I was at the range today with my buddy and his youngest daughter (14 year old). She has been doing well in school, so her dad said she could throw some lead down range. She did ok for not shooting for 6 months or more. She worked through a few boxes on the H&R 22LR using the aperture sights.

There was a guy next to us with a national match ar-15. I seldom see the traditional style stock, so I asked him about it as we were heading out. He talked about it a little, and let me shoulder it. I have to go in for a hernia check. The ar-15 weighed 17 lbs. Yes, SEVENTEEN! I didn't have a spotting scope going, but I bet he was well under 1 moa.

Hahaha. I haven't weighed it, but wouldn't be surprised if my AR10 isn't approaching that weight. As I was building it I quickly realized that it would only go from the safe, to the trunk, to the range, and back again.

I don't understand how anyone can get a rifle to weigh that much in an AR platform. m249 saw is 16.41 pounds and that is a belt fed machine gun made with a lot of steel.

"17 pounds? My preban Match HBAR isn’t 9 unloaded! "

Curiosity got the best of me, weighed mine today, it's a Rock River Match upper, Wylde chamber, no sling or magazine, just under 9 lbs.......Cliff

I'm often told that my main hunting/all-time favorite/jewel of my collection rifle is "too heavy" and a "big girl" (it's an AR-10 w/a fancy scope).  I point out that when properly adjusted my single-point Magpul sling does alot of the lifting for me such that I'm able to not only swing it to my shoulder quickly but also carry it all day every day through a fulI deer season w/out any problems.  This hunting entails walking several miles through the sticks and swamps every day.   I also suggest that if a rifle seems to be too heavy:

You guys made me curious. Based on the weigh myself, then weigh myself holding the big gurl method, I came up with 15.6#. 20" Bull Barrell, Diamondhead muzzle break, and Magpul stock account for the majority of that I'd guess.

Guns 'N Roses?

could have put weights in

Unforgiven is right on the target. The guy put lead in the stock for ballance (and ballast). It probably doesn't even recoil when firing .223/5.56.

Also Bk.Rd.Rnr, that is a great looking rifle, and the table is a beaut! Ever think of making a couple stocks out of that table?

nice looking gun. I guess you do have a lot of heavy parts. still I find that crazy.

Thank you. Built for comfort, not speed, as they say... Or something like that. ?

Thanks. Bk.Rd.Wife is not on board with that suggestion. Besides, veneer probably wouldn't be the best material for that..

Oh, right... Should have guessed that... Good call - I didn't realize it was veneer.
