carverelli
My last build I used a vg6 Gamma brake 300 blackout for my 6.5 CM and the diffuser cage. With my latest build probably 3 lbs lighter, a decent brake it most a must. The cage softens the precussion somewhat but it only fits 5.56 and .308. Its oversized for the 6.5 and e en moreso for the 6cm. I might just end just putting on one of their 6.5 brakes
Cliff R
Not directly related to what you are doing but my nephew added some sort of "high end" muzzle brake to his 308-AR. It does a nice job of taming things down and easier on the shooter but that thing is freaking LOUD! It's so obnoxious I walk away when he's firing it at our range because even with good hearing protection in place it's like someone walked up behind you and slapped you in both ears at the same time! I can't imagine being on top of a mountain in Colorado and dropping the hammer on a big Elk and getting my ear drums caved in at the same time!........Cliff

A brake is nice for shooting with earmuffs but deafening when shooting/hunting dogs. I need one U can use a cover on when not needed
COBrien
Is your muzzle going to be threaded 5/8-24? Many suppressor-mount brakes have a "blast shield" or something similar available. For instance... https://www.griffinarmament.com/taper-mount-paladin-2-port-brake-1/ https://www.griffinarmament.com/taper-mount-blast-shield/ Or... https://www.griffinarmament.com/30sd-suppressor-mounts/ https://www.griffinarmament.com/qd-blast-shield-gen-2/ These are just a couple of examples, and only from one manufacturer. 392heminut
SD Tactical has really good prices on their muzzle brakes and covers, $45 for the brake (if you're counting ounces you can get it in titanium for another $8!); https://sdtacticalarms.com/-Muzzle-Brakes_p_65.html and $30 for the D size cover (+$20 for titanium); https://sdtacticalarms.com/SDTA-PIG-COVER_p_72.html
carverelli
are these brakes installer friendly? I've installed exactly 1 vg6 brake. they used a crush washer to allow the brake enough of another revolution to be straight.

Just crush washer information... If it's a quality crush washer, you can rotate it 540 degrees (1.5 full turns) after contact, and it won't split. That's what they're supposed to be designed to do. Shiitty crush washers won't make it that far before they split. Most muzzle devices don't need to go that far anyway. Just trivia...
Cliff R
Correct and good info. I installed the brake for my nephew on his 308 AR and no problem at all rotating it to the correct orientation and still plenty tight so it doesn't budge. My ears are still ringing from the first round he fired from it as I was standing about 3' to the right and just a tad back of the bench when he touched the round off. I literally thought someone walked up behind me and slapped both my ears as hard as they could with cupped hands and I was wearing my good muffs! He commented on how it tamed the recoil considerably. I told him that it's now a two-fer. You can kill the Elk and kill your hearing with the same round!....LOL.... A friend of mine has an M1A SOCOM and the brake on that is the same way --- you don't want to be anywhere around that thing except in the shooting position! I wear plugs and muffs and felt the same way as you, like someone whacked me in the head. Our club range benches are covered and I think that contributed to the blast coming right back down, but off to the sides it was unbearable, as well. Made me flinch for the rest of the day! Edit to add: The brake on the M1A SOCOM is remarkable, however, in terms of taming lift and recoil. 392heminut
That's the nature of brakes, the better it's working, the more side blast you get!☹️
Magwa
AAC brakeout..is a awesome brake and is not loud to the point of ear splitting and you can put a can on them i have one on every rifle I own.. https://www.opticsplanet.com/advanced-armament-corporation-muzzle-brake-flash-hider-brakeout-2-0-7-62mm-90t-t.html
jtallen83
AAC also makes a shield for the 51T muzzle devices. They are expensive but work good.
carverelli
I ended up purchasing a sd tactical brake. They recommended the Titan mini and i bought a pig cover along with it. From what i understand the pig cover directs the gas and sound out the front. We'll see how it works in a few weeks and I'll report back. I put most of the lower together last night after chasing springs and detents all over my kitchen. I just ordered the wrench and the upper vise block to mount the barrel to the upper.
