98Z5V Posted March 7, 2024 Report Posted March 7, 2024 The use of small-unit drones has been readily apparent in the Ukrain-Russia Fiasco. They're VERY effective. Great post, Rene.
KSdefender Posted March 15, 2024 Report Posted March 15, 2024 I agree that the US appears to be way behind the curve on small drone usage. I hope I'm wrong. I recently bought Don Shift's book "Poor Man's Air Force" which is an excellent look at small drone capabilities...and defense tactics. Definitely worth having on the shelf. I keep fighting the urge to get one of the smaller units that won't require FCC registration. I live in a fairly dense residential area, so I'd probably end up using it like a periscope that can go to 300+ feet. 🙂
Sisco Posted March 17, 2024 Report Posted March 17, 2024 There are any number of research projects going on right now to equip US military forces with drones. And a ton of papers presented to military journals on their impact in the Ukraine war as well as their role in a potential war with China. Think the author is making up the story for news selling sensationalism.

MtnMike Posted January 18, 2025 Report Posted January 18, 2025 All I know is that there has been a car size drone buzzing around our mountain neighborhood for over an hour now. It'd be a tough shot with a rifle on a moving target. But if I can catch it out a window with a swivel bipod ....

MtnMike Posted January 18, 2025 Report Posted January 18, 2025 Outside the reach of a shotgun. It didn't like being spotlighted and moved on. After a bit more thought, probably not a good idea to try to knock down something that big over a populated suburban neighborhood. We're still recovering from Hurricane Helene. I'd hate to be responsible for crashing something into someone's home or worse. Still have to wonder WTF it was doing. It's not like there is anything interesting going on around here that I know of.
KSdefender Posted January 18, 2025 Report Posted January 18, 2025 I'm sure there was an easily identifiable FAA registration number on that big boy, right? The feds have nothing but our best interests at heart
