This bolts into the side of the receiver, to secure the bolt catch:

This is gonna get spicy, when you turn that key on...

I was thankful for the Korean Defense Service Medal. The Korean War never ended, and still hasn't ended to this day. It's tense, in South Korea, for a tour of duty. I've been there for 4 tours, and 10 TDYs, that all total to over 6 years of my life in that country, and in it's defense. I had 3 one-year tours that always ended up being 13 months, a 2-year tour that ended up being 26 months, and a fuk-ton of TDYs. The recognition in 2002, and the creation of the Service Medal, gave recognition to the duty you have to endure there. It ain't easy, even if you speak the language.

I've almost gone there several times, but I've stayed away just for the offereings that they currently have. All the BDC scopes are for light projectiles (55gr for 5.56 and 150gr for .308). The .mil scope reticles they offer haven't interested me yet. Close, but not yet. For their BDC scopes, I honestly thing they need to get up on the heavies, and make BDC scopes for heavy projectiles. 75/77gr 5.56 loads are damn near identical to 168gr .308 Win loads, over distance, and with wind. If they did something like that, I'd be on it like a fat kid on a cupcake. I'd look at Primary Arms, if I were you, and were hunting for something BDC. I can vouch for those BDC scopes, over distances out to 850 yards.

Question, here... Why are you going for a 200-yard zero? That complicates things later on, for shooting longer distances - and that cartridge will do longer distances, easily. Why not set the ballistic chart up for a 100-yard zero, alleviate some of those issues, and use the chart to zero at the distance you have, for 100? I have 30 MOA in the base on my .300 WIn Mag. With the Nikon scope I have, I can't zero shorter than 500 yards. It's dead-nuts at 500 yards, too. I have to use hold-unders to shoot shorter. It's 16.9 mils of dial for a mile, though. I'd zero it shorter, if I could zero it shorter. My 500-yard zero complicates things for me. I don't have the internal travel in the scope, with the 30 MOA base, to do any better than that, so I live with it/deal with it.

That will make a tremendous difference in the rest of the dope chart, brother. Re-zero that thing, and get back after it, and confirm your chart. After that, you'll have the confidence to trust it, and verify it at longer distances. "Ballistic Truing."

I was poking around yesterday with some of your other comments, and guessed it might be the RT6 with that reticle. It's pretty far off for .308 Win use, but I was basing that off my own dope on my 178gr .308 Win load. I'll look around more, and see if some other .308 Win common trajectories will work out to the 600 on that scope. I'll get back to you in a couple days on that part of it. FWIW, I'm very familiar with Grendel and distance, loads and drop to yards, on that caliber. Fire off questions on that if you have any.
-
I can tell you for certain, that the difference between 75 or 77 grain 5.56 precision loads is damn near identical to the trajectory from a .308 Win 168gr precision load. So much so, that you can share bullet drop information between those two loads, over many of the same distances. They're almost twins, for trajectory over distance. Once you move to a 175gr .308 Win load, things change. Little less drop over longer distances, over the 168s. This all comes down to what Burris you bought, and what Burris (the company) calibrated that BDC reticle for in the first place.
-
Tell me the exact model of Burris that you bought, and what reticle option you have in it, and I'll look at it. I'll be able to tell you if it will be off, close enough to work with, or no bueno. List the exact scope. What ARs in the past did you shoot this with, and how close was it with those ones? 5.56? Distance matched, at full distance, like 600 yards? What ammo in 5.56 was it dead-nutz on? Details matter, when trying to figure this stuff out on a BDC scope.

Odd, but consistent groups that I can’t explain

@LensWork, you were on here tonight - did you read this thread again, whilst you were on the board? -
Better off running a bolt gun with a 16" heavy barrel and a can. Then you don't have to worry about cycling. Still Hollywood quiet.
-
We'll get it running, don't worry.
-
Probably won't need it. Get the recoil system fixed first and test it out.
-
^^^ Love that statue. The very opening days of the Afghanistan fight.
-
That's like comparing Apples and Hammers....

You completed half the things necessary for a functional rifle. You addressed the gas system. You still have an underpowered recoil system. That BCG is flying fast as hell, because it doesn't have enough recoil system to keep it under control. I agree with what Rex stated. When modifying a gun, you change one thing at a time, and see how it does. However, we have the recipe down on Large Frame ARs, and if you're gonna fix the gas system, you should fix the recoil system at the same time, before you go test it out.
-
Which Burris did you use? I llke a bunch of them, good stuff.
-
Can wait for you to get here, brother. Really.
-
I can do that. I'll daisy-camo this thing, but with all dirt-colors. Great idea, brother! It'll get the Sexual Chocolate base, first.

Well, Welcome Aboard Again! Glad you came back! Big group of us south of Phx a little, we get together quite often. A couple times a year, there's a whole bunch of us from this place that gather down here for a loooong weekend.

Found this out, on their length information: The short/small with clear the M110 charging handle when fully collapsed. The medium with clear the M4 charging handle when fully collapsed. The long/large is designed for side-chargers and rifles equipped with side-folders like the LAW Tactical. <<<Buuuut... you can't charge the rifle with the LAW folder (folded), and the action won't cycle with the LAW folder (folded). That large/long once doesn't make sense to me...

Just a word on that stock. B5 doesn't sell it directly from their own website, and it's not listed on their website. They've JUST listed it on their own website, but I didn't see a way for you to purchase there. All 3 sizes are listed. B5 won the .mil contract for that stock to replace/outfit all the M110 service rifles. Therefore, it's listed for $225, and you won't see it much below that, anywhere, because contract vendors to the military (B5 in this case) have to sell their wares to the public, for the same price that they sell them to the military. That $600 hammer that the military buys - is gonna cost you $600, too. That's also why genuine KAC M110 rifles individually are $15k, and the full kit setup is $25k. Now, on the stock... it's listed as small, medium and large. That's ONLY referencing the adjustable riser size. Mine is the small. I've never seen a medium advertised anywhere, but I bet it would have worked for me. My choice was small or large, and there's no way the large will work on most lengths-of-pull for .308ARS, and still clear the charging handle. So, I had Gun Pusher John get the small version. For visual reference, the medium cheek riser would be longer towards the front of the rifle, the large even moreso.

Very well executed build, my good man.
