mudnutz Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 So I picked up one of these Upper recievers for my current build, I'm Kindve on a pioneering run and all has been going smooth until I came across a hiccup with the rail height on the reciever. Any info on a handguard/rail system that would be flush with this high rise monster?
EasyEJL Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 I wonder if that's the same as the dpms "target" height. its the "other" dpms height that you barely see anything in. Does fulton have their own rails for it?
bubbasks Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 Its a pita. I have a TRX rail on mine and its a c*nt hair off. All others i looked at were way too tall or way too short. Trx is like a mm or 2 short of receiver rail
mudnutz Posted May 8, 2015 Author Report Posted May 8, 2015 Looked everywhere on fulton and closest they had was a high profile first gen from odin works. Still too short for their system. At this point I'm looking for something "do-able".
blue109 Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 That is the old dpms target height Rcvr. Only rail that will line up with it is the dpms factory quad rail, and its a heavy pig.
mudnutz Posted May 8, 2015 Author Report Posted May 8, 2015 Weight isn't really an issue at this point. Haven't really browsed much but an idea I had was maybe a handguard with a detachable top rail(keymod, etc.) And buy a riser that would fit flush? Unless you guysrecommend a website that has the first gen dpms rails in stock
guruofhotrod Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 I noticed that ARES has some of these for sale (Cheap!) You could call them and ask if they have or know of a handguard that will line up? I've always avoided that model for obvious reasons http://aresarmor.com/store/Item/Upper_Slickside_AR10_Rail
blue109 Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 Ive seen them on midwayusa.com and direct from dpms. They dont look too bad.
mudnutz Posted May 9, 2015 Author Report Posted May 9, 2015 Tried calling DPMS yesterday 30min before closing with no answer(surprise). Contacted through email and will see what they pull out of their butts on monday. Apexhandguards? Seems like they're pretty high speed with knowing their dinosaur .308 recievers. anyone ever heard/purchased these before? quality worth the price?
planeflyer21 Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 Plenty of info here on the Apex handguards.
blue109 Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 Apex handguards are really nice, but as far as i know, nobody makes a spacer for that height for any rail system. MAYBE THAT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA FOR ANY RESIDENT MACINIST FFL DEALER WHO OCCASSIONALLY POSTS ON HERE....COUGHSHIBI...
Robocop1051 Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 I'd go with a straight tube, and no top rail... are you using sights? Are you using night vision or thermal imaging? There's really no reason for the forward top rail other than those three. A slim tube from Apex or Lancer and a few short rails to mount misc items as needed. Even if you did want to use a front sight, you could just as easily get a VLTOR or PRI flip-up tower sight gas block instead of a mounted BUIS.
shibiwan Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 Those FA uppers look like milled out DPMS "target" uppers.
blue109 Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 Would seem shibi only reads the first post before responding.:D
mudnutz Posted May 9, 2015 Author Report Posted May 9, 2015 The thought has crossed my mind but, if I was going for the hunting rifle look with a tube I would've just bought a completed rifle. No fun burning cash if it doesn't look pretty. By the way checked out ares armor and that would fit the look, going to do some research and see if I can dig up something a tad bit longer. Appreciate the help guys

98Z5V Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Call Fulton Armory. Ask for Clint. Want for him to come to the phone. Ask Clint any questions you have about this part that you bought from him.
