I don't care what you interpreted out of it, and I don't care what your attorney interpreted out of it - I care what the LAW in your state says "is the law." You're her asking for build advice, and I don't live in your state, and I don't live under your state's bullshiit laws. Not many here do. Yet, you need advice from us. I know for a fact that your state's law are more fucked up than California's gun laws - and that's hard to do. At least the members in California fight this, and have a pretty comprehensive flow-chart to deal with their BS gun laws - your state DOES NOT have that. My bottom line is this - you, basically, are on your own. You're alone, with all other New Yorkers. No one here will turn their back on you, but no one here can advise you on about... anything. If you wanna pin your mag, and think you're okay with threaded barrels - then you have at it. You're gambling on your own security here, and your own future. Might be true, however... - it doesn't look like they manufacture that pattern now. Might be a big hunt for that upper, if you want everything to run right. Another option, seriously, is to sell it now before you get too deep into it, and just pick up an Aero Precision M5 set and start with that. Call ASA first, man... they might have old stock laying around... EDIT - You might be thinking of Eagle Arms... EDIT 2 - a pic of your lower, that you have now, will help. I'm just sayin'...

You pretty much have it covered, then. The only major, major differences between the two, as far as tools go, are whatever rail or handguard you buy for the big one, the armorer's wrench for the AR-15 probably isn't gonna fit the new barrel nut. Most higher quality handguard kits come with the appropriate barrel nut adapter or wrench, though. The muzzle device slot in the armorer's wrench won't fit the flats on a .30-cal muzzle device. Everything else shouldn't be an issue. You're in New York, right? Check into that batch of stupid new laws your awesome representatives voted in. Don't build something that's gonna get you turned into a Felon.

If I were buiding that rifle right now, I would use one of these barrels, and wouldn't be considering anything else but one of these 3... Over the herd of gear that I have, I have barrels from all 3 manufacturers, and they're all great barrels.

Check that mag close - it's a injection molded plastic piece - make sure that mag stop in it is right, it might not be... These pistol-caliber Oly mags don't have over-insertion tabs on them, so that's not uncommon.

That mag is over-inserted, brother - yank that fucker outta there. Vise it, like we talked about. The back of the mag is jamming up that BHO, and screwing you. You should never see feedlips on the mag sticking up into the ejection port opening. Vise. Gorilla. Yank. Scream. Yank harder. BAM! It's out. You know this drill - go Full-On Caveman on that motherfucker.

That opens up a whole new can of worms, on this platform. Find out if your 80% lower manufacturer makes their own upper. If they don't, call them on the phone and verbally ask them which upper they recommend to run on their lower...

Looking at ASA's current website - you're gonna have to call them. The only thing they're showing right now is for LR308-compatible upper stuff. That's an issue. They don't even show the lower. The only .308AR they mention is a complete rifle. ASA = 480-367-9545

Get the matching upper receiver for it from ASA. Save yourself the headaches of trying to match a different manufacturer's upper to it. Best advice I can give you, right now. After that, we work on the rest of it.

Bring it, brother - we'll put it in something, and shot the piss out of it. And get your confidence back in it. It's a damn great trigger.

Welcome aboard - this place is FULL of the very information you are asking about. The best thing you can do is start a tech or build thread in the appropriate section, and ask questions. The information will flow, links will be posted, etc. There's a TON of great parts you can use on DPMS-based .308ARs.

Silly people... The Morning Wood Shoot just happens every morning at camp. I wake up, grab whatever firearm is nearest, as well as pick a tricky target that's out there, and just fire one round. I usually hit the target. It's probably pure luck... but you don't let anyone know that. You act like you MEANT that shiit... This act just makes Matt Cross crazy... Matt then picks up one of his similar firearms, and commences to getting after that same target, in the same manner. I just pull the trigger, drop the mic, and walk away... Everything else is up to Matty... That is The Morning Wood Shoot... So far, the two that I've pulled off are the 65-yard pistol shot on steel, one hand, off hand. BANG! TING! ...walk away... The other one was the 700 AAC SD rifle, 435-yard target, standing off hand, slinged up... BANG!......ting!~... ...walk away... That last one earned the comment from Matty - "Oh HELL NO! That is NOT going unanswered!..."
