@Albroswift, the newest Aero uppers and lowers are threaded for set screws for both the bolt catch, and the forward assist. Both platforms are this way. Set screws hold in the bolt catch on the lower, and the forward assist on the upper, both M4E1 and M5E1 sets; they don't have to be the "enhanced" sets for this feature. The set screws are included with the upper or lower, or both if you buy a set - already threaded in there.

If you hit this thread right here, on Full30.com, it shows that same load from me, from 100~400 yards, from a 13.5" barreled .308AR. From 100~300, it's pretty good. I can tell you this - it's gonna be something seriously weird, like a 14-yard zero or something - you need to play with numbers in ballistics engines, and find what works for what you're needing, and focus on Max Point Blank Range... What you need more than anything else, though - is the true muzzle velocity from the ammunition that you choose to use. You need to run that hunting ammo over a chronograph, and find out what's making from your gun...

My point is - they were guessing, too. Because there is no spec on an 18" rifle gas barrel for a .308 Win. Faxon guessed, and Faxon's smart people came up with 0.093", and it didn't work for you. I gave a calculated range of 0.090"~0.095" as the best I could come up with, with the 0.875" gas block diameter. Would it have worked at 0.095" instead of 0.093"? Maybe not. Would it have worked at 0.096" Chances are better... You get the point. We can't call 0.0995" (that's a hair under 0.100", which is huge) a solid "spec" for this configuration because you have an adjustable gas block, and it's partially closed down to make your gun function for you. Maybe 0.097" was the magic number? We don't know. What we DO know is that if someone uses that same barrel, that you have, and they punch that thing to 0.0995" and run an adjustable gas block, they will for certain have a fully functional gun. We have it figured out for the 18" barrels with midlength gas - we've figured that out here. This 18" rifle gas is all new - unless you take the proprietary info from Criterion, from Fulton Armory, on the Fulton Armory medium-weight 18.5" barrel with rifle gas, and run the numbers that Fulton Armory had Criterion make those barrels to - but those FA barrels were all 0.936" gas blocks. If anything is a "spec" for the 18" rifle-gas, that one is it - even with 1/2" more barrel, and the larger diameter at the gas port. The gas port numbers would still be different, though, for dropping from a 0.936" gas port barrel diameter to the 0.875" gas port barrel diameter that you have... That Fulton Armory barrel I described above is what I used on the first .308AR that I ever built, and I ran a rifle recoil system in it, with a 5.4oz buffer - zero issues from the gun, since day one, when I built it in 2010. I appreciate the compliment, I really do - I'm just trying to figure out guns for people, and make working systems that are smart - not "cobbled together parts, but you'd you stop when the gun runs, most of the time." NOT a hit on you - but we see it here all the time, literally. It needs to run all the time, on all the ammo, because we're not building race guns here, or gaming-guns-for-points. For the people that want the gaming gun, or the race gun, they can have that, easily - just spend the money on a complete JP rifle, give them your specs, and that thing will RUN exactly on your specs. JP will do that, all day long. Call them, tell them what you want, and hand over the money, and it will be on it's way.

Run this program, play with the numbers, and see what you get. You never know. Plug YOUR load data into the columns/fields accurately. Plug in your environmental for your area. This might or might not work for you, but here's an example of what's going on with the trajectory. I made this chart up based on my .308 Win Hornady 150gr FMJ-BT handloads, and it only goes from 5 yards to 75 yards, in 5-yard increments. The chart is based on a 5" vital zone. Here's the drop you're going to see with a 20 yard zero.

That's a 5.4oz buffer, right there. You'll need the armalite stuff to make it comparable. That port just seems small as hell, and isn't anything like others that I've seen. Try that sucker out.

Those weren't "specs" at all - I had to come up with that gas port range, based on dwell time, pressure, and diameter at the gas block. That's based on past experience figuring these things out. If ended up being close to what I figured out, but needed a little more. There's no "spec" on this stuff, man, not in the least.

That spring is not correct. Slash might list that spring on his website, and says in his Reference Table that it's for his 3.0oz buffer. There's no specs on it listed in his reference Table because it's a custom spring, per it's listing. Since you state that you got it from heavybuffers.com, the best thing to do is call him. There's not a man alive that knows more about AR recoil systems than him. Here's what he lists. For .308ARs running a 7.000" receiver extension, he recommends the Wolff XP AR15 springs, which are good, for heavier buffers. If you were running the Armalite AR-10 Carbine Extension at a 7 5/8" internal depth, his automatic answer is the Armalite spring, the EA1095. Click the pic to make it bigger... If you look at that Reference Table really close, you're gonna find something out - your buffer isn't heavy enough to run other springs. Look at the buffer weights listed at the top of the table. I'm thinking that spring you have is specifically made for a 3.0oz, 2.500" buffer...

@mrraley nailed it right on the money. What are you going to use the gun for? Is it a hunting rig? How far out will you shoot, max distance? Reason I ask, if it's tight woods and you only get a shot to 100 yards max, but sometimes as close as 25 yards... then we need to figure out a zero for you based on Maximum Point Blank Range... Need to know what your hunting - what animal - and what the engagement range is - like I said before, 25~100 yards, or 50~300 yards... whatever the details are. Reason on the animal - I set coyote guns up for a 5" vital zone, MPBR. I set up a .308AR and a Gendel for 7" vital zone, for deer.
