blue109 Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 Built an AR for another friend last weekend. I've been through about 1k rounds of wolf gold 223 with no issue so when he asked me about it I had no trouble recommending it for plinking ammo. He called me from the range with all sorts of feed problems. Wouldn't get through more than 5 rounds. Finally had the elusive round ABOVE the carrier jam and called it a day. Looking at his ammo and there is something very wrong with it. The bullet looked larger than anything I put it next to, including green tip, 75gr tap,and 77gr otm. Some of the cases even looked slightly larger, like they were swollen. Factory sealed boxes of wolf gold 55gr from ammunition depot.Everything in the gun looked ok, so he went back out with some federal 55gr and the gun ran like butter. Ammunition depot is swapping His remaining ammo out for some PMC so good customer service on them.
shepp Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 That's insane looks like a totally different caliber
MikedaddyH Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 You have to pull the projectile out and measure it !Weight , diameter and length.
blue109 Posted January 19, 2016 Author Report Posted January 19, 2016 I told him to save me one or two.
survivalshop Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) You have to pull the projectile out and measure it !Weight , diameter and length.Yup . Weigh it also & the Powder Charge & weigh empty the case & take some measurements also (With or with out the Primer ) , I think that should do it , for those with a need to know .? NTXshooter Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 I know its a long shot but the round on the right might be a Sharps 25-45. If you watch the video, they look almost identical.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JJNPJiRBlU
MikedaddyH Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 Oh No !!!!!! Another AR15 caliber to buy ! Whhhhhhhhhyyyyyy !!!!!
washguy Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 (edited) Sharps is rather late to the party ? on the other hand....the more the merrier ? beats me Wash Edited January 23, 2016 by washguy
NTXshooter Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 87 gn bullet at 3,000 fps/1739 lb-ft definitely has more punch than 5.56. It's even be a little better than 6.8 SPC. And only requires a barrel swap to switch from 5.56.
MikedaddyH Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 Redding 2 die set $74.99 from Sharps site.Picture would not load.

mineralman55 Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Just out of curiosity, does the suspect round drop into a 5.56/.223 case gauge? I spot check everything I shoot into a case gauge, even commercial rounds.
blue109 Posted January 25, 2016 Author Report Posted January 25, 2016 I don't have a case thingy ma'bobber. He's been out of town but he saved me a few of them to check out. I think Mike volunteered to do the measurements :)
