Olponts
Please forgive the FNG if this has been addressed, but I could not find a related post. I recently bought a GenII DPMS AP4. Because I bought what I could afford, I finally had the money to “dress it up”. I bought a Sampson Evolution 15” rail for it. To mount on the rail I bought a SightMark 8.5-25X50 scope. When mounting the scope with the included rings, the 50mm lens touches the top of the rail. Is there a way to shim the scope mount that will raise the front of the scope enough to get a lens cover on? Thanks for any help.

shibiwan
It's likely the incuded rings are not meant for a "flat top" extended rail setup like on an AR. Compatible rings should have at least have 0.63"-0.75" saddle height to clear the scope bell for a 50mm objective. You can also use a riser to bump it up to clear the rail. planeflyer21
In my experience risers just contribute to the problem, throwing in another variable...they're never the perfect height. +5 on new rings.
Robocop1051
I'm going to be the bad guy here... First, scopes with a 50mm bell have a very difficult time fitting an AR. They have to sit so high, you'll need an expensive stock (or stock add on components) to compensate. Otherwise you'll never get a proper cheek weld. Second, you bought the AP4... which is absolutely fine, and a very decent rifle... but you have a Looooong range scope for it? That power range is way over what that rifle should be wearing. A 3-9x would have sufficed. Maybe a 4-12x at max. Last... that Sightmark is going to get beat to shitt on a .308. You could've found a Bushnell, Burris or Vortex for around $100-$125, that would outlast the Sightmark. Personally, I'd start over from scratch. Unless it's a riser with a 20 MOA cant, and then you add rings to get the final height you want.
survivalshop
I agree , just get the next higher set of rings . Yours may be low or med. , there is high & extra high also, I have to use extra high with all my AR's no matter what stock I'm running. Most scope rings are measured from the ring saddle to the flat that seats on the scope mount base , but some measure to the scopes center in the ring to the base flat . Try to measure yours to see where its at & just get the next size up , if that lets you keep a clear cheek weld .
