  1. CA DROS fees are usually $35-$50 for me.. Depends on if I have to have something shipped in.
  2. Unforgiven, You need to get a sonic washer or a solvent bath. We used to use them to wash small engine parts. Just drop the parts in the cleaner, turn on the machine, and leave it alone. When you come back after a few hours, everything is clean... Similar to how a brass tumbler works. It still takes hours... but they are auto hours, not your hours.
  3. I have the Magpul MS2. It's a decent sling, although I'd like to try some of the cheaper versions (ie: VTAC) as I'm not sure the MS2 is 100% worth the extra $$$. Major benefit of the MS2 is the soft material the sling is made out of. While it sucks that it snags on velcro and then looks all "hairy", it is very comfortable. It doesn't pull and dig into your neck. I do feel that the metal attachment pieces could be upgraded. They haven't failed me, but they don't feel like the sturdiest parts that could have been used. I don't have any function complaints. I mainly use the single point attachement, but switching to the double is simple and fast. I have to use a cheap, hard, nylon three-point at work and I hate it! I refuse to wear it "properly" and usually adjust it to be used as a two-point. If my single-point preference were to ever "wobble" or "flop around" too much, I think I would invest in something similar to the TAG Weapon Catch found HERE and HERE.
  4. I work way too much to have too many hobbies. Honestly, guns are my biggest hobby. Sure I play a little Modern Warfare when I can, and chase my dog around the backyard a bit. The wife and I enjoy a lot of outdoors stuff together. We did a bunch of quad'ing lately. She has a pretty tricked out race ATV (Honda TRX 450R). My quad was just for putting around behind her. I sold my quad and started working on selling hers too (starting a family soon, and ATV time is vanishing). I still have my old '87 Jeep Wrangler (my first car) I'm constantly working on. That keeps me hunting and fishing when time permits. Wife wants me to turn it into a "rocker". (She drives an '07 Ram 2500 6.7L Turbo Diesel on 37's) Winter's a comin'! That means I get to dust off the snowboard and hit the slopes soon. Wife bought me all new gear last year, so I gotta take advantage of the oportunity. Wife likes to wakeboard in the summer. I'm too fat, lazy and full of beer most of the time to manage a wakeboard... But I do enjoy our time on the lake. Mostly spend our money on traveling. This world is getting smaller and smaller everyday, and I want to see as much of it as I can before I check out. Been to several countries over the years, on several continents. I probably would've seen more by now, but I have a timeshare in Cancun MX and friends/family in Brazil. Most trips have been to those two places. Lastly, I begrudgingly add, my wife is a Disney fanatic. I get my guns, she gets her Disneyland. At least once a year she gets me to take her to Disneyland for 3-5 days at a time. Now I was ok with the first trip, seeing as I hadn't been there for 15 to 20 years or so. After that... I learned a lot of tolerance is involved in a marriage. Gentlemen, I have learned how to survive Disneyland and take full advantage of a situation. One of the benefits of being an adult with a decent career is I sometimes have the ability to spend a little extra money. My secret here, Disneyland's Grand California Resort & Spa has free beer!!! I can tell you how, if you're interested. My life changed the day I figured this out. The extra money I spent was WELL covered by my beer consumption. Bye-bye bar tab, hello concierge service!
  5. There are manufacturers that use HK G3 mags similar to the 91. I think the design (while very sturdy) stinks, but to each his own. I have seen the Euro mil surplus stuff on CTD going for about $2 ea (when bought in large lots). The quality of them isn't all that great (rust, dirt, dings, dents, scratches). I heard that you can usually gut them for parts and make a few decent mags though.
  6. Botach is having a sale on Peltor ears now.
  7. Now that's funny! I admit, I had to scroll up to see how it is really spelled. <laughs>
  8. No fair if that's a SBR! I have an old Colt AR-15 with a 16" pencil barrel, A2 open sights, CAR stock and mil plastic furniture. Nothing fancy, all Colt. It probably weighs in around, if not under, the 7 pound mark. It's my plinker. I used to drop a Colt .22lr conversion in it when I was a kid, and shoot all day.
  9. That's about the going rate for a JD Machine lower. They are based in San Diego. Great guys, super nice gun parts.
  10. @Jeff, There isn't a .308 specific grip made that I know of. That being said, all the grips should be the standard AR15 grips with one hole, for the safety selector. On an AR15 the take-down detent spring is installed horizontally and held in with the receiver plate. On a 308, the receiver is too long to mount the spring in the same manner. Instead the spring sits flat against the top of the pistol grip. The only grip that really has an issue with this is the Magpul MIAD. There is a missing area of plastic that the spring normally sits on. For AR15's that isn't an issue, but for 308's we have to be a little crafty. I guess that's my loooong way of saying, there should only be one small hole in your pistol grip.
  11. Glad you could make it. I hope we can help you find what you're looking for.
  12. ROBOCOP 2012!!! Ford Police Interceptor 2012 Bringin' back the Tacti-cool Taurus!!
  13. I've only known them to burn up on a full auto gun. Never played with a supressor, so I can't say if that will burn them faster. You'll know just by looking at them. When they cook they will bend and twist. If they're just dirty you should be able to scrap off the carbon. I pull my bolt out and scrub it real good with a copper brush. Although, now that I have a piston kit my gas rings are history.
  14. <hump> <hump> <hump> <hump> <hump> <hump> <hump> <hump> <hump> <hump> <hump> <hump> Nuff said..
  15. Sig's have a notoriously long trigger pull. If anyone gets the chance, try out their new SRT (Short Reset Trigger) models. It's a really nice option for SA/DA pistols. Sig will convert almost any model to the SRT.
  16. I carry the Sig P226 .40, but not by choice. It's the only auth pistol for duty. My CCW varies on what I'm doing. Mostly a Walther PPK/s .380, or my .357 derringer. If I'm "in it" I carry my 1911. I still have a bunch of .44 mag "Black Talon" rounds I use for Pig hunting. They fly real good from my Browning Mod92
  17. M2, Did you know we still use Black Talons? Winchester "Ranger" ammo is just a renamed brand. Sure they did away with the blackend tip... but the ballistics are all still the same. They even use the same nickel casings. I'm on duty right now, and I have all my mags loaded up with them.
  18. This breaks my heart to hear. That looked like such a sharp build. Can re-post this, with pictures and a full parts list, in the "For Sale" section?
  19. Great gun for a first buy! Nice job. Welcome home <thumbsup>
  20. Welcome aboard! My uncle recently retired (CSM) after 27 years in the Army. He too spent most of his time in Bragg. Beside being a hero, he's also one of my favorite people. It's a small world.
  21. M2, I think I have the perfect guys for you. I have two friends that may be able to help in that. Both have 30+ years LE experience, significant SWAT training and large agency management skills (both were Lt's). Of course id like to help out as much as possible.
  22. Since you are mainly focused on the AR10 compatible build I'll point out a few things.. 1. You already noticed that you will need the MA-Ten, so skip this one 2. Titanium firing pins = light primer strikes. Not really saving as much as you are losing in this... That's why people stopped using them. 3. Double check on the charging handle choose. I'm pretty sure AR10's require longer handles than the LR308s. 4. Flash hiders and Compensators for combat. Muzzle Breaks for precision shooting. 5. Magpul LR-20 PMAG... Not in an AR10 compatible rifle.
  23. Honestly... I say go with a standard Armalite AR-10 BCG. Whoever you send it to will strip the parkerizing off and then re-coat it with the NiB.
  24. I'm glad others share my lower abdominal physique! 150 to 180, which did she like more? I admit to not knowing much about RRA's, so I'm unaware of the twist that comes with the Operators. I really like that handguard too.
