I will pick one up , when they become available , just because I do HVAC/R work on the side some times. ( now that I'm retired & being forced to by friends & family ,the bastiges ). Looks like it works , just how good it will work on a scope , well it may not work at all . The price will probably vary , depending where its available.

I doubt the system will work on a scope. Just based on the price point of their already available systems... A standard FLIR is $2k-$3k, but their long range system is >$70k... that's a huge difference. There must be more involved than simple magnification.

I assume it needs to be able to pick up the lower frequency part of the spectrum directly, not just a magnified visual image. not sure how it works though. guess I have something to look at tonight!

I would believe it would be the pick up strength of the sensor that would determine how far it would pick up a thermal signature & even the big dollar ones use magnification . This will be an interesting experiment, I believe much better than night vision .

but will the scope magnify the target in a way the IR can pick up? or will the IR device be blocked by the scope, only seeing as far as the eyepiece.

Thats a good question .

What does a scope do , it magnifies to bring seen objects closer , wonder if heat can be picked up with magnification ? Mirage , you see that magnified . A question for someone with more knowledge than me , but its interesting for sure .

Am I the only one who thought of other uses for this? Lol. "You say you're not turned on? FLIR determines that's a lie!" Lol

I thought that was what FLIR was invented for. Scanning the club for the females in heat.
