308lrnewb
What magazine do you prefer? I have been looking around. Lancer, Magpul.. some options are out there. In my searches I found this company: http://www.ammosc.com/308-sr-25/ Please, post which magazine your prefer and why. Loadings will be at longer lengths. I know both lancer and magpul offer magazines capable of ~2.83" COAL. The linked SS magazines are ~2.86" COAL friendly. All inputs are desired. Wanting to know which mags work the best and what are junk. I have been informed that the plastic magazines fear hollowpoints, if anyone can post their experience with that... please do! Quentin
My ArmaLite came with a PMAG and I bought more. They work, they're cheap. I'm happy. Lancers look great and I have five for my AR-15 that work great but their 308 mags are pricey. I'll stick with PMAGs. ArmaLite tested them extensively with their AR-10A and recommend them over other brands so I haven't experimented with others. I haven't tried hollowpoints so far... 98Z5V
Lancers. They are superior. PMAGs don't suck, are good, and hollowpoints (OTMs) have nothing to do with it. Lancers are just better magazines. Post what you've heard about "plastic mags fearing hollowpoints." Please be more specific, on that topic. EDIT - OP, check this thread: Edited August 26, 2016 by 98Z5V

jtallen83
I listed comparison COL measurements for the Lancer, the Pmag, and the M118 Pmag. The lancer will handle the longest COL by a good bit. That said my favorite magazine is the GenII Armalite B-mags, built like a tank and oh so smooth
survivalshop
As far as the plastics go , I like Pmags & have no issues with them , but Lancer's are on the top of my mag list there . Metal , the original C-Product Mags are top notch, actually made of Stainless Steel & believe it or not , DPMS mags , I have no issues with them . Thing about 308AR mag's is , sooner or later you will find a rifle or Lower Receiver that will not like one or another , as most know here , my early CMMG Lower Receiver didn't like the first Gen. LR Pmags , but worked fine with any Steel & the Gen 3 Mags . Magpul made changes to the Gen.3 & that made a difference . By the way , who is this 98 guy ? 308lrnewb
I have heard from multiple sources that hollowpoints under high recoiling rounds will dimple and chew the interior wall of the plastic magazines. which, is why certain(not magpul) plastic magazine manufacturers will line them with steel inserts. I was originally leaning towards the newest lancer magazines but... for $50/per I can afford two steel magazines that are rated to handle cartridges at the same length. I am sure the 'weight reduction' can be nice, however - I only anticipate that the 25round lancer magazine will weigh more than the twenty round steel magazine upon full capacity. Are five extra rounds worth double the cost? =\ I am hard on things too.. Appreciate everyone's responses! So, any experience with the ammo storage components company? They came recommended for an ar308 build using the 284 cartridge. I just happened to be standing around when some guys where chatting about it. Looked into that company and seem intrigued enough now. COBrien
I've always run PMags (Gen III) in my LR308. Since I don't (yet) reload or handload, they've run fine for me with any off-the-shelf ammo. I am intrigued by Lancers, and will probably end up picking up a couple of them, once I "buy and try" this scope I brought up last week that no one's worked with... I also just looked up ASC Co., and their mags are interesting. http://www.ammosc.com/308-sr-25/

Cowtown
The Lancer L7AWM is full-on badass, the L5 has a video up on UTube where the guy throws it around and runs over it and it keeps going, and the L7 is built even more tough. I have both L7 and L5 varieties and will vouch they are good to go. I have not measured COAL they will accept, but mine are longer capacity than the M118 PMags I have. I like the stainless steel that Lancer adds to the polymer magazine standard. Also they fit well in my Seekins SP10 that has a tight well, the M118 PMags do not drop free. Pricey yes, but I got what I paid for.... Lancer for me. I haven't handled the ASC though, might have to get a couple for a trial run. Never too many mags, right? 308lrnewb
my thoughts. I was thinking for the price, i could pick up a few ASC magazines and see how the mega likes them. If the various ar308 sr25 pattern rifles like them, pick up a surplus. I really like the basis of those lancer magazines. Wanted them badly too. Just, I am getting to be more frugal. That is a bit of difference in quantity.. which follows the logic posted above: 'never too many mags'
