Try these guys. Not "clamshells" but the next step up IMO.

www.plastixrevolution.net

If the link doesn't work, google plastixrevolution

I have their vice blocks for the .308 and the barrel blocks.

I think I prefer aluminum for barrel blocks but these are ok, I won't replace them anytime soon.

I've got a set of those, but I am concerned about the upper slipping out when removing/installing a barrel nut. Or a flash hide.

Barrel nut isn't a problem, but I would use barrel blocks for the flash hider.  Just take off your gas tube if you don't have space for the blocks.

I think I paid $9 shipped off ebay from that company.

My buddy works on 3D printers. I asked him about making a clam shell for me. His company sort of frowns on working on weapons.

Lots of people converted to using "Action Bars".

The thing is , the Barrel Vice Blocks were first used in the TM for Barrel install & removal , then they were tweaking Upper Receivers using them & changed it to the Clam Shell or Receiver Block , so whats the difference between using a Barrel Vice Block set & this "Action Bar "?

Answer ---- Nothing , you can still Tweak an Upper Receiver .   Don't say it can't be done !    Just think for a moment on what you are tightening & into what .
