  1. I can't see that the 300 Whisper, the 300 AAC Blackout or the 7.62x40 Wilson Tactical can differ much... if at all. They all come from cut .223 (or 5.56x45 NATO). I really don't see how the 7.62x40 WT isn't more popular. It would seem you could play with loads a lot more? If just one of these cartridges would hit a mainstream 123-125 grain super sonic bullet, I would be sold. I have my .308 shooter, and I have my .223 plinker, but I need my hybrid combat machine!
  2. Apex CNC Machine. You just have to select their "post 2009" option.
  3. After watching what some of the 10mm builds, and seeing the trial and error in their progress, I have put this plan on the back burner till further progress is made in the engineering. Since I had a majority of the parts anyways... I am turning the build over to either a 7.62x39 or a 300blk. Both have pro's and con's. I'm leaning towards the "AR-47" build due to ammo prices and lack of a suppressor. It sucks that my best source for a bolt/barrel had a bad case e-diarrhea in the middle of our forum. That could be reason enough to push me back to a 300blk.
  4. Good to have another on board! Welcome
  5. You guys enjoy your days off... :'(
  6. Haha, I'm here. Just reading and trying to keep up. You wake up 3 hours before me bro. I gotta get that first cup of joe in before I post. This has been a topic at the briefing table for about three or four years now. Especially in the Sacramento area. I know of several officers that are several thousands of dollars invested into their rifles/equipment and are not happy about the situation. We have to look at the the most important fact right now though. Fact: The AG's "official opinion" was that officers should not be allowed to keep their AW's after retirement. That is not a judgement. That was an opinion Jerry Brown made in an open conference just before he became Governor. While the Lib's are hanging everything they have on that comment, it is not a final judgement. There has not been a case* brought to the courts yet to demand a decision. *I mean a case that deals specifically in a retired LEO's ownership of an AW. Not some jackass selling department property from the trunk of his car or on eb@y Isn't the basic concept of Communism, allowing everyone to equal privilege? I agree that Joe Citizen should have the right to own whatever he wants. My opinion is biased though. Remember that I deal with a LOT of shitheads on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis. These people need to NOT own any weapons. While I think it should be made easier for some to own, I still believe there is a need for checks and balances for those who shouldn't own. I do have a problem with this though: Joe Citizen is not going to instinctively put himself in harms way just because he owns an AW. I understand wanting to own it for personal/home use, but a LEO's personal/home use is not the same as Joe Citizen's personal/home use. We react 100% of the time, to all threats. Joe Citizen isn't required to, nor expected to, react to anything. Sure there are "good Samaritans" out there, but the good:bad ratio is a bit off balance. A prime example happened just a few years ago. A friend of mine, off duty LEO, was driving on the freeway when he saw a deputy in a shootout with a suspect in the center divide. Without hesitation he stopped his car on the freeway, removed his AW from the trunk of his car, identified himself (they already knew each other, same dept), and engaged the suspect with the deputy. Hundreds of cars passed during that time... no one else stopped. There is currently work being done to write a bill that would amend the current law and establish a secondary exemption for those who leave LE on positive terms (ie. retirement). This would not include those bad eggs who are dismissed from duty for whatever reasons. I think they may also have to establish that they were in LE for a period long enough to justify the need. Very similar to how our CCW's work for retired officers. You can't just come in, work a year, then quit and have the eternal LEO CCW. Those LEO's that registered AW's, purchased under the color of authority, may have to re-register those AW's as "Ret. LEO". Currently the California Department of Justice has the authority to grant all California residents the exemption to own any Assault Weapon, SBR, SBS, or .50 BMG. All they have to do is justify the need in the eyes of the DOJ. $35 and an online application [and a good reason] is all that's required.
  7. On Christmas this will have been going for one year. Mr Bransen has mentioned in the past that this will be an ongoing "group buy" for those of us on 308AR.com There's even a few of us that have used Dave for more than one occasion. You simply can't beat his prices or his service. For what it's worth, I always check with Dave before making any large gun purchases. PS. Dave, PM incoming.
  8. It really irks me when sellers spam their own sales with key-words; FS: 03 Dodge ram. Honda Ford Chevy Sex Lindsay Lohan Damnit! When I want to look at Lindsay Lohan I don't want to weed through pages of spammed Dodge ads!! Oh yeah, and some people put AR10 and DPMS in the same ads too.
  9. Probably not. In all likelihood they'll regret both minutes of my greatest effort, trying desperately to erase the memory from their minds for the rest of their lives. Thankfully, due to the invention of iPhones an webcams, I'll cherish the experience for weeks... Maybe months!?
  10. Normally I don't like to get in the middle of other peoples relationships. I think it's rude and classless. In this situation, I wouldn't mind being smack-dab in the middle. I would be fair and unbiased, examining both sides equally! <thumbsup>
  11. That was the long way of saying, "trust me, it's a fancy new way of SUPER case hardening." That's good enough for me. I think I'm getting ready to pick up one of those 7.62x39 middy barrels. I really wish they were 14.5" instead of 16 :'(
  12. I too would be interested in a lightweight 16" rifle length .308 barrel (w/ a .750 gasblock). I'd be even more interested in a lightweight 14.5" mid length .308 (1:11) barrel (also w/ a .750 gasblock). That way I could add the BABC for a 16" OAL. That'd be one heck of a hunter!
  13. Isn't that a sexy lookin machine!? I am extremely hard pressed not to try to get into one. The only thing that scares me is the price. They want $450 for their stripped AR15 lower :o , what are they going to want for their stripped 7.62 lower??? <dontknow> I'd also like to see them come out with an upper eventually. Preferably a slick side, without an ejection port cover. Maybe even some kind of left/right side charging handles???
  14. The AX762 has the left side mag release. Someone will have find a way to disable that button too. Dang California >:(
  15. I wonder what my chances are for my BCG to still be stamped "SI Defense"
  16. My folks drove into town today and had dinner with my wife and I. My father wanted me to have this as kind of a Christmas gift. He said that he'd rather watch me enjoy it now, rather than make me wait for another 30+ years to inherit it. He has carried this when hunting with me from as far back as I can remember. It was "the one". As I was telling my wife, this is the pistol that built all my respect for firearms. Treat it well and it will do exactly what you want. Mistreat it and KABOOM! Colt SAA .45LC (2nd Gen, Mfg 1905) Just thought I'd share with you guys.
  17. A retired Lieutenant with a .308? :o Be careful LT, that thing kicks a little more than your old stapler. <lmao> Glad to have you here. Also, glad to see that you are taking advantage of life after career. I hope we can help you burn through that monthly check with all kinds of fancy new toys.
  18. I will post on Christmas day!!!
  19. Many of us can see and understand how you're feeling. I'm sure Ol' Joe is looking on you from wherever he is and seeing how well he is remembered. You made quality of the limited quantity you had, and that is what's most important. It's what you do with those memories that matters most. How do you pass on what you learned from your mentor to the next generation? What part of your life do you share with that kid working in your office? I'm sorry you hear you lost such a good guy. At the same time, I'm happy to hear that such a great guy existed in the first place. My prayers for Joe and his loved ones tonight.

  21. That's nonsense! You have a .308 my friend. You are already in a league far beyond those "other" guys. There is nothing plane about flinging 168 grains of hot lead out 3,000 feet! Welcome to our party.
  22. SS, you're right about the longer extensions from Armalite. Although I think it's just the full length extension that's longer. The carbine/collapsable extensions should be the same as others. @RoadW3 / Eric, You can't pick a buffer too short, but you can pick one that's too long. Any carbine or shorty buffer will fit in your rifle. I read somewhere that the 5.56 H3 weighs the same as the 308 standard buffers. If money is available, the Enidine "AR-Restor" hydraulic buffer is also an option. More expensive than most, but still under $100
  23. All those fancy new guns... While I may be one of the younger guys here, I guess I'm just an old soul at heart. I carry an old Walther PPK/s in my waistband and a Maverick .357 mag derringer in my pocket. I used to carry a Colt Mustang, but the Walther shot better. My wife carries a Colt 1903 in .25ACP. She loves that little bugger. Our "go to" guns are also our traveling guns. I have my Springfield TRP Operator and the wife has a Glock 17. I use an 8 round Wilson Combat mag while in the holster, with CMC Power 10+ in my belt. Wife has 17 rounds in her pistol and a 32 round mag for her purse. That's what happens when you take a Roughneck and a Cowgirl, make them both cops, and they get married. Funny part is, that's just what we carry when we're NOT expecting trouble.
  24. My kingdom for an AX762... Lol, at least I think that's the projected MSRP. It's sad that I'll never see one in Cali. It's such a beautiful piece of work. I would have bent that direction if I could have thought of a way to Californize the left side mag release. Maybe when I move it with 98V5Z. Then I can own all the fun toys!!!
