Double Rabbit-hole fucked me over. THis is Chinese finger-cuffs right here. Let me explain it. In this vid posted below, I've been watching this guy for a few weeks now. Street performer somewhere in Florida. He's a one-man-band, that lays the beat down, then sings it. He's fuckin' BADASS. One-man-shows are always the best, because THAT is the talent, right there. The dude in the yellow shirt is the guy I've been watching - I don't even know how to spell this shiit out, because it's characters. I think this guy is D0DYVAS - looks like "Oh" for the letter but it's ZERO as the number. At any rate, he fuckin' GET'S IT DONE in his vids. This guy can PERFORM. Well, someone asks him to throw down "Tennessee Whiskey", and the other guy steps up to sing it. This is EPIC. Here's the guy that sang that... Vere Hill... Give both these guys the most exposure that you can. THIS is the music that I love. Unreal.

Bill Geissele blows it all out quite well. https://geissele.com/colt-rifle-users-guide

Damnit. I still need to make right with @Armed Eye Doc...

what do you guys do to maximize space in your gun safes?

I still say we bury it in the hill, first. THEN, convert it to a Gun Room... -
@BigNate, the correct answer came from @DNP... @JF89, the commies are already invading. Marxists, Commies, Socialists, "Progressives..." Call them whatever you want, it's already on us. So, the question changes now... What are YOU planning for?... I load as much as I can to keep the guns up, and just make sure everything is operational, as ready as it can be, with ammo being the limiting factor, based on the number of firearms.

I run the A5 recoil System in the Grendels, the ARC, and the Valk. Reason - those fat little cartridges have a little more Woo-Pow than the leeetle 5.56x45. The A5 setup works really, really well. But it's never gonna work in a .308AR - even though we've got that solved in this thread. It'll come up again down the road, I'm positive. Somebody will want to try it... Look at AR15 rifle buffers vs. .308AR rifle buffers. 5.900" vs. 5.200". 0.700" difference in length, because that's the difference in length of the two BCGs - that have to operate inside the same rifle receiver extension. Same deal with AR15 carbine extensions. Internal depth is 7.000" - both platforms need to operate inside there. AR15 buffers are 3.250" and .308 AR buffers are 2.500" to run inside that extension. Difference is 0.750". Close, we're in the ballpark. Armalite did it different in the beginning, ran (basically) AR15 carbine buffers weighted to 5.4 oz via replacing steel weights with tungsten weights... and had to make that extension 7 5/8" internal depth, in order to use that 3.250" buffer length. They did it. VLTOR had to find a buffer length to make (which could be heavier, but you could run a rifle recoil spring inside that extension), that would work inside 7 5/8". 3.995" was the magic answer - difference between the VLTOR A5 buffer, and AR15 buffer? 3.995" - 3.250"... 0.745"...
-
Exactly why VLTOR developed the A5 Recoil System. Exactly. USMC. The USMC will NOT give up the M16A4. They DID need a solution to make it shorter overall, without losing the 20" barrel. VLTOR developed the A5 Recoil System so it would exactly emulate the firing cycle/recoil impulse of the Rifle Recoil System on the M16A4. - but with a collapsible stock. It used the M16 rifle recoil spring, in the Armalite AR-10 receiver extension, with a special 4" buffer (exact is 3.995"). VLTOR makes a KILLIN' on the contract to the USMC... The only thing they really say about is this, on their buffer page: https://www.vltor.com/shop/ar/buffer-components/vltor-a5-buffers-2/

I have not, yet. I haven't even tried the ACSs, but will this Sunday. The only mags that have been in my ARC are the E-Lander 17-rd Grendel mags, so far.

There is a literal SEA of weak motherfuckers right now voicing their opinions, making their name, and generally - just being complete pu$sies. Maybe it's the internet age, and people have to be "influencers" or some shiit. They're fucking weak. You couldn't put these CandyAsses out for a long weekend, handed a quart of water to start - and expect them to come back. Done, they're done. They'd "quit" because it has to be a "reality show" and it's just too hard. Well, HARD is what it fucking TAKES. I think you're right, Mike @blue109 - we went through the good times, and created WEAK MEN. They have risen to "Fame" now, through FB, IG, Twit, Tik-tok, etc... And think they're tough. Those weak motherfuckers are now creating hard times. Same shiit with the current politicians. It'll turn soon, and they'll be forgotten. All their fake-internet-fame... and it's gonna get rough. That's when we step up, and lead these younger fuckers that don't want to be a part of it. We create Strong Men. Many here are already doing it, just in personal life - but it's gonna take alot more. We'll need to bring in the strangers, and educate them. Those that don't want to be a part of what's going on right now. We may not be down at the bottom of that pendulum swing right now - the "hard times" - and I feel it's on the downward stroke, gonna get harder... But it'll come back around. Bring in those that see it, and school them.

I found his barrel - WHEW! That is a bad bitch! https://criterionbarrels.com/products/large-frame-ar/dpms-pattern-308-hybrid-barrel-mid-length-gas-chrome-lined/?v=7516fd43adaa They don't state the gas port, but it's a 0.750" journal. I know an 18" midlength 0.750" journal needs 0.080"~0.085" to run right (just run those at 0.085" and be done). Drop 2" of dwell time on that combo, and you'll have to bump it another 0.005" in gas port diameter to make it run. That thing needs to be running 0.090" on the gas port. My $0.02.

LR-308 build won't cycle properly and I have no idea why
98Z5V replied to Mrj209's topic in Building a .308AR
Great update @Mrj209 !!! glad it's running like it's supposed to! I get lucky with that gas port shiit every once in awhile - glad it worked out this time. -
Stuck that spring in there QUICK! Welcome aboard, man - damn nice boomstick.
-
You work too damned hard, brother. SLOW THE FUK DOWN FOR A MINUTE!!!
-
I'll fired that up this weekend. That is VERY similar to the way I do the corned beef and cabbage in the Orion cooker. Carrots, too, in there with it.
-
Perfect. Now that we handed out the obligatory "free information," go hop in the Intro Section and tell us about yourself. It's here (click it): https://forum.308ar.com/forum/22-introductions/

Yep. I wanted it again, it's that good.

Sprinco RED is designed for the Armalite AR-10 Carbine system. The Orange is designed for 7.000" receiver extensions (AR15) running shorty 2.500" buffers. Use the Sprinco RED in your build with slashes buffer, and the 7 5/8" internal depth receiver extension. It'll work well. The reason the EA1095 spring gets recommeded alot is (1) it never fails, and it's the same spring to use for Rifle and Carbine system, and (2) it should cost you about $8. It's always made exactly the same, from the same materials, to the same dimensions, by the same company - there's no "Aftermarket" in there fucking it up. But, that Sprinco RED is a direct replacement for it - just more expensive.
-
VLTOR A5 buffers will not work in a larger-frame AR, and there's no other part that you can buy to make them work. They're too long. You have 3 buffer-length choices for a .308 AR. 2.500" and 3.250" carbine buffers will work, but each with different receiver extensions. It's specific to each one. 5.200" rifle buffers. That's it, unless you throw RRA LAR-8 dimensions in there, with their longer BCG and shorter buffers, than those listed. You'll never, ever get the VLTOR A5 buffer to run in a .308AR. Ever.

When I met the man, he had deep ties to 25th Infantry Division (Light) and 7th Infantry Division (Light) - and I was from 7th ID(L) doing that funeral detail. That's what led him to approach us that day. What led him to come up to me, and address me directly was the Ranger Tab. Lewis Millett was the (at the time) the President of the 27th Infantry Regiment Wolfhound Association. All Battalions of the 27th Infantry Regiment were either assigned to 25th ID or 7th ID, then. The 7th ID patch and the Tab led him straight to me. My shock was looking at his ribbon stack, with that CMH on top. My LT got the worst NCO-AssKicking of his entire life after that - which he fully deserved, and of which, he fully realized and learned from. I got to meet a Legend, and school a fucking LT in the same 30 minute span. I've had a few of those moments in my career, and that one is right there at the top. Schooling an idiotic Detachment Commander comes in at #2, a Marine Intel CPT is #3, and various other LTs along the way follow it up. Stand your ground. Never waver. If you are right - then you are right. Fix it THEN.
-
Had to fix that one for ya, brother...
-
Wild, how it ties together like that. See if Lewis Millett has a quote in there, and Larry Rosser. I've met them both. I met COL Lewis Millett When I was on a Funeral Detail over Memorial Day Weekend, first female killed in Desert Storm. He was at that same cemetery putting flowers on his son's grave. Badass Ranger that he was, he stopped and observed our funeral detail, and came up to me afterwards. We talked for about 25 minutes, before the dumbass 1LT that was the OIC for the detail came up and broke it up, told me we had to go. I broke away, and jerked a fucking KNOT in that LT's ASS right away... He didn't even notice the MOH at the top of his ribbon stack. He felt like a - well, like a Lieutenant - after that. That's the man. He has a really interesting story. Court Martialld for Desertion, then given a Direct Commission, and sent back in the Army.

Yeah, that's GUNTEC USA's Gen 2 version of a .308AR lower. That's nowhere close to compatible with a DPMS G2 setup. ^^^ Precisely. My point here is simple - there is NO STANDARD for .308AR parts, platforms (3 major platform differences), or any aftermarket standard for a company that "just makes parts, not guns" to follow. Just because you see something that says "Gen 2" on it doesn't mean it's compatible with the DPMS G2 platform. That barrel you have IS for a DPMS G2 platform. Return that $450 barrel to Rainier Arms, eat the restocking fee, turn around and purchase a Ballistic Advantage barrel for around $250-ish, and you'll be in far better shape. Or, you can search out complete DPMS G2 rifles, and mod it. I found some, searching last night - they're out there, at high prices. Realize this, though - You''ll drop over a grand on a full gun that you're gonna take apart and replace most of the parts on, and second - there are no major spare parts down the road, should you need them... If you break a bolt - you then own a very expensive club.
-
Who is stating that? Who is "they"...?... DPMS never stated that, with any of the info that they ever put out - it was never, ever compatible with an actual DPMS LR-308 lower. And they're the ones that made them both. From DPMS themselves, it was a completely brand new upper and lower receiver, and BCG. Also from DPMS, it was supposed to be able to use "any" AR15 handguard - but that didn't work out. Some fit, many didn't. Getting information out of you is just about as hard as pulling my own teeth with vice grips. You need to read this thread, right here, then come back once you're done absorbing it.
-
Then, you have to solve the BCG problem, and the lower receiver problem. If the upper works.
