No, didn't call. Just watched some videos. Listened to his recommendation in one of them. He was cooking with the same grill I have...except there was no Traeger lid. He said he got his from the same supplier "some other companies" do. This was the one he had on it. Says he gets 2.5-3 hours of smoke out of a full load.

Ok wash....you're responsible for this one. I need something tasty to try the habañero death dust on. Pretty sure my wife ain't gonna eat that. Gonna need a brisket this weekend too...

As far as the cheese, it almost always under 90 here in San Diego! Got a smoke daddy on the way....I will definitely make an attempt. If not, I'm just going to have to mail cheese to you.

Excellent call. Yeah...there's some left. Scrambled a bunch in with eggs yesterday. Never thought I'd like BBQ sauce on eggs.

That looks killer. I'm still in a pork coma. Going to cook the ribs up this week. More stuff showing up this week too. Should get my ribs from oak ridge and the smoke daddy. Going to call traeger tomorrow about the controller issue. Probably wind up trying he p-0 settings for a bit and if that doesn't help I'll swap the controller in it. Bummer. Cheese sounds bitchin Shepp. My wife has become lactose intolerant and she's going to hate me the first time I smoke cheese.
  9. Sounds like an extractor/ejector problem. I know you say it seems fine, but your issue seems to be extraction and ejection. Swap it out. They're cheap parts and you can rule that out fast.

They are in the cooler now. There was one small casualty. One butt fell apart in transfer.

I've been probing butts all day. Can't wait to pull em out and get a little sauce on em.

That one might have been $800 actually. They make 10 different variations. The phone call will mostly be a complaint with a question of how they want to handle it. It's around on the net, so this isn't an isolated issue.

The ups and downs are quick, so I'm sure it's maintaining a good average, but damn!

On this factory p2 setting, I've had a swing of over 130 degrees total. Set at 225 I've been getting reads 240-375! The air is still outside. It's just the ups and downs from the auger and their built in pause at p-2.

It is BS. And I think it warrants a phone call to traeger. New $900 grill can't hold temp. They should be buying the controller. I was all set. You had me talked into GM. I even got a buddy here to buy a GM...he loves it. Guy we camp with brought his traeger out and my folks were camping with us. They heard me compliment his grill a few times and me mention wanting a pellet smoker...so they got me and the wife this one. I'll take it. But if they'll return it after I talk to traeger this week, I may ship it back.

Apparently they come from the factory on P-2 and most guys recommend P-0 to be the most stable. I will change that before next time. Thanks for the links. I guess the higher P numbers let you smoke at lower temps, but it makes everything crazy from 225 and up.

Return it and get the one I wanted anyways? This thing came as a gift. The crappiest part about today is that starting around 11, I started getting a pain in my gut. It's been getting worse since then. I'm barely going to be able to sample this stuff when it's done.

Swapped probes and changed locations. 148 on the small. 132 on the bigger.

The meat probes have been very consistent. The ambient changes as the grill try's to regulate itself. I can hear the fan kick on and it will spike the temp. Then it will settle down. Then it will feed a little more pellets and ramp up the fan and spike again. At 225 it was running on the 230-275 so I tried dropping to the next setting down at 180 and it dropped off quite a bit. I brought it back to the 225 setting and it climbed to over 280 on the grill and read 360 on my ambient probe on the opposite side of the grill from where traeger has theirs. I figured a pellet grill could keep a better control on the temps than that. For starting temps the small one was just over 70 and the bigger one was mid 60's. The went on a little over 3 hours ago. Been on for about 3 hours 20 minutes. Current temps 167 and 146. I will swap the probes now and report back if it changes. ??

Lid is down and has been since it started. Monitoring temps. The ambient probe on the thermo is showing a swing from 240-325. The digital thermo on the traeger is going from 230-275ish. Had to set the grill at 225 setting. Claims the smaller butt is at 157 already and the bigger one is 20degrees cooler. I'm going to swap probes in a little while to confirm that they read the same. Might be eating one for lunch.
