How do I tell which DPMS LR 308 I have?

Do you have a source you can cite for this? And is it just a K anywhere in the serial? or a specific location?

Yeah, straight from DPMS.  My first DPMS stripped lower is a K serial number.  It's true.  Every stripped LR-308 lower they ever sold is a K.  If it doesn't have the K - it was a complete gun.

Go down to question #12 if you doubt what's being told to you - this is the actual DPMS website.

NOT SURE WHERE TO POST THIS!!!!!!           308ar forum newbie here, a coworker just bought a DPMS LR-308 bull( 24" bull barrel). It was technically used but never shot. It belonged to a prepper and was in storage for years('08-'09 era).So the salesman said. When i measured the rail it measures .150.  1). Is this a gen 1 or gen2?...  2). what year did gen 2 start?     3). Does he need to call dpms to find out? He was wanting to make a few changes such as a MLOK rail, adjustable gas block and a magpul stock.    !!!!any help will be greatly appreciated!!!! He is on a budget.     My thoughts, SLR adjustable block, and Magpul UBR stock. (The PRS magpul is an option) The rail will depend on the gen.   thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum.  You should start a new thread in the DPMS forum or the General Discussion forum.  Pictures may be requested to help with the answers.

Also, stop by the introduction forum and start a thread to tell us a little about yourself.

And have him shoot it and make sure it runs BEFORE you start changing parts.

thanks for the response ARMED EYE DOC and shooterex.  We did run it. At first he couldn't get it to load 1 round. he called me asking what he was doing wrong. I went over to check it out and i got mad. Both factory, metal magazines were bad. Tried magpul and run like a champ. Accuracy was impressive (imho) for a 308 ar. my first time trying one out. Now i want one.

Max - Force,

Besides the changing the  original trigger to a drop in one,  About the only other thing I needed to change with my factory built Gen I DPMS  LR308 Oracle was that I added a cheap Bushnell Ar308 BDC scope I got on sale, it came without sights. The only thing I did (still has the original hand guard) is add a front sling mount, for a sling and or a bi-pod.  I did order a rubber butt pad for the stock from Amazon.  I also got a G. David Tubb flat recoil/buffer spring but it is still in the package, the original works okay.  Later I ordered a Magpul Mag, after I  got the original DPMS mag working with a little tweaking for the 145 grain FMJ.

The only bad reports you usually here on here and other AR forums is because the AR Rifles that work out of the box never get reported, there must be hundreds of thousands that work from the start.  Also you do have to break them in correctly, just follow the owners manual, many don't ever read the manual or lube them up and do a proper break in process. I doubt that those freaks that use an AR for mass killings ever even had a FTF or whatever.

^^^^ There is no such thing.

I think we'll need a little more detail on your rifle to even try and help.

Exactly what he said.  ^^^  Right up there.

Plus pics.  We need PICS of your gun, as many details as you think you can describe.  After that, we'll need even more details.

You better Brace yourself...  Tightly, too.
