DSG Arms 22" 6.5CM, Ballistic Advantage in disguse ?
98Z5V replied to bfoosh006's topic in Ballistic Advantage Barrels
I never noticed that ^^^, but I'd have to take them apart to find out. Quite some time ago, AP and BA "merged" in a way. It wouldn't surprise me that DSG got in on that. DSG has other companies making other parts for them, as well. Lemme know if you can tell the difference between the Seekins enhanced bolt catch and the DSG enhanced bolt catch -twins. Just an example. BA and AP: http://aeroprecisionusa.com/ap/ballistic-advantage/ -
Got any 5.56 guns? Go look at them, in this area... I'll pull some .308AR pics for you in awhile.

NO 2.5" BUFFERS IN THIS SETUP!!! NONE!!! THAT'S DPMS-BASED LR-308 SHIIT!!! ONLY USE BUFFERS THAT ARE 3.250" LONG, AND ARE H3-WEIGHTED!!! AR15 H3 CARBINE BUFFERS, OR A REAL ARMALITE AR-10 CARBINE BUFFER!!!

DSG Arms 22" 6.5CM, Ballistic Advantage in disguse ?

Looks just like a BA barrel, brother, all the way down to the font on the barrel inscribing and the logo placement. I have a couple BA barrels and one Aero Precision barrel (which is definitely a BA barrel), and they are identical to that in appearance, with logo placement before words, font, etc. Good on DSG, right there - smart! -
No way in hell can you use that shortass DPMS-based buffer with the "correct" recoil system. You have to move to the AR15 H3 carbine buffer, like I told you. It's just like all other AR15 carbine buffers, at 3.250" long - just like a real Armalite AR-10 Carbine buffer.

bfoosh - your gas tube is too short. It should come to the center of the cam pin cutout.

That's a good start, Bigfoot!

I've got my ideas on what I might see, when I look at everything that's been going on. For one, right away, I now know that the recoil system is not the problem, not with the parts that are in it now. The old recoil system sucked, though. However, the problems continue, with a few new issues or highlights, with a solid recoil system. I already know the gas tube it too short. I suspect I'll find a gas port that's too small, also. That makes a weak gas system, and that weak recoil system would normally operate it. I think I'll find an extractor spring that's insanely stiff, too. Who knows what else. I think those are the big items I'll see, and correct.

HAHA!!! I knew you'd find that eventually!!!

Ran out all the math for the 16" best iron-sight zero distance, and came up with this, for 25 yards. This looks the best, of everything I made as inputs. I'm talking individual yards for different charts. Max of less than 7" at a 25-yard zero, out to 300 yards. Even one yard either way (off 25) opened that up.

DPMS-LR-based recoil system, and the spring is shiit. The buffer probably doesn't weigh what it needs to, either. In complete honesty, shiit-can the recoil system completely, and just pick up real Armalite AR-10 Carbine recoil system. Start there. It needs to be done anyway. You can use the Armalite AR-10 Carbine receiver extension with the 7 5/8" internal depth, or you can use the VLTOR A5 receiver extension. Same/same. Any old AR-15 H3 Carbine buffer will work. Armalite EA1095 buffer spring - <<< that's the key to the whole thing, right there, and the most important part. It's cheap, too. It won't work by itself, so don't get one and just slap it in. It needs those other two components. Great radius job on their ejector - seriously. You'll never have any feeding issues because of that ejector, that's for sure. Squared-off faces on ejectors can cause issues on next-round when the mag is feeding from it's right side. That bolt will never have those issues. What else... That receiver extension pic that you have up there - it's not even screwed in far enough. You probably wouldn't be able to take it in another turn, unless you notched the bottom of it to clear that buffer retainer. That's an assembly problem, as well as a hardware problem, if they're not notching it from the factory. It's shiit anyway, so just get rid of it and get the Armalite or VLTOR extension. The more pics you post, the more I'm gonna find. Get a pic of that gas tube, in the upper, with the BCG removed. I wanna see where it's at in the receiver, and how much it protrudes into the upper...

It's been out for almost a year - and there is not one published review on it anywhere.

That gas tube it too short. You're not getting what you need, as far as gas goes. I wouldn't put it past the gas port diameter, either, and assume that it's large enough. Whatever you do, don't give them that recoil system! Just send them the upper, man... I'll bet I can fix this... For real... I would turn this thing around in a week for you, includes test firing to verify function.
-
You're looking at something as proprietary as the DPMS GII, right there. You will be the one to tell us that works on this... Even the BCG and charging handle are different.
-
Gassing would be the next issue, if those two are good. Over-gassed is my strongest suggestion, based on the pics. Wrong recoil system would be a close runner-up. You've given only basic information on the parts in this build, and so much more is required. What you have to ask yourself is this - how did this piece of brass that stuck in there get a dented case mouth, AND get stuck like that? I don't know... That happens on ejection, when the brass tags the shell deflector. Usually.
-
Damn. I'll certainly keep this thread updated. I hope to get out there in the dirt on Sunday morning,if the weather cooperates. Monsoon is on me, and they're calling for t-storms then.

Inspect the extractor and ejector. Welcome aboard.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2

WHAT?!!? WHEN DID THEY HIT THE MARKET?!!? -
Hmmm... 3 days ago, the US Army cancelled this testing, and the contracts to the 13 companies. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/07/06/breaking-us-army-cancels-sub-compact-weapon-program/ Aaaaaaaand then. 7 hours ago, the US Army announced this new contract to SIG. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/07/09/us-army-awards-sig-sauer-contract-for-sp2022-mpx-and-the-mcx/ From that second article: Oh, sure. I'm sure it's completely unrelated...

Got an "update" email about 10 minutes ago - They've sold 2,000 triggers since noon on Saturday!...
-
I need to make an order soon for some mounts. I'll grab a few triggers, and one extra for you. Since I'm doing that, next time you go out for some fun, grab two blow jobs, and bring one back for me...
-
Sounds like a rescue mission. Got contact info? We can find him.
