I just blast that with brake cleaner - stick the straw in the receiver-end of the tube and give it the business. Blow it out with compressed air.

I have never had one detach itself. Never. No matter what brand. Those things are about all I use anymore, that way, any sling can go on any rifle, without specialized hardware.

I don't think the weight is gonna matter, if it won't shoot, brother. You'll be better moving up to the next heavier barrel that DOES shoot.

Standard threads, when looking from the extension end out towards the end of the barrel. No weird reverse-thread stuff going on. It was probably never on there at 175 to begin with, brother. Just line it back up with whatever torque it takes to do it, but Rocksett the shiit out of that extension.

That barrel extension gets torqued on the barrel at 175lb/ft. Not gonna be an around-the-house repair for it, and headspace needs to be checked after it's torqued back on there tight. It might line back up, it might not. Some people think that the index pin holds the extension on the barrel, but that's not the case. The index pin doesn't go into the threaded portion of the barrel, at all - only into the extension part. When it all gets torqued back together, the fixed position of the index pin has to line up (centerline) with the barrel's gas port - if not, there's no fixing it. That's if headspace isn't way off.

The easy answer is this - that Mega stripped upper gets you running now, until your permanent solution. Once you finally complete that rifle, you have a sweet stripped upper to match a very nice billet lower, and start another large-frame build.

Found this on the "tuning" of the brake - excellent job describing it all.

I was wondering how they mathed this one out. 13.5" barrel, pinned and welded brake, meets the 16" requirement. Well, I certainly know now - the brake is HUGE! OAL on the brake is 3.438", and max internal threaded depth is 0.850". Even if the 13.5" barrel has a threaded end that's 0.850" long, the brake will still add 2.588" to the barrel length, when permanently attached. That's a 16.088" overall length. The brake came with 6 drill-able inserts, and timing shims to set it up. Very nice. Barrel gets here Tuesday. This will escalate quickly.
