Bigfish Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Hello, new to the AR platform gun here. I decided I would build one so I could learn everything about it. Starting out with a LR 308 DPMS lower and parts kit. Thinking about a palm swell grip and ambi safety. It will be a slow build as I obviously have a lot of reading to do. I am wanting a compact rifle/carbine style. Any suggestions on items that help with balance are appreciated. Bigfish
unforgiven Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Welcome from Indiana brother Bigfish.
Robocop1051 Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Balance is a funny topic. The problem with the gargantuan .308 rifle is the weight. You could build a lightweight rifle in the 8 lbs realm... or a balanced rifle in the 10-11 lbs realm. Fulton Armory makes the lightest contour barrel I've seen for the .308. If you really wanted to get tricky, try finding the elusive 13.7" bbl and topping it with a welded KX3. To balance the weight of the front end, check out the Magpul UBR and a heavy buffer. The UBR is a boat anchor in comparison to other stocks. Do yourself a favor. Don't skip out on the Battle Arms Development Ambi saftey switch. Also check out the Phase5 bolt assist lever.
Rsquared Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Any suggestions on items that help with balance are appreciated. The perfect balance = an empty wallet. <laughs> just sayin
Bigfish Posted November 25, 2013 Author Report Posted November 25, 2013 Thanks all From Texas. I am familiar with the empty wallet/wishlist syndrome as I own a boat. LOL!. Thanks Robocop1050 I will check out your suggestions. I have been around a nice RFB so I am familiar with the weight issue.
