  1. Man, I have no fear of that - I'm always wearing a .45, chambered, cocked, safed. Ready to go. I'm faster on the draw than her - much faster. :o ;D
  2. Well, updates - got the Bravo Company shipment in today - blazing fast, if you ask me. Ordered on Friday, received on Monday, and that's with them shipping USPS Priority Mail. They fuggin' ROCK! Tuesday is the bulk of the big parts, coming from DSG Arms and the AP stripped upper from Surplus Ammo. Thursday is the confirmed delivery date of the stainless LPK, and that makes it a complete shooting firearm. I made it, so far, for her B-Day on the 17th. All I need now are the ear rings to hide in the pistol grip compartment - when she's pissed that she got a sweet rifle for her B-Day, at least she'll have something else to "open up..." :o ;D
  3. Man, that's a... a... Damn, that's a BLESSING! Later in life, you'll be thankful! <munch> Just trust me on that one... :D Maybe you need a PRS, maxed out on the LOP (length of pull) adjustment. I'm just sayin'...
  4. A2 stock is short? Dude, you're like an orangutan or something, right? Loooooong arms? :o Just kidding, man - that stock is about as long as a "stock" stock gets, but you gotta be "lanky." ;D
  5. Inside shot of my Pelican 1720 for the M4, with CMMG .22 conversion bolt (in tube), 5.56 & .22 mags, cleaning kit, spare 14.5" upper - that upper turned into a completely new gun, and the whole case needs redone now. I just haven't picked up a new piece of foam and cut it up yet. :o

    Range Day!

HAHA!!! <munch> Matt, check out this thread here, about targets. Look at the different ammo I put through my 5.56 precision gun, and the different groupings each load performed. Same gun, same shooting style, yet radically different groupings for it depending on the ammo used. It's a 3+ MOA gun, and a sub-MOA gun, depending on the ammo. Shooting style/technique didn't change a bit. http://308forum.com/index.php?topic=116.0 You're doing good, man - don't sweat it. ;D
  7. Yep, my fault - lower parts kit. Brownells has some videos on the 'net on the installation process, and there are many very good guides posted on different message boards. It's a job that about anyone can do with a few basic (talking VERY basic) tools. If anything were to go seemingly wrong, you've got tons of help right here on this board, too. There's alot of us here that would chime in on guidance, written assistance, tips/tricks, whatever.

    Range Day!

Despite all the internet hero stories that are everywhere - sub-MOA shooters all over, just ask them - that's good shooting. You have to look at it in the perspective of "size of the target." Large animal, one you'd typically need a .308 to make the meat hit the floor, most of those shots are coming into a 2" x 3" area, roughly. At 100 yards, you're definitely pretty close to hitting exactly what you're aiming at, as far as where you intend to put the rounds. Are they effective? You bet they are. If you were going for a "right behind the shoulder" shot on a big deer, would he go down? Yup. Scoop up some match grade 168 grain - something made more for accuracy shooting than hunting - and those groups would tighten up more, with the same exact shooting technique. For re-man 168 soft points, that ain't bad at all, man. Good stuff. :D
  9. I've got a Pelican for one of the guns, various other brands of hard cases, and one soft bag. I think the next hard case I pick up is going to be one of the newer Plano gun cases. Looks pretty high quality, very similar to a Pelican case, at about 1/2 price. Right now, they only have them in 36" and 42", but for a longer AR-type, you can just separate the upper and lower for case fitment. Example of it: http://www.valorcorp.com/products/product.asp?root_id=277&cat_id=277&item=2170025
  10. They already have finished, annodized .308 lowers. Last time I checked, they were only $200 before shipping - that's one hell of a deal for a stripped .308 lower. Did you check into that, possibly going that route? Assembling a stripped lower with LPK is pretty simple to do, regardless of experience level.
  11. Cabela's had a pretty wide variety of it, so that's where I'll get it for the 5.56. Just FYI.
  12. I've been looking at the Tubb's Final Finish System for awhile, but never got around to trying any of it - basically, it's just a special bullet with some light abrasive ingrained in it, loaded up and ready to fire. Here's the info on what it's supposed to do: Like any finely machined equipment, your firearm needs proper breaking in to ensure optimal performance, especially the barrel. This ammunition erases tiny irregularities left behind by the machining process in new guns. One box properly breaks in the barrel in a way it would take several boxes of regular ammo to do. For bore conditioning only. Not designed for hunting or other shooting applications. Use caution and safety with this product as with any other ammunition product. Well, I went to the range a few weeks ago and I was beside a guy breaking in a 6.8 SPC with this stuff. The very first 20 rounds he put out of it was this ammo - he couldn't find it loaded, to he ordered the bullets straight from Tubb and loaded them himself. At the end of the day, he was shooting 0.5 MOA out of that gun, which is incredibly impressive. For him, it was the second time he's used this stuff, and he swore by it - after watching him, I'm more inclined to try it now, especially since I'd been wondering about it anyway. I've got a 16" midlength AR-15 that'll be finished next week, and when I break it in, I'll use this stuff. If anyone else has any experience with it, let me know how it did for you and your shoot-stick.
  13. PRI stainless lo-pro block in .936. That would look sweet sticking out there. ;D
  14. I can feel a plan brewing... 8)

    Crazy Weather

I'm getting it, too. I was riding the motorcycle last week in a t-shirt, but that's not happening now. About a week from now it'll be back up, but's it's only a gradual temp climb to get there. Global Warming, huh? ;D
  16. Well, it's further than I thought jusst for shooting. I did the drive from VA to Maine in August, and it seemed shorter. Might be worth it for a week of shooting, especially with the 600-yard range on Quantico. Looks like 7 hours (about 380 miles) from me to Hartford...
  17. Matt, where are you located in NC? Same to you, Drew - I'm in Northern VA, so we're a few hours apart, but not that far, practically speaking. I'm working on more shooting areas here; I'll keep you updated. They're here, I just need to find them. Quantico is looking very promising, once I'm into the Rod & Gun Club there. My free range is only open between 1 Sep and 31 March, but it's very nice for a 100-yd range, and no-kidding completely free, run by the state.
  18. Good luck, man! May you find great parts at cheap prices! :D

Haha! Hell yeah it is! ;D Ended up tackling the Honda Accord, too. 1991, old, but not tired yet. Had to replace both CV axle shafts and the speedo sensor. Just like the work on the Dodge, one side easy, one side a PITA - I had to cut one of the axle nuts off, after a 425ft/lb impact gun wouldn't take it off... >:( Speedo sensor was hard to find, but not too bad to replace.
  20. I've now got most of a gun on the way - building up a 16" midlength gas AR-15 the the Little Woman's birthday next week (cutting it close!). Parts on hand already: Spike's stripped lower from Mega Machine, Magpul MOE grip and trigger guard, 7 x 30-rd windowed PMags. Troy TRX Extreme 13" rail, Surefire M951 weapon light, Knight's vertical pistol grip, and Aimpoint QRP mount. Already shipping, and due to me on the 13th: Aero Precision stripped upper, Magpul MOE stock and complete carbine stock hardware, Magpul front sight, Armalite 16" midlength barrel and midlength gas tube. Just ordered this morning: Timberwolf Tactical SS LPK, crush washer, YHM lo-pro gas block, forward assist assembly, ejection port door assembly, Gunfighter charging handle (large). Haven't received a shipping notice on this stuff yet, but it should ship today hopefully. The planned red dot for it is a Bushnell Trophy, and I couldn't find the right Magpul rear sight online at a decent price - I've got a local guy that I can pick that up from, so I'll get that purchased early next week. Her B-Day is the 17th, so I hope all the stuff gets here in time. It'll suck for me if it doesn't. All the Magpul stuff is Foliage. EDIT - Hmmm... Don't ya know. I wanted the BCM standard midlength barrel, but they sold out of the thing last month. I hit the email notification for stocking on that, and wasn't gonna hold my breath that it would be back in stock in time. I ordered the Armalite barrel yesterday as a suitable replacement, and I get the email from Bravo Company this morning that the barrel is back in stock today... >:(
  21. I know it, man! I talked to him last night about some of the remaining parts - gonna be SWEEEEET!!! ;D
  22. Damn, this is gonna be a good looking boomstick, brother. ;D
  23. Yeah, you can order just the bolt carrier if you want to. You don't have to buy it with the bolt. You might have to call Fulton Armory directly and ask them about it, but they'll have it. I didn't see it listed on their parts page specifically, with the exception of the side cocking chrome bolt carrier. http://www.fulton-armory.com/
  24. Welcome aboard, Matt! For teh gas block question/answer: Yes, AR-15 gas block will work (all the same stuff, really), but you just have to get the right sized diameter block to put on your barrel. Depends on what the barrel manufacturer sized the gas hole portion of the barrel at. The common sizes are 0.625", 0.750", and 0.936". Another that comes up once in awhile, but not common is 0.875".
  25. This made me literally laugh out loud...
