Barnes bullets are solid coppers. Copper weighs less than lead, in composite bullets. I'll get straight to the point. Barnes 70 TSX, in 5.56. That turned into a SOF round, the "Optimized Brown TIp" round, that was deadlier than the Mk262 load, a 77 MatchKing OTM projectile. If you compare the length of the Barnes 70TSX to the length of the 77 SMK OTM - the Barnes bullet is lighter - but longer - then the 77 SMK. Solid copper. 98% weight retention, in the TSX, which means it expands, doesn't break apart and fragment all over. Maintains it's weight, and drives through. Believe, or not believe. Maybe that was what Spomer was talking about - quote what he said, or the article he said it in. I posted this picture here on this board on 25 Aug 2017, just to get the point across... Long story short - Aero was great. Best in the business, especially for builders. Best parts out there, bar none. They bought into an agreement with Ballistic Advantage (great barrel manufacturer) and into VG6 (great muzzle devices). They over-extended themselves, doing that. In financial trouble, after that, in walks White Wolf Capital Management. Financial Rescue. Of sorts. THOSE motherfuckers, White Wolf Capital Management, are the ones that fucked it all up. Aero is reeling, BA is feeling pain, VG6 almost disappears... and we're in a shiit-world, as builders. Somewhere along that timeline, Aero takes on all the large-frame STAG Arms profiles. Made to STAG's specs, small departure from the Aero M5 platform, but they do it. I have 3 of those, and they are exceptional - just like all of the Aero M5 platform is. Badass receivers, rails, guns. Aero killed it, for STAG Arms. So, financial extensions, more extensions, lada lada lada - Aero is in trouble - because of (primarily) overextension of capital, to grow fast and dominate - and (secondarily) allowing a company to come in for financial rescue (White Wolf Capital Management) that has ZERO fukking clue about the firearms industry. WWCM was a shiitshow. Blew the company out. New capital management is in place, and desperately trying to rescue the entire company. Cliff Notes. My version. For what it's worth. If you're working up a Barnes 168 TSX load for an elk - then stick with it. BANG. Flop. Ask @Magwa about that. Forget that 150. Do the 168.

CCI 34s are the harneded military primers. Same process and mentality as the CCI 41s that are used to load military 5.56 ammo. I can say this - CCI 41s are about the equivalent of a magnum primer, and they do run hotter velocities than most any opther small rifle primer out there. The nearest match to a CCI 41 would be a CCI 450 small rifle magnum primer. Same deal with those 34s - CCI 200s are standard large rifle primers, the 250s are large rifle magnum primers, and those 34s are about on par with the 250s, just with a harder material, in order to prevent accidental firing from firing pin contact. So, with your brass already loaded with 34s, start your charge weight about 0.3 lower than what I'm running, work up to your best group that doesn't have pressure signs, and check your speeds. You'll outrun me, for certain. When I'm working on a brand new combination, I start a little low, and work those different charge weights up until I DO SEE pressure signs - ejector swipes, flattened primers, slightly cratered primers, etc. That tells me "too much..." I go back down to the next load that was most accurate, under the pressure load, and work from that charge weight. 0.1 up and down from it, find the best group, shorten seating depth 0.003" and see if it improves...

Of note - not just anybody can buy a rifle from the CMP - you have to be affiliated with the CMP, or through an identified program that the CMP recognizes. Food for thought...

Wasn't that bad this morning. 102* when I was going through this process, and I stayed only as long as necessary. Didn't check the temp when I was rolling out of there. I was gone by 0852 on the clock on the car. Got through the wash, made the turn, going down the road - realized I never grabbed by 25 pieces of brand new Lake City brass. Turned around, grabbed it off the ground, was out again at 0858. Important weather stats this morning: Temp = 102" // Pressure = 29.65 in/hg // Alt - 1425 AGL // Density Alt = 4650 // Humidity = 29.7%. That temp and that lower humidity messes with DA ALOT! MV over 25 shots, AVG 2605 fps, SD was 15.4. Don't really need to do a dope chart, because it's a BDC scope - won't be any dialing. Important thing was getting it zero'd 1/2" high at 100, so everything else in the reticle matches up further out. Got the offset irons zero'd for 36 yards. 25 rounds for both zero sessions - then GONE!

After we've suffered from bad definitions, bad descriptions, or just a general lack of understanding of the Large Frame AR platform, from the GenPop. The General Populace, in the prison we're in here. But questions... This is the level of the weeds we need to climb down into to determine a solution to a problem, over the internet. Just from words, and occasionally from pictures that are requested, then finally given. This thread is a goldmine, but it very distinctly describes why nomenclature matters, and why we routinely ask the questions that we do. There is an absolute goldmine of information on here about Large Frame ARs - just simply .308ARs, and why this site has this name. The details are everything, in trying to figure it all out - just from words on a screen. FWIW - this isn't directed AT you. This is just a chance in the conversation to reiterate this, for the future questions that come up, from new people at a later date - hopefully, they stumble upon this topic, read it, and absorb it. It's not a big deal - even though it is. We don't mind - but we have to wade through the comments that we have no control over, just to try to figure out what someone really has, or is really talking about. That's when the questions come out. The carry handle setup for a DPMS LR-308 is rare as hen's teeth, in a nutshell. Haven't seen one available for the better part of 10+ years. That's just the market. DPMS isn't a company anymore, and for the 5 years back-then when they were a company, they weren't producing these things because the demand wasn't there. If you find one, and it's a real DPMS LR-308 carry handle - it's gonna cost you bigly. Very bigly. I can give you the part number to search for, that IS what you're looking for, if you want to go down that frustration-rabbit-hole. Lemme know. In all honesty, you never, ever know if one will pop up. Stranger things have happened.
