I can just take my meat down to shepp and have him cook it for me! I've got a good jerky recipe if you get one. 7 hours ago, jtallen83 said: In today's commercial pork supply Trichinosis is a very rare to non existent thing. It finds it's way into pork when they root through the soil, todays pigs never set foot on dirt their entire life cycle. The barns they live in are regularly cleaned and disinfected, most commercial barnes have protocols in place that resemble the clean rooms you see with computer manufacturers. A 1 1/2 inch thick Iowa chop done to a pink medium rare is a tasty, juicy, and safe thing to eat. Very true!

The pigs ate the evidence of a serial killer. Nothing left but bones. NOT an urban legend a sad fact ! RCMP busted those sick bastards in the 80's !

Back in the day before the confinement system became popular it was not uncommon for farmers to be eaten by their hogs accidentally. They are opportunistic feeders by nature, whatever they can get ahold of they eat. Got a good scar on my leg from a sow having a taste when I was a kid, Grandpa shot her and we ate her up

He had a sow who birthed some piglets out in the pasture area. He went out to get them with his quad and a trailer, somthing happened with the quad and momma wasn't happy, she tore him off the quad and damn near killed him. She ended up taking a leave I remember her being gone 4-5 months. Another crazy think about pigs pigs is a domestic pig will "go Farrell" in a matter of months with their tusks and snout extending and hair growing out when released into the wild
ARTrooper Posted November 9, 2016 Report Posted November 9, 2016 do you make your jerky nice and soft? when my wife makes the jerky it often times comes out hard as a rock or like eating leather. lol
MikedaddyH Posted November 9, 2016 Author Report Posted November 9, 2016 Back in the day... A couple of farmers I knew would fill their cows and pigs up with water via a hose down the throat just before they sold them at auction... Sold by the pound ! Pretty F...ed up $hit !

ARTrooper Posted November 9, 2016 Report Posted November 9, 2016 I like soft and juicy, don't mind a little bit of a chew, but mine usually comes out hard.

ARTrooper Posted November 9, 2016 Report Posted November 9, 2016 strips, only the scraps and difficult stuff do I grind, and then I just use that for venison burgers.

Well, Mikedaddyo, I worked several livestock auctions and I thought "giving the animals a nice drink" was an act of careing and kindness. LOL! We would salt down their last meal and they would tank up at the water trough. We didn't have running water hoses.
