308lrnewb
Hmm, sounding more and more like heavy buffer with non-adjusting gas block. Use the PRS thick recoil pad on MOE rifle stock and quit my sniveling then. Less 'adjusting' parts may be better for my desired goals. Plus, will help even out the weight distribution on this rifle build. An adjustable would be nice, but for the same price a heavy buffer can be had. Thinking it will allow a more broad range of rounds to function.. Anyone ever having issues with that Syrac adjustable gas block 'recoiling' out of adjustment; A bunch of rattle and recoil making it click to a different setting? I am guessing that unless someone runs at the ragged edge of gas, just one click more/less may not be that noticed. *shrug* It would seem redundant to go heavy buffer and adjusting block unless I just hated money and had to have no doubt the softest feel possible. Funny, how perspective changes with a deeper evaluation huh...
jtallen83
I like the way SLR designed their adjustable block, simpler and more durable parts. http://slrrifleworks.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=
Magwa
I thing I will say you already have a ton of good information from this unruly bunch, if you build it and it weighs 12 or 13 lbs you are going to find every excuse in the book to leave it in the closet, strive to keep every OZ off the end weight you can I got mine down to just under 9 lbs and I carry it every where hunting have killed 4 elk numerous deer and am now 100% satisfied with it as a run and gun ,hunt, whatever weapon... mrmackc
This has already caused me to pick up the 4MOA .223 mini 14 or the 100 yd model 94 lever action than the 308 or the 3006 if there is much walking involved. One rifle I love to carry and hunt with is my .50 cal. Percussion muzzleloader mountain rifle I built in 1975 for whitetail muzzleloader season. One shot .49 round lead ball pushed with 100grains of black powder and deadly to 100 yards. No glass sight. It wakes up the critters!. EngrBob
While my Ruger American 30.06 is only about 8 lbs. with the Vortex Viper PST scope I am working on a 6.5 Grendel using a polymer lower. I don't have a scope mounted yet so I haven't weighed it, but it appears as if it will be lighter than the Ruger, even with the 18" HBAR barrel. It will definitely be lighter than the AR308 at around 10 lbs,, but it really isn't too heavy to carry around for a day. The lease has some very rugged areas so I wanted something just a bit lighter. For setting up at a distance I also have built a 6.5 Creedmore on a 308 set with a 20" barrel so I will have quite a variety this fall. Building your own gives you many options. planeflyer21
My buddy just got an ancient Winchester M100 in .308 Winchester, 4-round magazine, semi-auto. WAY lighter than any .308 I've ever had and it shoots soft too, unlike the Remmy 7400 I had for a short time.

mrmackc
I was think about a nice boneless1" rib-eye broiled MR and vacuum sealed and stuffed into a padded grill mate glove held in place with duct tape on your Tee shirt, much more masculine don't you think?....And then you could have a nice snack driving back from the range. Don't forget to leave a brewshi in the cooler. Actually I keep a couple of wife's hot pot holders and some duct tape in the range bag. I learned to do that from an old dove hunting farmer, who always hunts dove in a Tee shirt and overalls. 308lrnewb
I guess it is time to change my tam-poon... Sorry guys, it was just that time of the month you see. Going to run a non-adjustable low-pro gas block with the xh 10oz heavy buffer. Going to throw the JP high pressure bolt carrier in. My build slot has really changed. Falkor 308 ambi receivers w/ 16" tranny handguard criterion hybrid contour 18" rifle gas nitride SS barrel tacops charge handle mecharmor back up sights MOE rifle stock trijicon vcog optic Should do the ticket. Agile enough to swing around reasonably with a high velocity for 800 yards hit/miss placement. Thank you everyone! oh yea... I much prefer the broiled steak over a padded brassiere, simply because - that extra thick material may retain sweat and cause rashes. The steak however is a nice protein boost during an all day run/gun affair.
