Local guy does some not so scientific but entertaining tests. Worth a browse through his channel. Has a series on 308vs5.56.

It's widely known that M193 will penetrate most Level III steel armor when fired from a long enough barrel due to its higher velocity. Winchester 45 gr varmint JHP can generate even more velocity, about 3,500 fps from a 20" barrel, but it obviously has much lighter construction. So here's the question: Will that tiny little bullet still have enough mass to get through? If so, which barrel length will do it? Multiple poll choices are allowed so cast your vote for the barrel length or lengths that you think have enough oomph to get through. You know the drill, place your bets.

He posted a follow up where he puts a piece of ceramic tile in front of the armor and it doesn't punch through. Not sure what use that is other than to show it doesn't take too much to slow it down? Hey shep, might want to duct tape some flooring to your plate carrier just to be safe :D

Interesting , There must be a threshold for Velocity , where that size & make up of Projectile ,would penetrate that plate , range will definitely have an effect . I guess you find that penetration Velocity , you will come up with, range per bbl. length , to penetrate that plate .

I think those 308 hits would leave a mark .?
