SI Defense is DPMS/KAC compatible. The MA-10 is both, Armalite or DPMS, but you can't mix and match parts. If you get an AR-10 barrel, then you need an AR-10 bolt. If your heart is set on a Noveske barrel, you will have to build an Armalite compatible rifle. The BCG you described is only made by SI Defense (hence, DPMS only). I don't know of an Armalite equivilant. The SI-D BCG IS $600 now. You can get similar BCG's and send them in for NiB, TiN or hard chrome coating... All for much less.

Wmdguns.com does very affordable NiB coating. As far a BCG's are concerned. I think how you plan to gas your rifle is important first. If the rifle is ever going to have a MIL/LE duty use, get a standard gas block. If competition/paper poking is your game, go for an adjustable gas block. I don't believe in precision pistons. A good sturdy BCG is perfect for duty use. Fulton or YM make good clean gear. SI Defense is really nice, but twice the cost. Then add a CWS, CS flat spring and an upgraded buffer. Competition and bench shooting, I have to say the JP "Low Mass" BCG combined with a good spring and controlled gas. I would stay away from heavy buffers, but I might consider a hydraulic buffer. Since precision is your aim, and not combat, I would go for a good heavy (Cooley?) break.

Despite looking really cool, those uppers never really jumped in popularity. My only guess at the reason is that people are afraid of the side bolt when it is cycling back and forth. On a similar note, JP makes a left side charging handle that is independant from the BCG. Kaiser Works used to make a forward mounted, left side charging handle. I REALLY wanted that upper (KR7), but I think the company went the path of the Dodo bird.

Hoot, welcome to our playground... I hope we have something to offer you. From the looks of your first post, you've been around the block once or twice already though. Without trying to thread-jack here... I think the only platform that accepts the longer cartridges are those that use the G3 magazines. While that platform isn't my personal choice, I really do have a fondness for the Fidelis Arms receivers. If for no other reason than the fact they are trying to build a 12 guage upper!

I think you can get what you want fairly easily. A 16" mid length (or rifle length) AR with a standard A2 front sight block, and a fixed rear sight. Then get a scope with a trustworthy quick release lever. A comfortable, decent quality, collapsible stock will easily transfer to both applications. Keep the open sight, A4 styled AR for home defense. If you use the Magpul MOE handguard you can quickly attach a flashlight (if you really think that's a necessity) to a modular rail. When it's time to go hunting, attach the scope to the top rail and go! I've posted several times that a 16" barrel will perform satisfactorily for most hunting applications out to 300 yards. The A4 style rifle will be lighter than 99% of the bench behemoths that guys are toting around at the range. A .260 Rem chambered rifle will gain you a bit more attention and more adaptability. I would lean towards a flash hider or compensator instead of a muzzle break, since sub-MOA precision is not your goal on this build. In all honesty, I think you can get away with a great build for less that $1200 (+optics). Maybe a bit more, depending on how crazy you go on sights, trigger and other sundry internal/external accessories.

.400 CorBon is a drop in conversion too. Aka, the "Poor Mans 10mm"

The benefit of the 338 Fed over the RCM is the casing. The 338 Fed uses the same bcg and mags as the 308. All that req'd to convert is a new barrel, or have a gunsmith bore out and rechamber your existing barrel for about $150. The RCM would need a new bolt, possibly a different buffer system, barrel, and customized magazines.

That is a pretty pistol! It reminds me of an old LAR Grizzly Mk1 that father carried. He hunted Alaskan tundra often, and kept that for bear. That .45 Win Mag is a beast. The Delta Elite with full load 10mm is my heavy auto of choice now.

The MA-10 is the designation for the .308 format "Mega Arms" AR. It is primarily a DPMS clone, but you can also use an Armalite barrel with an Armalite BCG. 308ar.com has an ongoing group buy through Dave Bransen. Very well made rifles from an excellent seller.
