Mal, sorry to hear about that, brother. I lost 2 cats in the last 2 months. They were twins from the same litter, over 14 years old. Just old age. The first one went too long, and had a hard time. The second one went downhill pretty fast. It sucked.

It's a members-only place. In the old days, you had to have an invite from a current member just to get in. Now, you can just hit the site and sign up.

I know the timing is funny, but I picked up a new Fur Missile tonight. Mine's "in training," and will be for awhile. His name is Pig. He's a rescue pup, 8 weeks old, and I don't know his bloodlines - but momma has some strong Pit in her. I just know this little guy is THICK. He's gonna be awesome. Here he is, with The Bug. Oh, footnote in history here - TactiCat IS NOT impressed. He's fuckin' pissed.

Gimme a couple days to kick this around - I'm interested. If someone comes along in the meantime and takes it, I'm okay with that. -
It's nothing to do with ignorance, man - there's none of that. Think about it this way - you're actually really helping the people that are too scared to ask questions, and just lurking here. Seriously, that's the only way any of us learn anything. I've learned more here from SS about reloading, than I ever learned reading a Hornady, Speer, and Barnes reloading manual, plus everything I could search on the 'net. Everyone is a student, always - it's when you think you know everything, that you close your mind and stop learning...

Bulging bases, too. I've done that to a couple 300BLK loads. Enough to get the damn things stuck in the fullsize resizing die while trying to reload them. I paid attention to it after that little episode. Split necks are obvious, once you see them. That can come from hot loads, but it's usually from old brass (old means used alot, not age).

MagPul makes a mag that alows a longer COAL, for the heavies. The LR/SR20 and 25 are the "standard" ones for a 2.800" loading. The M118 LR/SR will let you load out to 2.830".

I almost said something...

The powder should do pretty well for .308 Win loads. http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2012/12/imr-4320-yields-great-results/

I set all those things to 2.800" and run it. The 2600fps loads does great with that OAL. Those 2750s were loaded to 2.800" as well. I just shot my last of those up on Sunday, and I'll only load up a limited number of them. Those things stay separated from the others, just for the bolt gun use. I'd hate to mix them up and toss them in a gas gun...

I bought 2 Seekins ambi safety setups. They kinda suck. I used them anyway, but I don't like them. Might as well go with the BADASS selector sets. Nothing will beat those.
-
I set my gas gun range loads, general purpose loads, 150 Hornady FMJBT, at 2600 fps. Bolt gun only load for that I go to 2750 fps, and it's a little hot. Even for the bolt guns.

Get the leg out (knee out, really) on the firing shoulder side. Take pressure off the abdomen and solar plexis. That way, your breathing doesn't have as much of an effect on the rifle. If you're laying flat on your stomach, your breathing affects your sights directly. If you get that knee out there, you're kinds forcing your torso up on your side - breathing still affects your sights, but indirectly, and much less. Rifle in right shoulder, right knee out, body rolled up on left side - support side has more contact with the ground. More support.

I told the little punk to roll that block and get the rifle lower, but she insisted on shooting from the bipod - because it has a bipod... . She's getting good at making hits, so I'll leave her to it for awhile.

This is me and my buddy, up on the 10-foot berm. Overlooked all that scrub down there, so it wasn't in the way. We bored some holes in the earth all around that 830, and were damn close. Just couldn't get them right on the money. I'll have the scope dope straight next time out, that's for damn sure. Crunching numbers on the calculator, turning my mil drops into MOA for his scope: Settling in a little while he was sighting up. Going after it, position set. Must stay properly hydrated in the harsh desert environment... I was all around that 830, and got serious about it. One of these was just holding a mildot offset in the reticle, after getting close, and I smacked it.

This is The Bug. She was ripping up that Crickett something fierce. She ended up bored with the 25, and was smacking the gong at 100 after she learned her hold. She ended up shooting prone. Kinda. Squat, maybe. I don't know what she was doing, but she was making hits... ^^^ She was on Momma's 5.56 at the end of it, and grinning like a miniature fool!

It was 80-ish out there. Kinda warm for this time of year. I think I got sunburnt a little. Shepp would have burned up.

Got out yesterday, and took a buddy that hasn't been shooting in 2 years - he was due. Long story short, he moved to Hawaii and ended up moving back. Didn't take his hardware with him, over the hassles of it. So, we took Win Mags each, his 5.56, my Grendel, and my 700 AAC SD gun. Had Kim and her Mini-Me clone with us (Bug). Bug was on the Crickett Precision 22, and having a blast on a steel gong at 25 yards. We had one more small gong at 100, with zero-confirmation targets. Steel IPSC target at 500, and another one at 830 yards. Overall, it was a bad day for Win Mags and the Grendel. Confirmed their zeros at the 100, but the drop-dope I had with me was setup for 200-yard zero - so the data for mils and MOA dop at the 100 increments afterwards wasn't on. We were close, but we weren't on it. Disappointing. Out came the 700 AAC SD, though, and saved the day. We had some weird wind through the range distance, anywhere from nothing to 8-ish miles an hour, from our right (mostly). Once I got the hold on the wind at 500, that sucker was a victim. See below: Once we went out to retrieve the targets, I was surprised to see one Win Mag hit, one .308 hit, and one Grendel hit on the 830 target. I knew I smacked it good with the Win Mag, and it moved, but I didn't see it moving from the other 2 hits. It's a heavy bastard. Here's a composite pic that shows all the targets out there: In this one, it's only the 100 and 830.

Here's my pic of the day - on my buddy's 300 Win Mag, Rem 700 model 85508. APA Fat Bastard brake on there, this thing shoots soft.
-
I knew what you were talking about.
-
It's 80 here right now, brother - going out in the morning and stretching that Grendel and Win Mag out to 800. Ultimate scope-dope check on the Grendel, and run that Nikon on the Win Mag some. Of course, I will grab some pics for ya.
-
Yes, 100 will get it done. When you're building charge ladders to find a charge, it's more than enough to see the difference. 25-45 load workup here, you cen definitely see the differences at 100 yards on a 0.2 grain charge spread. Obviously, I went with the 23.1 grain charge on this rifle. It works wonderfully.

Good lookin' "Sack O' .45s" man! I like it!

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2

That's a pretty cool setup for just getting some parts together, brother! Well done! See how easy it is? What else you got laying around, I always have ideas...
