Cali_Ed Posted December 8, 2014 Author Report Posted December 8, 2014 I'm starting to wonder if faxon removed to much material? With their 16 pencil weight weighing only 1.19lbs? How much a weight would be removed buy cutting it down to a 14.5? It's still the lights Barrel for the cheapest price.

It's still the lights Barrel for the cheapest price.Like I said before, they removed more material than other barrels between the chamber and gas block journal. It gets SUPER thin just before the gas block journal. You should lose about 1.5oz going from 16" to 14.5," but I wouldn't advise cutting down that barrel unless you use a step up bushing. Notice how the diameter near the muzzle is flared? If you cut it down you'll remove that and there won't be sufficient shoulder on the barrel to torque the muzzle device against. Thank you brother farkle.

survivalshop Posted December 8, 2014 Report Posted December 8, 2014 Talking about ounces & gram's , I don't think you will notice the difference . Now if your talking of pounds shaved off , that ,you will feel . The US Military stopped using the Pencil type barrels for a reason & it wasn't because they wanted to add weight to the rifle . ( GI's were bending them , in all kinds of ways ) I like short thick barrels's ( not Bench weight ) & I also like to have the ability to replace or remove to clean, the Muzzle device .

I guess ounces add up though? Wouldn't the muzzle device get cleaned while you are running patch through the barrel or a bore snake?
shibiwan Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 You're becoming what we MTB'ers call a weight weenie. Get a standard M4 profile barrel. Save some money, and get a little more workout everytime you carry said rifle. :D
Cali_Ed Posted December 9, 2014 Author Report Posted December 9, 2014 Lol I'm just trying to chLlange my self in how light I can go, shoot my 308 is 13 pounds lol
shibiwan Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 After the 308, the "M4" will be like carrying nothing. Aren't you building it up as a beater 5.56? Save money on the barrel, less headaches and after you smack someone with it and it'll still shoot straight reliably.
Cali_Ed Posted December 9, 2014 Author Report Posted December 9, 2014 Yeah its. Beater that's why I'm really considering that faxon barrel lol cheap I missed a deal on primaryarm for a 60 darra socom barrel from radical, I was like I'm going to sleep on it woke up sold out
shibiwan Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 I can get 5.56 barrels in that price range. PM me I'll hook your lowballing ass up if you want.
Cali_Ed Posted December 9, 2014 Author Report Posted December 9, 2014 (edited) Lmaooooooooooooooooo light weight too? Not made asia? Edited December 9, 2014 by Cali_Ed
Rsquared Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 I'll hook your lowballing ass up if you want. Now, you really didn't just say that to someone else did you? <lmao>
FaRKle! Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 Lol I'm just trying to chLlange my self in how light I can go,... Yeah its. Beater that's why I'm really considering that faxon barrel lol cheap...Talk about conflicting requirements...
Cali_Ed Posted December 9, 2014 Author Report Posted December 9, 2014 How is it conflicting? The faxon meets both the light requirements and the cheap. 150 dollars for the lightest barrel I could find 1.19lbs. Voodoo tactical had the next lightest at like 1.3 but hops up to like 250. ????????????????
shibiwan Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 (edited) It's a beater, so $70-80 for a cheapie M4 barrel that weighs about 1.7 lbs, and then take a dump in the restroom to lose some weight. Wanna splurge a little, go for a chrome lined barrel at $130-$140ish. Drop to a 14.5" barrel and lose another 4 oz or so, bringing the barrel weight to 1.5 lbs with a standard M4 profile that won't go flaacid on you. ....and no, I refuse to buy chinese crap. They've done enough crap to my other business with counterfeit products.... %@#^#$ copycat chinese motherf*ckers. BTW. Did I mention I despise the Chinese? I'm ethnic Chinese but no I'm not from f*cking China, that crappy shithole of a "commie" country. Edited December 9, 2014 by shibiwan
Cali_Ed Posted December 9, 2014 Author Report Posted December 9, 2014 I had a guy come into my my work look to see where the product was made and his reaction was "mother fucking China god dammit"

Cali_Ed Posted December 9, 2014 Author Report Posted December 9, 2014 Because light =/= cheap. And beaters are cheap by definition. Just because your barrel is cheap, doesn't mean the other lightweight parts will be...makes sense and that came to mind after I had made that post. That's why it's a challange I suppose
shibiwan Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 I had a guy come into my my work look to see where the product was made and his reaction was "mother fucking China god dammit" ....like them FOB (fresh off boat) Chinese grad students at the university walking around with white walmart sneakers with khakis and long sleeves in the AZ summer heat. They don't contribute anything to the class/program and always want to look at your notes because you're also Chinese and steal crap off your grad thesis for ideas. SPEAK ENGRISH GODAMMIT!!! Heh... just struck a nerve I guess. LOL
