98Z5V Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 I'd like to see a video demonstration of some Mobil 1 in a spray bottle. Seems to be to thick to "spray" from a bottle. Maybe not, though. Could you put up a short vid of that?

I would have you laughing so hard your eyes would be crying and you would have a headache !
htbde Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 LOL...I bought a chem hand sprayer (8 bucks) from Lowes. The oil spray is like any other liquid. Works great. As Dane said at break in dripping oil everywhere is the key. I did mine in the fine sand desert and it worked perfect.
Zebra644 Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 I have allways used the CLP for stainless and automatic fire arms and never had a issue.
Sisco Posted February 11, 2014 Author Report Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) Use TW25B like to make sure the BCG is well lubed when I use it. Sucker gets a high velocity work out in 1/10 of a second every time you pull the trigger. 600 + rounds no problem and no appreciable wear marks on Bolt, BCG or upper rails, or buffer assembly. Same goes for my HBAR 5.56. 3,000+ rounds. And still a tack driver. 5 rounds 100 yards by my son. Cold bore, notice the "creep?" Lubricate, lubricate, lubricate Edited February 11, 2014 by Siscowet

At the shop we mix ISO68 viscosity industrial oil (same thickness as SAE30) with WD40 in a 1:1 ratio and put it in a spray bottle (recommend the chemical proof ones from home depot) when we need to oil parts of the CNC machine. The mix sprays well and when the WD40 evaporates, it leaves behind a film of 30-wt oil. I think this idea could work well with thicker oil like Mobil 1 (0W40) or if you wanna go crazy try Castrol TWS Motorsport or Edge Sport 10W60. Edited February 12, 2014 by shibiwan

That's all cool and everything, with the 1:1 mix of WD thinning out the OIL. However, he sprays straight Mobil 1 from a "spray bottle." I need to know what spray bottle that is, so can test that bottle, with the Mobil 1, for myself. I gotta see this work - cause I think it won't. I'll even pick up the Mobil 1 5w20 - the thinner stuff. I just need to know what spray bottle this works out of. It's a viscosity thing.
Toolndie7 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) This thread definatley took a left so I dont mind being off topic but, When your breaking in a rifle sopping wet with oil isnt that bad for the case to be all slippery in the chamber when its fired? Or is it ok because the locking bolt holds it all back. I was always under the impression you should always keep your barrel clean and slightly oiled but your chamber clean and dry? I suppose thats what case trimmers and dies are for right. Edited February 12, 2014 by Toolndie7
FAAWrenchBender Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 You are correct,....you do not want/need a wet chamber. Keep in mind, if you "over lube" the bolt carrier group, the AR platform is "self cleaning" of the extra lube. You WILL be wearing that extra lube, shooting glasses are a good thing.
FAAWrenchBender Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Ok,.....back to the "AR10 likes/dislikes" I LOVE the magazines! The .308 variant PMags just feel cheap, not built like the Gen 1 or 2 Armalite mags.
htbde Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) As Dane has said and I concur running an ArmaLite wet for break in works. I will take a shot of the oil sprayer is I can and post it. I agree the chamber would not want to be "submerged". Edited February 12, 2014 by htbde

The .308 variant PMags just feel cheap, not built like the Gen 1 or 2 Armalite mags. Agree. "P Mags have a great rep, but 30 years of metal mags is a hard habit to break. Only consistent jams I ever had was with Israeli plastic mags in a AR 180. Switched to aluminum, problem was gone. Not to discredit them in AK's they work great, and P Mags passed the Iraqi and Afghanistan sandbox test. I just like a good metal mag, and Armalites are excellent.
shibiwan Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) I use this guy With straight 30-wt oil, it doesn't atomize well and shoots only in a stream. When you spray really hard, the stream does break up and gives a splotchy spray. With the 1:1 mix, it will make a good atomized spray or shoot a straight stream depending on how you adjust the nozzle. I've tried several different sprayers and got the same result. P.S. Sorry about the thread hijack. Now back to the topic on hand. :) Edited February 12, 2014 by shibiwan
Sisco Posted February 12, 2014 Author Report Posted February 12, 2014 Good info. I have a couple of those sprayers, may give it a try. Gotta be a No Wisconsin homeboy though, so I will try Amzoil synthetic oil instead.
Dane Armory Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Sorry about the sidetrack but that is what I do ! Castroil GTX is what I use but the spray bottles clog up pretty quick and become usless.
htbde Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Good stuff. Makes me LIKE my AR10 even more! Its like a Jeep...needs an oil pan in the safe
greenmist Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 Good info. I have a couple of those sprayers, may give it a try. Gotta be a No Wisconsin homeboy though, so I will try Amzoil synthetic oil instead. Bingo. My "secret" majic geuse I call it: Amsoil 75-140 synth. gear lube 1:1 with WD-40, in the empty WD-40 plastic spray bottles from F & Fleet. WD-40 acts as a carrier, disperses water, leaves the gear lube behind. It's what I used to lube chains on my race bikes, and now it's for everything. Put a Delrin O-ring on the bottom of bottle neck, under where you screw down the nozzle/sprayer, give a light shake before you spray to mix it up.
Sisco Posted February 13, 2014 Author Report Posted February 13, 2014 Roger thanks. Amsoil makes great stuff. Only oil I will put in my Vette.
greenmist Posted February 14, 2014 Report Posted February 14, 2014 Roger thanks. Amsoil makes great stuff. Only oil I will put in my Vette. LOL! Wife & I going to look at an '04 Z06 tomorrow....light em up!
Sisco Posted February 14, 2014 Author Report Posted February 14, 2014 LOL! Wife & I going to look at an '04 Z06 tomorrow....light em up! Nice! Mine is an 04 convertible. But thinking about an add on supercharger. Good luck you will love it!
Sisco Posted February 17, 2014 Author Report Posted February 17, 2014 I am starting to look for a free floating railed handguard for my AR 10 A4 rifle. I would like to hear recomendations based on actual use and experience from fellow AR10 users. I am not going to hang alot of stuff off the rails, except a bipod for sure, but might get night vision at a later date.
