL's way is easier.
  3. I didn't know you considered me to be your son? I figured I was too old for the role. I still accept the gracious gift, DAD. I won't turn down the CM901 if you want to hand that down too!! Very nice block of metal you got there. I bought the same one a few years ago and I love it!
  4. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/beating-caught-homeowner-nanny-cam-article-1.1381703 May the most vengeful angels in heaven find this man, and take the ultimate penance from him for his evil actions. This is EXACTLY why I carry EVERYWHERE... In my home, when I get the mail, at church, at school, in the movies, at my in-laws, in the hospital, even all those taboo places that you're really not supposed to carry... I STILL CARRY!!! Some times I carry one, sometimes I carry two or three. All the time I carry something. If you ever see me wearing a backpack, know that I am carrying a LOT.
  5. It's perfectly normal for a barrel to be between .74" and .73" between the gas block and the muzzle. If you want to mount a faux-gasblock to the barrel, it can be done with a little ingenuity. The simplest way is to build a shim for the missing .02" I did exactly this for my 300Blk build. The best shim I was able to make seemed little hokey, but it worked out great. I cut strips from an aluminum can and wrapped the barrel with several layers. After I achieved the desired thickness, I just clamped the gas block on. You can't even see the aluminum unless you disassemble the rifle.

  7. I'm not following this very well.... What are permanent sights? I don't think I can even imagine what they'd look like on an AR format??? The closest I can imagine is an A2 FSGB, but knock out two taper pins and its removable too. If you don't want detachable sights, get a gas block tower sight.
  8. Thread resurrection. Finally swapping out my BCM for a TacOps-1
  9. How much I think it will help? Not very much. The ramp is more for guidance than actually being used as a feeding chute. If the ramp were struck by every round, imagine how much wear would result. The angle a cartridge points as it is stripped from a magazine is supposed to be aligned with the mouth of the chamber. The ramp is more of an aid for when that alignment is slightly off. Even then, I think that is more for full auto fire... Hence the reasoning for creating the M4 cut barrels and receivers. How much do I think it will hurt? Not at all. No harm done there. A little extra polish in that part won't effect any of the mechanics or safety features. Shine it up to a mirror finish, till you can shave in the reflection. I can't imagine any damage you could do with just polishing. As long as you don't remove material and change the angle of the ramp, you should be fine.

This wouldn't be as funny if it weren't true. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=-LIpAxjPt9U
  11. My barrel was made from a Satern blanks. Also, Mike Rock from Rock Creek barrels makes a good chunk of metal. Wilson combat and Noveske make really nice barrels too.
  12. Norgon Ambi mag release.
  13. They're worried about evil black rifles!?!?! I said it before... If you take away the guns, evil will find a way to evolve. Is the evil they're trying to prevent worse than what will be created in its absence? I'm not saying this is the best example, but an X-ray/radiation/cancer gun sounds pretty extreme... http://www.guns.com/2013/06/20/kkk-member-arrested-for-building-ray-gun-threatening-obama-muslims-video/
  14. That's the real LA! Not to be confused with our L.A.
  15. Dang it! I want a rifle with a BAD Inc logo!!
  16. Send the OP a PM. He hasn't been active here in weeks.
  17. I remember when CTD was selling surplus NATO FAL mags. I think they were like 50 for $50, or similar. Reviews said there was a lot of rust and damaged parts, but the salvaged parts still made the cost worth it.
  18. Welcome from NorCal.
  19. Born and raised in NorCal. I have wished every day of my adult life for that imaginary line between us and SoCal to become a reality. I've been talking with the wife about relocating. Possibly MT or ID... I'm still holding out for Flagstaff, AZ too
  20. Not with that budget. The barrel and the handguard hold the majority of the weight. The stock is next. Each of those options can cost you $250-$350.
  21. Welcome to the disfunctional family of the .308ar world. I like to relate the .308 rifles to close family. The AR-10 is like that much older, estranged, brother who went off to war. He only has what he needs and only uses what he knows works. All the DPMS/KAC variants are the younger, cooler, high-tech siblings. They grew in the shadow of their older brother, but with a Hollywood twist. We get the newest and the fanciest parts first. Then there's those fat-bastard, ginger, cousins who come to visit from RRA. They always brag about how comfortable their orthopedic shoes are and then bitch about nothing else fitting. Hahahahaha
  22. I compare my BattleComps to my wife's designer shoes. When I go out, I like to be comfortable AND look sexy.
  23. I am known as a battlecomp whore. I think it is the best comp on the market, and justifiably so! I own 5 of them in various sizes.... That said, I relate to your issue and if you are willing to spend the $$$$, there may be an option. FIRST: Check out the AAC 51t Muzzle Brake. The one with two brake chambers. They run about $125-$150 depending on where you find it. SECOND: Check out the "QD Brake Shield" sold at RainierArms.com I think they cost $75-$80 That will effectively turn your brake into something like a Noveske KX3 or PWS Diablo. Plus it'll look sweet and be 100% unique!!!
  24. I've thought about grabbing that .22 conversion for the Sig P220. Do you like yours?
  25. I've been a motor for 6 years... That's my daily nightmare.
