Best money savings idea for a .30 cal AR... 1. Buy a Mega AR15 lower (here or here) from our local contact and master dealer Dave Branson. 2. Build a yourself a .300 Blackout upper assembly, with all the bells and whistles. Don't hold back, because this is Daddy's gun! This will give you a .30 cal, and the ammo is cheaper than factory .308 <thumbsup> 3. Buy your little girl an Armalite dedicated .22lr upper here If you do decide to make her a "pink" gun, don't waste your money on something outrageous. Tapco has a simple set that you can easily install. The whole .22 AR can be built for about $600. HERE is the Tapco set

As Edge so eloquently put, the size difference between the AR15 receivers and the 308AR receiver is far too much to accept a simple upper swap. That being said. I have always said, "where there is $$$ there is a way." unfortunately I think this venture might outweigh the value of the rifle. If I were attempting a build like this, I'd get a 308AR barrel chambered in .223 Rem, then I'd work on customizing a .22lr conversion kit to fit in the MUCH larger upper receiver. I could expect the end cost to be around $2k+... Just for the upper.

Jgun is right on the mark. The 20" won't make a difference till you get out to 600 yards. At that point the 18.5" will be dropping really fast due to the lower velocity. If you're shooting that far when you hunt, the extra weight shouldn't be much of an issue. Personally, I wish Remington would release the barrels from their R-25 models. 18.5" lightweight profile barrels. They seem excellent for hunting. SS, you are one of the lucky few to grab those 16" FA barrels. Rumor has it that some were trying to shoot cheap soviet surplus out of theirs, and complained about cycling. Now FA only offers the 18.5". I'm double jealous because, if memory serves me, you have that barrel on a Kaiser receiver... That is also really hard to find.

Remember this isn't your average "carry" though. This is a "duty" gun, and I weigh 260lbs. Add another 30lbs for gear. Four or five ounces isn't going to break me any. Besides, the P226 is far from being anorexic and I've been carrying that fine for 10 years. On the flip side, I think I'll give Springfield's custom shop a call on Monday. They have an LEO program, and I might be able to order something a little fancier??

All those options are 4" to 4.25". I want a commander size 1911, with a rail. I like 5" for target shooting. It's just too much gun for my hip when I'm in a car.

Hey SS... You could always pull that FA 16" barrel off your rifle and put it up for sale. Then just put the 18.5" on your original rifle... I may know someone who wants that barrel  ESPECIALLY SINCE I'M STILL WAITING FOR MY C.F. BARREL!!! >:D

OK, for years I have been fighting my department about the carry rules for handguns. As it stands right now, we are allowed to carry almost any double-action semiautomatic handgun in 9mm, .40S&W and .45ACP. Currently I carry a Sig P226 in .40S&W. I really have no complaints about this handgun, save one.... It's not my 1911!!! A new regime has come into power, and the age of a tyrant dynasty has ended (old chief got the axe a few weeks ago). In light of the power shift, the new chief has asked to reexamine the handgun policy. With that said... It's shopping time... And it looks like 1911's will be back on the menu!!! So here in lays my problem. I can't just simply carry my old trusty Springfield TRP Operator with full length rail. I mean, I guess I could, but why waste the perfect opportunity to buy something NEW and carry that one instead?? Here is my current wishlist, in no particular order... You will see a common theme here. Sig Arms 1911 Carry Scorpion  Kimber USA Stainless TRP/LE Pro  Springfield Armory LW Champion Operator  The Sig is a great gun. I have experience with their 5" models and I think they are GREAT. My only issue is this only comes in TAN and the external extractor. Both I can live with. The all stainless Kimber is sexy as sin. Kimber hasn't had the best track record lately though. It also will require a lot of extra parts to make it ambi, like the other two models. I am torn between the benefit of a bull barrel vs the bushing barrel. The Springfield is the least expensive option, by about $300. I'm not a fan of the aluminum frame though. I also don't like that I'll be sending it out immediately to get the front strap checkered. Of the three models, this is the only one I have shot. So many choices <dontknow> ... The first person to say "BUY ALL THREE" must immediately punch himself in the guts for me.

They launched a flare on the show. The 37mm does not fire explosive rounds. Only the 40mm is explosive. You can get "Dragon's Breath" type shells for it. Additionally, if you register it as an AOW, you can get a 12 gauge adaptor for it. -

Here's a breakdown from what I can see (aside from the AR10 itself). What I also saw was an 18" stainless barrel with a Cooley muzzle brake on the end... Probably also a JP Rifle product. -
Did anyone see this episode? Did you hear the $10k price tag he put on the AR10 with a few JP and Magpul parts and a mediocre paint job? How do I get into this business? If I gave someone $10k for a competition rifle, and he handed me that rifle, I hope he saved some of that money for his upcoming dental bill. Tell Niki Jones, from the TX women's shooting team "Sure Shots", to call me. I'll charge her half that, and give her twice as much rifle. I hate to see people taken advantage of. I truly hope that price tag was for TV purposes, and that the real price was MUCH lower.

That sure is a colorful example of how to use four letter words.

It has a "key hole" forge stamp, so I'm pretty sure it's quality. There are very few actual "forging" companies.

My eyes water every time I see the AXTS price tag... :'(

The Mil/LEO board has been put on hiatus for a short time, until we can work out some logistics on our side of the site. Thank you all for your understanding and patience as we work through the process.

<thumbsup> I like it... but I'm not giving up my crank!

The bottom slides out like the Magpul MIAD grip. There are several "accessory" type inserts for these grips. Samson Mfg makes a multi-tool if you were so inclined.
-
Easy as pie. Simply drop in, and screw down.

Cheater! 99% of the fun is shooting the 100's of rounds it takes to break in a barrel. <laughs>
