  1. I think I'm going back out tomorrow and shoot some different ammo through the .308, so I'll have some targets of that to put up. In the meantime... Here's the 20" precision 5.56 gun. It's a YHM lower, upper and barrel (1/7 CMV chrome lined), and this thing is probably the most accurate semi that I have. It's nuts. I tried several different types of ammo through it last time I took it out, and the results were pretty good. I shot PMC Bronze 55gr, .mil M855 62gr, Black Hills/Hornady V-Max 60gr, and Black Hills 77gr SMK. PMC 55gr - all over the paper, not really grouping. Kinda what I expected through a 1/7 barrel. M855 62gr - a little better. The 60gr V-Max - this stuff surprised me, and did very well! 77gr SMK - this is just what I thought would happen with this stuff. Very happy with it. So, until tomorrow, this is something to look at. Makes me want to go out now...

D'oh!!! Right in the pills!!! :o
  3. It's not even in the same class. Quality, construction, overall rigidity - the GG&G is just better, everywhere. When I look at the Harris bipods now, they all look like they're "stamped out" of the material. The GG&G is a work of art - a very heavy duty work of art. The legs lock up and lock down (not a plus to some people, but I like it). It cants left and right, something you'll only get on a few Harris models ("S" models) - and the tension on the cant is adjustable - something not available on any Harris S model. Also, there's just about no way to secure a Harris to a gun in the same manner (as secure) that you can secure the GG&G - the picatinny mount of the GG&G is built right into it, and just about everything out there for a Harris takes an adapter of some sort - the the standard Harris bipod swivel stud mount isn't anywhere as secure as a pic mounting style. Here's what it take to mount a Harris on all the guns out there... Keep in mind, all you need to mount the GG&G is a Pic rail mount, nothing more... In a nutshell, I'll never go back to a stud-mount bipod, and there are no Harris options out there that do tha same thing as the GG&G, for the same price, quality, simplicity, et al. I'm sold on the GG&G after using it, and I'm looking for more of them.
  4. I've used several different Harris bipods over the years, and they're good. I bought a GG&G heavy duty bipod awhile ago, and that's all I'd like to use from now on - it's great, in every aspect. I picked up the GG&G HD XDS for a precision 20" 5.56 build, and I ended up using it on my LR-308. Originally, I thought I'd just use that bipod between the two guns, but now I'm looking for the lighter-duty version (just the XDS) for the 5.56 gun. Fantastic bipod.

Very nice! If I sign up again and hit that magic 100, do I win anything special?... :o ;D
  6. Maybe a call to Tactical Machining. I know they offer finished stripped uppers in black, but they might be the best bet - I think they do everything in-house themselves. It's possible that they'd sell one before annodizing. http://www.tacticalmachining.com/
  7. Stumbled on some 5 round and 15 round Magpul LR-20s on the Midwest PX website. Don't know what the hunters on the board have restrictions on, but the 5 rounders might fit the bill nicely. I've done business with Midwest PX in the past, and they're excellent. http://midwestpx.com/product_info.php?products_id=399?osCsid=ugaauhfqupibji0ofeivroajn1
  8. This is it - the final. It's test fired, scope is sighted, and she's done. I put the YHM Phantom on there, and it added about 2.5" to the length of the 18.5" barrel. I just wish it was as economically cheap to shoot as the 5.56 guns, which are getting better. ;) I'll be trying out some 168gr HPBT Match reloads from a place called Mac's Reloads ($18 per 20). I'll give an update on those when I get back out to the range.
  9. Lasts until midnight, June 20th... <thumbsup>
  10. That is sweet, man! Good job! Awesome shooting neighbors you had there, too!
  11. Welcome, man - what part of OH did you come from? I'm originally from Zanesville.
  12. I think the closest you can get is custom finishing. Duracoat has a match for it, but you may have to call them and talk to them to verify. http://www.lauerweaponry.com/ Duracoat "Colt Gray": http://www.lauerweaponry.com/item-detail-colorchoice.cfm?category=220&colorchoice=dcr_08.jpg&colortype=stock
  13. I've had my BCG apart a few times now, and that stock pin is tight. I'm sure my Fulton BCG is just the DPMS stock stuff, same/same. I've had to tap it out, and tap it back in everytime now. Don't know if it'll loosen up, but I'll keep tapping it anyway. Hope you guys get to feeling better!
  14. Well, I didn't even intend to go to the one here, but I stopped in there anyway to look around. I walked out with a Spike's stripped lower made by Mega Machine, with the "Gator Grip" on the front of the magwell. I was shocked to even see it there, and it was $91 OTD after paperwork. I kinda couldn't help it, so I guess that means "I have a problem." ;D I have no idea what it'll turn into, but I've been thinking about building a 16" mid-length with Magpul Foliage stuff on it. That's where I think it's heading.
  15. Stock Armalite Stock DPMS Fulton Ambi (really, just a latch) BCM Gunfighter
  16. Troy, specifically the MRF-308 - same system fits both Armalite and DPMS just with the inclusion of a DPMS-threaded barrel nut that's really an "Armalite barrel nut" on the outside. If you have an Armalite, you order it and chuck the DPMS barrel nut that comes with it - you just mount it straight to your AR-10 stock barrel nut.
  17. Yankee Hill Machine (YHM). Not sure if AAC makes anything; can't find the 7.62 stuff on their website, but I thought they did the Blackout in this caliber.
  18. Wow, man - several new sections today! You've been workin'! ;D Looks good, too.
  19. I'll pick one of those springs up and try it out. When I was building this gun, I just wanted it done, at that point, and wanted to shoot it. Had I found one of these springs someplace where I was ordering other parts, I would have picked it up. I'll get one and try it now that the gun is finished (and shot). I'll have something to compare it to now, and I know this thing kicks like a mule... :D
  20. Good luck, man! We've got a show near me this weekend, but I don't think I'll go. Don't need the temptation!
  21. There's a few .308 hunters on here - they'll find this topic pretty quick I'd imagine. ;D
  22. Adjusts the tension on the swivel (left and right cant; unlevel ground). It was probably cranked down (locked) from it's origin. Loosen it lightly with a pair of pliers if you need to. When you mount it up, you can loosen and tighten while you're testing the swivel tension, and find what you like. There's either a bronze or brass bushing in there, and the thing is smooth.
  23. Love that thing. I was already shooting with a modififed grip on the VFG, and this just makes it easier. Way more comfortable. I figured if I didn't like it, I could just sell it for what I paid. After working with it, there's no way I'll get rid of it.
  24. YES!!! I just saw this topic pop back up, and I was hoping it was this - "Received!" The thing is tough! I used it today on the 308 - have no fears, man. I've been tossing the idea around to pick up the lighter-duty one for the 5.56 gun, and leaving this HD one on the 308 for good.
  25. I forgot to add this part, but it might be worth a phonecall to Spike's Tactical for a few questions. I ran my 14.5" today at the range, wth the .308. It's the first time I've given it the shakedown, and I used the Spike's ST-T2 buffer in it (H2 weighted). It's a powdered metal weighting in there, instead of the sliding weights that are typically used - and it's sweet. I've had alot of time on the 14.5" carbines in the past, and this thing shot much better than previous guns. If they say that buffer would work in your 20", I'd highly recommend it.
