Fuk did you do to that cow, brother?!...
-
But it runs right, man - so that's all that matters.
-
I will - but I need to bring something. I'll leave the plastic straws...
-
Shoot it, as is, in your hands - don't drill anything... Let's figure this thing out.

Easy piece to find. https://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Handguard-Cap-Round-750-AR15-p/handguard-cap-round-.750-ar15.htm Search out a round hand guard cap for an AR15 somewhere. But, buy from a reputable dealer, and not some chinese crap on amazon...

If you hit this thread right here, on Full30.com, it shows that same load from me, from 100~400 yards, from a 13.5" barreled .308AR. From 100~300, it's pretty good. I couldn't link the thread I made here, because the pics in the thread here are 404 for some reason. https://forum.full30.com/t/zeroing-a-308-rifle-with-iron-sights/11194/25 If you want 5~75 yards, you really need to manipulate data, to get you what you want. I can tell you this - it's gonna be something seriously weird, like a 14-yard zero or something - you need to play with numbers in ballistics engines, and find what works for what you're needing, and focus on Max Point Blank Range... What you need more than anything else, though - is the true muzzle velocity from the ammunition that you choose to use. You need to run that hunting ammo over a chronograph, and find out what's making from your gun...

My point is - they were guessing, too. Because there is no spec on an 18" rifle gas barrel for a .308 Win. Faxon guessed, and Faxon's smart people came up with 0.093", and it didn't work for you. I gave a calculated range of 0.090"~0.095" as the best I could come up with, with the 0.875" gas block diameter. Would it have worked at 0.095" instead of 0.093"? Maybe not. Would it have worked at 0.096" Chances are better... You get the point. We can't call 0.0995" (that's a hair under 0.100", which is huge) a solid "spec" for this configuration because you have an adjustable gas block, and it's partially closed down to make your gun function for you. Maybe 0.097" was the magic number? We don't know. What we DO know is that if someone uses that same barrel, that you have, and they punch that thing to 0.0995" and run an adjustable gas block, they will for certain have a fully functional gun. We have it figured out for the 18" barrels with midlength gas - we've figured that out here. This 18" rifle gas is all new - unless you take the proprietary info from Criterion, from Fulton Armory, on the Fulton Armory medium-weight 18.5" barrel with rifle gas, and run the numbers that Fulton Armory had Criterion make those barrels to - but those FA barrels were all 0.936" gas blocks. If anything is a "spec" for the 18" rifle-gas, that one is it - even with 1/2" more barrel, and the larger diameter at the gas port. The gas port numbers would still be different, though, for dropping from a 0.936" gas port barrel diameter to the 0.875" gas port barrel diameter that you have... That Fulton Armory barrel I described above is what I used on the first .308AR that I ever built, and I ran a rifle recoil system in it, with a 5.4oz buffer - zero issues from the gun, since day one, when I built it in 2010. I appreciate the compliment, I really do - I'm just trying to figure out guns for people, and make working systems that are smart - not "cobbled together parts, but you'd you stop when the gun runs, most of the time." NOT a hit on you - but we see it here all the time, literally. It needs to run all the time, on all the ammo, because we're not building race guns here, or gaming-guns-for-points. For the people that want the gaming gun, or the race gun, they can have that, easily - just spend the money on a complete JP rifle, give them your specs, and that thing will RUN exactly on your specs. JP will do that, all day long. Call them, tell them what you want, and hand over the money, and it will be on it's way.

Jumpin' Cholla!!! They're EVIL!!! That's a damn nice Antelope, brother!!!

OK boys and girls meet the folks who will be voting next November

Pretty scary when you realize that some science fiction authors make WAY MORE SENSE than any current politician, though. Ain't it. -
Run this program, play with the numbers, and see what you get. You never know. Plug YOUR load data into the columns/fields accurately. Plug in your environmental for your area. You might need a 12-yard zero, who knows. This will help, just wade through the fields and input your data. http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmtraj-5.1.cgi

This might or might not work for you, but here's an example of what's going on with the trajectory. I made this chart up based on my .308 Win Hornady 150gr FMJ-BT handloads, and it only goes from 5 yards to 75 yards, in 5-yard increments. The chart is based on a 5" vital zone. Here's the drop you're going to see with a 20 yard zero.

That's a 5.4oz buffer, right there. You'll need the armalite stuff to make it comparable. That port just seems small as hell, and isn't anything like others that I've seen. Try that sucker out.
-
Those weren't "specs" at all - I had to come up with that gas port range, based on dwell time, pressure, and diameter at the gas block. That's based on past experience figuring these things out. If ended up being close to what I figured out, but needed a little more. There's no "spec" on this stuff, man, not in the least.

That spring is not correct. Slash might list that spring on his website, and says in his Reference Table that it's for his 3.0oz buffer. There's no specs on it listed in his reference Table because it's a custom spring, per it's listing. Since you state that you got it from heavybuffers.com, the best thing to do is call him. There's not a man alive that knows more about AR recoil systems than him. Here's what he lists. For .308ARs running a 7.000" receiver extension, he recommends the Wolff XP AR15 springs, which are good, for heavier buffers. If you were running the Armalite AR-10 Carbine Extension at a 7 5/8" internal depth, his automatic answer is the Armalite spring, the EA1095. Click the pic to make it bigger... If you look at that Reference Table really close, you're gonna find something out - your buffer isn't heavy enough to run other springs. Look at the buffer weights listed at the top of the table. I'm thinking that spring you have is specifically made for a 3.0oz, 2.500" buffer...

@mrraley nailed it right on the money. What are you going to use the gun for? Is it a hunting rig? How far out will you shoot, max distance? Reason I ask, if it's tight woods and you only get a shot to 100 yards max, but sometimes as close as 25 yards... then we need to figure out a zero for you based on Maximum Point Blank Range... Need to know what your hunting - what animal - and what the engagement range is - like I said before, 25~100 yards, or 50~300 yards... whatever the details are. Reason on the animal - I set coyote guns up for a 5" vital zone, MPBR. I set up a .308AR and a Gendel for 7" vital zone, for deer.

AHA!!! I found out what happened!!! @shepp posted that cool-ass little offroad trailer after @DNP posted his Big Rig! I hit the "view new posts" thing and it took me directly to the offroad trailer! I feel better now - when you told me you posted it, I was questioning myself pretty hard - 'the fuk did I MISS that?!!?

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! THAT THING IS BAD, BROTHER!!!

Damn. That sucker is small. Based on the barrel diameter at the gas port, I'm gonna say that you'll need 0.080"~0.085" gas port diameter. Crazy, right? Make small steps until it functions, but if it was mine, I'd go straight for 0.070" and move up from there in 0.005" increments until it runs right. EDIT - just on a weird note - shoot it like that and see what happens...

No way, dude - she looks like a man...

@Adamc55, I'm just glad your gun is running like it should. I have to ask, though - is your gun running as it should, based on information I've stated? Did you get your gun running, on information I gave you? Was your dwell time what I stated it would be? I gave a ballpark figure on it, but after I looked at it close, I think I nailed the dwell time. Gas port size? I think I projected 0.090"~0.095" for your barrel gas port diameter, and it was pretty close to that. When you told me you were running adjustable gas, I think I said "just drill it to 0.100" and run your adjustable gas block. You did that, pretty damn close, at 0.0995" drill bit. You're running a 5.3oz buffer, 7" internal depth receiver extension, and a Sprinco Orange spring - which is NOT for "severely overgassed .308ARs" - it just the normal spring from Sprinco for .308ARs running 7.000" internal depth carbine extensions (AR15 parts) on a .308AR, with a 2.500" buffer, of the proper weight (which is near, or on, 5.4oz, in a .308AR). I'm just happy your gun is running - but if you have feedback, I'd greatly appreciate it. If I ever told you something wrong - I'd greatly appreciate that, too, right here, openly.

I got this link from @MikedaddyH...

There are vid links in the link I posted above, so hit the story. The big thing in life is pretty simple, though - I highlighted it in red above. The connection with a group of people with a common goal cannot be understated, ever. THAT is camaraderie, brotherhood, and bonding. Some people might be losing track of that in today's world, but I never will.

I knew John Cena was pretty badass, and I knew he supported the military vets... But I never knew that he supported them this much. This is awesome. https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/john-cena-talks-effort-to-help-veterans-returning-from-combat-keep-from-committing-suicide John Cena talks effort to help veterans returning from combat keep from committing suicide By Frank Miles | Fox News WWE star John Cena is sharing how he is giving back to American veterans. Taking with TV show host Ellen DeGeneres, the grappler said he and FitOps Foundation, sponsored through Performix, would match all donations until Veterans Day up to $1 million to help veterans returning from combat and keep them from committing suicide. FitOps helps veterans find new purpose as personal trainers. It’s a non-profit organization dedicated to helping former active duty members apply the skills they learned in the military in civilian life. FitOps was founded by Matt Hesse, the CEO of Performix and an Army veteran. “Today, there is not adequate infrastructure or services to help veterans transition to civilian life from military service,” Hesse told Fox News. “The donations we raise will make an enormous difference – with it, we will be able to reach more veterans – offering training, education, counseling, support and mentorship,” added Hesse. “Veterans exiting service face unbelievable challenges that most of the civilian world doesn’t understand: a loss of sense of purpose and mission, daily drive, routine and being part of a larger mission and team. This is what we aim to replace through the FitOps program.” Hesse opened Performix House in New York City in February 2018. It’s an elite fitness gym that caters to military and professional athletes. Hesse added: “The greatest joy and satisfaction in my career has come from playing a part in helping veterans find purpose through fitness, and my goal is to build on this so we never have to turn a veteran away. I’m so grateful to John, not just for his donation, but for his incredible passion and support. Together, our goal is to take the suicide rate in the veteran community from 20 a day to 0.” This past summer, Cena spoke about the need of cultivating a community where veterans and those who have served their country get the recognition and appreciation they deserve. In a panel speech, the "Blockers" actor explained that happiness for a man isn’t always about the machismo element associated with being an “alpha-male,” but the connection he may have to a group of people with a common goal. “It's a camaraderie that shows the alpha-male, [that] being the alpha-male isn't being a man. Being a man is being comfortable with who you are, looking at that person in the mirror being happy,” said Cena. “Understand that we're all flawed, facing those mistakes and those fears, and having a support system to back you up when you need help. Reach out and say ‘I don't know if I can do this alone.’ — Have people grab that hand, shake it and hold it.”

Just looked that one up, brother - that's a badass road!
