  1. I've got the Norgon Ambi on one rifle, and I like it. I'm not sure yet if I like it enough, or would use it enough, to put it on all the other ARs. I'm right-handed, but shoot with both, so I practice both sides. Mag drops are definitely better with it, left handed, there's no doubt. Like any other weapons configuration change that you make, you'll definitely have to train for it to use it to it's designed potential. My opinion is that if I really need to make a mag change when shooting left handed, then it's paying for itself - I better hope that's the rifle I have at the time that I need it. If I need to make repeated left-handed mag changes, I need to find myself a better shooting position... <thumbsup> If you're left-handed, it will definitely benefit you. Troy makes one, but I haven't even seen one yet, much less used it.
  2. Definitely shoot it more before you make your decisions about steel-cased. I'm running heavier buffers in the 5.56 guns, and the worst problem that the steel-cased ammo give me is failure to feed the next round sometimes, because that crap is low powered. I've played around and tossed standard carbine buffers back in there, and all is good for shooting it. YMMV... Definitely needs a good shootin'-in first, though. <thumbsup>
  3. I love these guys, and I'm damn happy that their onboard here. <thumbsup> Thanks, Battle Arms.
  4. Welcome, wilky. <thumbsup> You said you wanted to build one, so that's where my suggestions will go. What kind of distances do you have in Utah? What kind of accurate range are you looking for out of the hunting gun? You can take a 16" barrel out to 5 or 6 hundred yards, accurately, but for hunting specifically, you might be better off with 18" barrel choices for the same ranges (and even more). Weight will be paramount for a hunting rig, so stick with lightweight barrels - Fulton Armory offers a very nice 18" lightweight cromoly barrel that will do well in a hunting role. Fulton also has DPMS-based upper and lower receivers, and their upper receivers are the ones you'd need as far as rail height goes - there's alot of information about this posted here on the site. Everything else I'd make as light as possible, and I'd free-float the barrel by way of a free floating handguard. For hunting, one of the better free float handguard options (as far as weight goes) might be the APEX handguard. I'd run a rifle receiver extension instead of a carbine receiver extension, and simply mount a standard A1-length stock on it. It doesn't get much lighter than that. Optic of choice in a good mount, and you should be set. Let us know what your primary concerns or goals are, and we'll be glad to help out.
  5. You over-estimated my patience... <lmao>
  6. Or mrraley will know. <thumbsup> I'm thinking that the original AR-10s used the current SR-25 mag design, and once the ban went into effect all rifles since then use the current design. I'd bet I'm far off, but it's something like that. I know the current SR-25 mag design was the Armalite original design.
  7. No joke, brother! <lmao>
  8. Sweet! Drew, you got two birds with one stone, with this thread. <laughs> <thumbsup>
  9. Call up Knight's Armament and see if their iPod mount will work with an iPhone. <thumbsup>
  10. Nothing reliable yet. People keep asking, but no solid date has been announced yet.
  11. Versions of the upper/lower combo, but this is as of January this year. CAD images only. For what it's worth, their CAD renderings of the 5.56 billet set turned out perfect in the real world - just like the CAD looked. I ended up with the 31st one off the machining line, and it's pretty damn sweet. I've had one problem with it, and I fixed that on my own, but it came out exactly like the CAD templates looked. It's a damn fine shooting gun for what I built it for. I love it.
  12. No way, brother, no way... One thing I'm "gifting" to him - besides the whole rifle - is a complete, newest-stuff-pile from CMMG. He'll primarily be blasting the .22LR conversion bolt in stainless, mag adapters for the bolt hold-open, with the insert for the forward assist, yada yada yada. I can afford CCI Mini-Mag for him - but I can't afford his .223 Rem addiction, and still grab this 98B. :o
  13. Ha. Ha. <laughs> My son's 15th birthday is July 4th, so it'll be July for sure. I've already been picking out AR-15 parts for him, so he can stop shooting my hardware. <lmao> If it's his, he's fully responsible for cleaning it. <thumbsup>
  14. The MDT TAC21 is officially out for me - just got back from my negotiations with my favorite FFL over the 98B. My cost OTD on it is $3995, and that includes the custom-cut Pelican case for it and the extra magazine (2, total). He's making me a deal on whatever optic I pick for it, on top of everything else. Now, to scrape together $4k... another $3k at this point, with the grand of mine I threw at him on Saturday. :-[
  15. This topic has been moved to Christensen Arms. [iurl]http://308ar.com/forum/index.php?topic=1596.0[/iurl]
  16. That's a good looking build, man - nice job. <thumbsup> Did you have to fight the MagPul MOE handguard onto the rifle? I've been wondering if it just drops right in there or if it's a chore.
  17. Those monsters can be ground-mounted. <thumbsup>
  18. Yes, I have. I'd love to have one of those, but there's no way I could feed it. :-[
  19. American Defense mounts. Their AutoLock levers are exactly what you're describing. <thumbsup> I've got two of these mounts, and love them. Check those guys out: http://www.americandefensemfg.com/
  20. That says it all, right there. <laughs> When I was living in VA with the Little Woman, I built myself a "workshop" out back - very well separated from the main structure of the house. It was extensive, and quite well appointed, I must say. I did that on purpose... <thumbsup> After local gunshows there, I spent many a night in the "workshop..." <lmao>
  21. Finished version of this gun - it's complete now, after mounting the light today. Changes made from the last pics are: Midwest Industries T-10 FDE rail, Surefire Executive Defender light in a VLTOR mount - believe it or not, it's damn hard to find a mount for a 3/4" light... <dontknow>
  22. Not a damn thing - I don't believe in getting rid of firearms I already own... ;D I'd give him a motorcycle or two, though... <laughs>
  23. About $3,500 from now... :(
  24. I did hand them a quarter of the thing. :-[ Right then. :o I was only going in there for ammo, man...
