I wasn't aware they made those for .308s... What the hell are you building now? <dontknow> <lmao> You're just as much afflicted as the rest of us. <laughs>

EXPENSIVE! Souls ain't cheap - I used mine to finance a bunch 'a gunnage. Just like Drew said... :o

DNP made a reference to this just because he knows me... The Year In Guns. I've had a hell of a build year this year, based on past parts, stuff laying around without a goal, etc. My most embarrassing moment was turning a spare gas tube roll pin into a complete gun - I was afraid to lose the roll pin, so I got a gas tube, then a block, and it all went downhill from there. Before I know it, I had another AR. Here's the pictoral Year, so far. I'll get stumped in May, because I'm waiting on parts to be made. May will definitely be the last one of THIS year, too. Sorry guys, I'm not building a .338 Lapua. I won't cave in to your peer-pressure... :o Not THIS year... ;D January = YHM striped lower and upper, YHM 20" 1/7 barrel (badass barrel!), Colt M4 complete BCG, and various Magpul parts all over it. Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 scope in Burris XTR High mounts. It's the most accurate AR I have: February = spare Colt M4A1 SOCOM upper I had taking up space had to turn into something. I pinned and welded a YHM Phantom onto it to get it legal, and combined it to a AP stripped lower. Bushnell red dot on it, Magpul parts all over, Redi-Mag (shaved down), and it's BY FAR the FUNNEST gun I have: March = the BIG ONE. The DPMS .308. DPMS stripped upper and lower, Magpul MIAD, DPMS LPK, A2 stock, Cabela's Pine Ridge Tactical 3-12x40 scope on an Armalite one piece mount, Troy MRF 13.8 rail, and Knight's rail covers. I forgot something... :o April = Little Woman's build, for her birthday. Spike's Mega stripped lower, AP upper, Armalite 16" midlength barrel with a 1/9 twist (she's not shooting anything heavy...), Magpull goodies all over, and the same Bushnell Trophy red dot in an Aimpoint QRP mount, and surefire M951 light. She WILL learn how to shoot this thing well... ;D May/June/July will be interesting, to say the least. I think it's gonna take that long to get the next one together. Based on that, and what the damn thing is costing me, it's the LAST build this year. If I could do more, I would, but this one is killing me... <dontknow> :o

My "Year to Date" pics are pretty stupid. I'll try to start a new thread in the Black Rifles section about it. It's nothing more than a sickness, affliction, addiction, abduction, anomoly, bewilderment, etc. It's not even funny... <dontknow> :o

Hey... I thought you were gonna have me use that thing for a range target? <lmao> <laughs>

What distances does your range offer for rifle?
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
If I can get off my butt and get my "request for membership" completed for Quantico Rod and Gun Club, then I'll be maxed out at 1,000 yards. I think the club only has access to that one twice a month, or something like that, but I'll be on it. There are others there ranging from 600 yards and down that are routinely scheduled for them. I'll get that stuff done. <thumbsup> My favorite free range is a 100 yarder run by the Wildlife Management Area, but it's seasonal - only open from 1 September to 31 March. I was on that one regularly until the end of March. There are several indoor ranges nearby that only go to 25 or 50 yards, and only one of them supports rifle caliber - others are pistol-only. The NRA Headquarters indoor range will let me shoot anything I currently own, but again, it's only 50 yards. -
Nah, it's real - I moved the vertical grip back a few notches when I flipped it around for the "other side" pic - did ya catch that? ;D <laughs>

Welcome aboard, man. <thumbsup>

Anything for you, man. Couple a sexy looking chunks of billet, yeah?! D'OH! :o Did I say "billet"?!!? ;D

She's itching to get out and shoot it. She's got the stock in the position she likes, the AFG is set, and the light is right where she needs/wants it. She's not keeping that light, though - no way. That's going on mine when it's finished. <thumbsup> That's what I keep telling myself, anyway... <lmao>
-
Final rendition, after she swiped my foliage AFG for my new one. I'll grab another, or just run the RVG on it. Here's how it ended up: We still haven't had it to the range yet. Waiting to pick up some Final Finish ammo first...
-
Ah, I couldn't space it out anymore without either the barrel or the stock falling off that little bench... <laughs>
-
Well, here's another mock-up pic. The barrel came in today. It's a Nordic Components barrel made for them by Wilson. 1/8 twist with a .223 Wylde chamber, 16" midlength gas. It came with a free midlength gas tube, was on sale for $185, and the shipping was free. What's not to like? <thumbsup> ;D There'll be another mock-up update pic Monday afternoon...

Any Mil or LEO guys here - DSG Arms has a very substantial discount for the Magpul LR-20 Pmags. A few cents less than $15 each. Just passing the word, as I noticed they had them in stock today and haven't had them previously. <thumbsup>

I don't understand what RRA meant when they told you the barrel extension was different, so it could accomodate FAL mags. The extension doesn't interfere with mags. Unless they've done something with the feed ramps (maybe it's a single, centered ramp?). I don't think it would be possible for RRA to change the headspacing, if the gun is either NATO or .308 Win chambered - they'd have to stick to those specs. Kind of a backwards was to find out what it going on is looking at the bolt - does it differ radically from a DPMS or Armalite bolt? You'd need accurate measurements to confirm, if there are no apparently visual differences. Length of bolt lugs, width of them, number of them, spacing, etc. I'll throw a digital caliper on my DPMS bolt for measurements, and get some pics, if you need/want that info to compare.

Magpul MIAD grip on LR 308 TAC 20
98Z5V replied to Para308's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Dusty, that won't work quite like that on a Magpul MIAD grip (or the MOE grip; it's formed the same way). The way Magpul hollowed out the grip, there's no material in there to drill into for takedown spring placement. There is a captured area already formed into it for the safety detent spring, just nothing in there for the takedown spring. If you mounted the grip without modding the lower, the spring would simply fall to the bottom of the grip, and the takedown detent wouldn't be in contact with the takedown pin. Unfortunately, about the only thing you can do if you want to run a MIAD or MOE grip is the drill/tap/set screw mod, with the appropriate amount of spring clipped off. Here's the innards of the top of the MIAD - the MOE looks just the same: -
He's too humble, IMHO... ;D There's MAD skills there, and if I say it, he won't admit it. He's good. <thumbsup> DNP, Doooooon't you get upset with me... You're the one that posted your own pics (and let the cat outta the damn bag...). ;D I'll take full credit for derailing your thread, though. :o
-
Dude, I SAID that already... The whole "my buddy is a professional race photographer" thing... I know you remember this - DNP is THAT GUY... <thumbsup>
-
Drew, don't listen to DNP - the dude is NOT a good influence. I'm just sayin'... ;D Take my word for it, or whatever... :o
-
Haaaaaahahahahaaaa!!! <lmao> Welcome aboard, man - that's how it starts with most of us, too... <thumbsup>

ADC posts routinely on M4Carbine.net - that's where he puts out most of his piston info. He's got it down now, running well. John, I built my rifle on the Fulton M110 look, with a Fulton chrome BCG and Fulton 18.5 barrel: Fire questions if you want/need. <thumbsup>

Right here, Matt: https://surplusammo.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=33&products_id=329&zenid=020792df7e8fcfc5a2bdd450689e2653 I'm running an Aero Precision lower on my 14.5" gun. It's tied for 1st place as the nicest lower I've got, right there with a Spike's made by Mega Machine. It's a great lower.

Drew, I grabbed that target almost as soon as you posted it, and added it to the others I have on file. It took me a moment to realize I need to put those others up here too. Here's 24 different targets from the North American Hunting Club, free for anyone (from them): http://www.scribd.com/doc/8453904/Shooting-Targets-Printable

I saw a BUNCH of it last weekend at the gun show here. Not that it means anything, besides there was a bunch of it being vended... :D

Welcome aboard, Scott! Roam around, check things out, have fun - teach us about Noveske AR-patterns! <thumbsup>
