98Z5V
Why Sectional Density is so important... (wait for the "Part 2"...) http://abesguncave.com/sectional-density-all-important-and-almost-ignored/ ...and... "Why the .308 Sucks"... Seriously, this is good info. We need to shoot heavier .308 bullets. I've been doing it for awhile now, and I'll go even heavier, now... http://abesguncave.com/why-the-308-sucks-and-the-military-knew-it/

Matt.Cross
He's preaching to the choir here, I haven't shot anything lighter than 165 grain in a .308 in over a decade now, typically 175s.

We're going bigger than that, brother - my 178s will be the bare minimum. 195s, 208s, and 220s coming up. These bitches: 195 BTHP Match, sectional density 0.294 with a .550 G1 BC: https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifle/30-cal-308-195-gr-bthp#!/ 195 ELD Match, sectional density 0.294 with a .584 G1 BC: https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifle/30-cal-308-195-gr-bthp#!/ 208 ELD Match, sectional density 0.313 with a .690 G1 BC!!!: https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifle/30-cal-308-208-gr-eld-match#!/ 220 ELD-X, sectional density 0.331 with a .650 G1 BC: https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifle/30-cal-308-208-gr-eld-match#!/ I know I can load .308 Win with that 220 above, but I don't know if I can get this 225 in a .308 case - but I can get it in the Win Mag case! 225 ELD Match, sectional density 0.339 with a .777 G1 BC!!! Holy shiit!!! https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifle/30-cal-.308-225-gr-eld-match#!/
Matt.Cross
I gotta stick with what will feed out of a PMAG, and I don't expect that anyone will stick around to complain that I should shoot a ballistically superior round at them. Other than you dorks of course....
unforgiven
What would be the heaviest that would work in a Pmag ?

If you're handloading I believe you can backset up to 200gr enough to fit the mag.
jtallen83
I know the new FGMM 185gr Bergers will fit. 2 hours ago, unforgiven said: What would be the heaviest that would work in a Pmag ?
survivalshop
I have settled on 155gr.,308 Bullets , I will probably never shoot 800 yards ( but would love to ) & if I need Heavies , I have them tested & loaded already . The 155's work very well in both my 308AR's , sub MOA & in CQB , less recoil for better follow up shots . Not a thing wrong with the 308/7.62x51, its a great cartridge for Combat , and proven ! The Arthur can dislike the 308 all he wants , its his right to do so .

For Hornady 30-cal projos, you can load everything up to 208gr to 2.800", which should work in a PMag. You CANNOT load the 212gr ELD-X to that, it gets a COL of 3.000". Oddly, you CAN load the 220gr ELD-X to 2.800". I'm loading some of those long, skinny bitches up and testing them out at distance.
Sisco
I have some Hornady 208 gr ELD’s, think I will give them a try next spring. As my press is in the garage and it’s gonna hit -14 on Monday and Tuesday, might be a while. Those ELD’s also make a very accurate 300 Blk round.
