    Veterans Day

Remembrance Day for our northern border friends. And a solemn thank you to all our veterans, here in the USA and overseas.
  2. https://ruger.com/products/sfar/models.html Says nearly same size as a 5.56 msr. Capacity is listed as 20. Comes with one, 20-round Magpul PMAG® magazine and is compatible with SR25®/AR-10®-pattern .308 Win/7.62 NATO magazines.
  3. Not a huge chip fan, but I really like the ketchup chips! And my wife and her Canadian friends never hesitate to tell me how great Smarties are compared to the chalky tablets sold here in the States. My brother-in-law lived in Nanaimo and in Victoria for several years, so I never heard it said other than Na-Nye-Mo. But, after you mentioned it, I can see how many would stumble over the pronunciation.
  4. Good dog! CWD is beyond awful. My sister in law had a family friend pass from Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD), no treatment or cure. The power of a dog's nose is unbelievable. This is another recent testament to it... https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2022/06/03/study-dogs-better-detecting-covid-pcr-tests/7496344001/

  6. No better soundtrack for that one! Wow...
  7. David Bowie just left us too soon. Really looking forward to the movie this Sept. Bowie's set at Live Aid (1985) was epic. As was most of the concert.
  8. Yikes...I don't want to think how bad my mileage is! It's likely worse than my truck, ha! I've got a thirsty engine.
  9. Blue cat? I don't see any spots. Used to fish for channel cats like your set up.
  10. Self defense law typically requires the threat to be imminent. So, there may be a disagreement over what is imminent here. I know of an instance where someone leaves (obviating the imminent part, as they are no longer in immediate danger) and then returns with a weapon. Use of such weapon has been found not to be self defense in an example I know of. Not aware of an instance where someone returns to the former threat and it was held that self defense still applies, but that does not mean it has not happened. The law and reality are often two separate things. If the eventual shooter was pursued inside, I would say the threat remained imminent. Like your Glock 43x example, the threat remained imminent and if there was a reasonable fear of great bodily harm or death, then self defense would appear to apply. An imperfect situation that will be handled by an imperfect system. Note that in some jurisdictions, self defense only applies where there is no reasonable opportunity to withdraw. That is you have a duty to retreat if possible. (FYI, example I know of is where person argued with parking lot attendant, left to their vehicle and returned with gun, argued again with attendant, then when allegedly threatened, shot the attendant. Shooter is in jail and self-defense did not apply.)
  11. The shooter did not call LEO. And he came back looking for a fight, making the shooter the aggressor (based solely on the video). If you leave and come back with a firearm, can any observer think you have not escalated the situation and become the aggressor? It's 2 am here. Am only online cause its Thanksgiving and I'm post several barley pops, so yeah, who knows what I'm saying! Anyhoo, yes, I'm still of the opinion that the shooter should be in prison. He got exactly what he intended and was looking for, to kill some one. Now, had the teal shirt guy jumped on the shooter (before he left and came back with a gun) and the shooter shot the teal shirt guy, I'd think very differently. Please, this is based solely on the video.
  12. Exactly. There would have been day when someone could have punched someone in the mouth. And that would have been the end of it! Everyone loses here.
  13. 98 you are indeed one of the reasons I'm on this forum. An utter wealth of knowledge and one the the best m'fers on this forum. I'm betting there's a ton of semi lurkers like I am, and we look to you for more technical knowledge than anyone will find anywhere else. But, this kid should go to prison in my state, imo. He did not call law enforcement and came back looking for a fight, which he got and provoked. The shooter knew exactly what he was looking for.
  14. Self defense does not apply if you leave, return, and become the aggressor. Castle doctrine may also not apply as this occurred outside the home. Depends on state laws, of course.
  15. Saw their Powerslave and Somewhere in Time tours back in parts of my misspent youth. Two of their best albums, imo. This new one has me listening to those older two, including Piece of Mind. What a guitar onslaught!
  16. Very impressive stuff. More I look into it, the more amazing it seems. Here's a pic from the inter webs that provides some perspective...had no idea regarding the sheer size of that gun...
  17. The airshow also had A-10s doing simulated bomb runs, not posting pics as the crappy ones I have don't do it any justice.
  18. I've driven down M-32 many times. Have also seen the A-10s almost scrubbing the trees in the National and state forests up there many times while out hunting. There's a squadron based out of Selfridge, just north of Detroit. Here's links to some videos. https://www.mlive.com/news/2021/08/video-shows-military-thunderbolt-iis-historic-landing-on-michigan-highway-during-northern-strike.html https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2021/08/05/watch-a-10s-use-rural-michigan-highway-as-a-runway/ Also, here's a few (not so good phone) pics from the Air Show at Willow Run yesterday, a really hot and humid affair (and loud! glad I brought the earplugs). B-25 Mitchells: Willow Run's own B-17 on the runway and with P-51 escort: Air Force Thunderbirds F-16s: Even the (modern) Luftwaffe was there:
  19. Will have to keep an eye out at shows, I guess. Have heard the UTG ones can be hit or miss, so best to get a couple if you can find them. Thx.
  20. Hey GRA, Were you ever successful in tracking down the reticle illuminator for a Z24? There are few out there, but really pricey; e.g., https://www.gunbroker.com/item/905463174 Leapers UTG apparently made/imported copies for a time but seems to have dried up. Would be interested if you found a source or any advice/input in tracking one down. Thanks in advance.
  21. Love sunsets and always amazed at how fast they can go. Here's one from our trip last week to the Porcupine Mts. in Michigan's U.P. overlooking a calm Lake Superior. Managed to get my 11 year old to watch this one with me.
  22. Our family had a Coronet 440 back in the 70s, did not look anything like that beauty! Very nice.
