talk me out of this upper...

Been working 60/70 hrs a week lately. Most has gone to grown up stuff but ive managed to squirrel away a little here and there and I think I have enough to build the rifle I want. Planned on using the rainier upper w/o fwd assist. Want an 18" gun and found the dpms mk12 barrels pretty cheap. Top it off with a 15" hand guard.  While lookin at parts I found this

I found it for 699 shipped. It is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I did some math and it looks like it would cost me more to build it than buy it. Opinions from the gurus?

blue, Stag makes a good rifle, and from what I've heard, that one's a great shooter.  I don't think you can go wrong with it.  The only other thing that I'd want on it, that it doesn't have, is a .223 Wylde chamber.  That 5.56 NATO chamber it's got will be fine, though.  At $699, I see no reason not to get it, brother.  <thumbsup>  That's a screamin' deal on that.

EDIT - Just re-read your thread title - I'm supposed to try to talk you out of this upper...    Sorry, man, can't do that...  <laughs> <lmao>

I think I suck at advice, brother - I really don't think there's a "voice of reason" setting on me, anywhere...  <laughs>

I'll help you get into a SWEET rifle, though!  <thumbsup> <lmao>

Man, since you've posted that, i've been thinking of grabbing one, and I don't even like buying an upper someone else built.  :cookoo: That's a damn nice upper...

Sidenote - if you snatch that thing, we need to get together, 'cause I wanna shoot it...  :happydrunks:

well...i snagged 2 gunfighter charging handles while they were on sale at primary arms. since i was paying shipping anyway i impulse bought a micro green dot. theres a slight issue with the windage knob blocking a little bit of the view but ill see if its an issue when i get the rifle out to the range.

The video on the page for the upper shows Jesse Tischauser who is on Team Stag.  He's a fellow Okie and is active on my "home" forum OKShooters.com.  I could put you in touch with him easy enough. I'm sure he could answer about anything concerning that upper.

It has arrived...2 Weeks early. I see Jesse on some of the big forums and he even pops into our local AZ one from time to time to preach the gospel. He seems to have become the face of stag.

Cool, so you have probably talked with him.  He's a great guy and will help anyone.  He's got a couple of his "race" Glocks for sale on our OSA forum now.  They were built by Accurate Iron (Mike Cyrus) out of Jones, OK.  Mike does some incredible 1911 work as well.  Looking forward to hearing about your upper!

Very nice Blue! That's the upper I plan on getting the wife for her gun, but left handed. I wanted to build her one, but Stag said they will not be selling stripped uppers until they build up inventory, and since they are mostly backordered that won't be for a long time.

Let us know how it shoots and what you send through it, very interested to see first hand results!

I'd be interested in hearing about how the red dot location worked for you on the RAMP mount. I just bought one and have not had a chance to try it, but it seems as though the  red dot sight is located a little bit off from where I'd like it to be in order to be able to just roll the gun without breaking cheek weld.
