  1. Rob and the guys down there are super cool. I've stopped by a few times to chat and they have been very helpful. Did he let you hold the 13.7" w/pinned noveske pig? That gun was sweet. As for JP, they were less than helpful when I emailed them about their .308 carrier. I was pretty set on ordering that and one of their barrel sets, but they turned me off to it pretty quick with poor customer service. I'm usually working during most companies business hours, so I rarely call anyone. I'm so used to shooting emails that I just do it without much thought anymore. Maybe things would have been different if I had called them, but they were short and no help with their response to my email and never even responded to the second. I wound up going with Fulton for most of my parts after that. Look forward to seeing your build.
  2. Awesome...more from the great state of "no, you can't do that either" <thumbsup> My gun is almost done and I can't wait to shoot it. Where do you usually go out to? I've been looking around online and found a good long range in Escondido and for close range accuracy Project 2000 in El Cajon has a 100yd indoor range <thumbsup> Welcome aboard.
  3. RC cars are tough to shoot. I started off with a couple Canon 580EX flashes and a few pocket wizards and have since upgraded to an Alien Bee 1600 strobe. I'm hoping to order a few more lights real soon from them. Great lights for the price...check them out if you haven't seen them before. http://www.alienbees.com/
  4. <munch> <dontknow> Like these? It's an expensive hobby Drew....I still have no idea what I'm doing, I just know what I want to buy and try next. My current wish-list is geared towards stereoscopy...and the time lapse is right behind it. Though, I'm kinda wanting to do a little more studio work, so...more lights/modifiers/stands and stuf will come before the other two things I want to do. The stereoscopy HAS to happen though. A lot of things have been done in the desert racing arena....I have yet to see 3D offroad images though.
  5. That's some beautiful stuff Drew! I'm jealous...I'd love to find a gig like that.
  6. <munch> Ok, so where's the rest? <thumbsup>
  7. ooooh....lets see em. <thumbsup>
  8. I was locked out for a little bit, but Drew got me a new key ;)
  9. Update: 1/2" set screw did the trick <thumbsup> Tried out the new bolt catch JD gave me and it was better, but still hangs up. I put the dremel-fied catch back in and figure after a few hundred rounds through it, maybe I'll try the better looking one and see if the receiver has loosened up a touch. It doesn't need much, but I really don't want to file anything else down right now. Lower is 100% complete with UBR attached ;D I'll get the upper finished up hopefully Wednesday night while the wife is at school <thumbsup>
  10. Thank you. We were putting off until we were 30. I thought that meant we would turn 30 and then start trying...but apparently I a man and did not understand the game plan. We both turn 30 this year, so we'll have the kid a few months after my wife's birthday. :)
  11. Didn't think of that, very cool. I checked out my receiver though, and I wouldn't have room to step up much larger than the 8-32 I already tapped...it's right out to the edge of the receiver. ??? I'm thinking I'm going to "carefully" drill out the hole a little deeper and pick up a 1/2" or longer set screw...should work as long as I don't bang up the threads too much when I drill. <dontknow>
  12. So I swung by JD machine today... (quick break to my story to say I held a 308 that had been cut down to a 13.7" barrel with a pinned Noveske pig and Troy Hangaurds-awesome)....back to the story-I wish I had stopped by the shop before I tapped the rear take-down detent hole. I began assembly of the lower last night and ran into two snags. The first came up that the bolt catch was a little on the fat side and would bind in the up position and stick there. Nothing a jeweler's file and eventually a dremmel couldn't fix. It's ugly, but it works. The next snag, oh boy. I've screwed up now. Dropped the detent and spring into the back of the receiver....and they disappear. :o Prior to the build, I had noticed that the hole had already been drilled larger to be tapped and set screwed "awesome-they knew I was going to do this anyways". I measured the hole and compared it to the chart on my taps. The hole was just right for a 8-32 tap and I had already bought various stainless set screws and had a couple 8-32's on hand...so I tapped it. Back to the point where I had just dropped the spring in... :o The set screw I have doesn't seat deep enough to put pressure on the spring...ouch. I called JD and they told me that they use the same threaded pin that goes though the bolt catch (long skinny guy with threads on one end) and that I could swing by and they would give me one. I knew right there I was screwed, because I had already figured out that the threads on that pin are 6-32. I stopped by to see Rob at JD on the way home and he gave me a couple of the pins...though, they're really not going to do much for me now...this info could have saved me some huge trouble before I started though. Oops. I have a plan to fix my problem and will get it taken care of tomorrow night. I also asked if they had been having trouble with the bolt catch (rumor I had heard was that a lot of their 5.56 lowers were extremely tight on the tolerances) and he was straight up about it. "what's your serial??...yeah, the first batch was all pretty tight" He tossed me a new bolt catch and said to give it a try. We'll know about that one tomorrow too. So, I'm not off to a perfect start, but she's getting closer. ;D

    Range Day!

That is super cool <thumbsup> Someone even mowed the lawn!
  14. Thanks guys! I'm pretty sure it's not a Chief's hat....he's new, but he still knows not to root for extreme underdogs ;) EDIT....oops, read what I wanted to....you said CHEF <laughs> Matt...I had a feeling things were going to fly by, I can't wait...I might even be more excited about it than my wife is! <thumbsup>
  15. With any luck, I'll get to take this little guy hunting someday <thumbsup>
  16. ^^^Smells like somebody already has a plan....I like it <thumbsup>
  17. <laughs> They bring back the 10% 2 weeks after I order all my crap! I told you 98, if there's a way I can overpay for anything on this rifle (or anything in general)....I will find it. Missed both sales <lmao>
  18. I hear his weakness is spare gas tube roll pins...I'm sending a whole box for his birthday! <laughs> Dammit...now it won't be a surprise. <thumbsup>
  19. Unless your gun is built like mine. Here's where JD puts the holes...just like the AR15
  20. Rifle length gas system on a 16" barrel. Looking at it now, I would have preferred a carbine gas system and shorter hand guard, but I'm really curious to see how this barrel shoots. I'm not sure if I'm going to run that top rail, or if I'll put the regular rail back on the PRI. The gas block, hand guard and receiver rails all lined up real nice when I checked it out before throwing the top rail on. There's one short piece of rail missing in those pics just behind the block. If the rail stays, the short piece will go on and whatever I wind up with for irons will be mounted there.
  21. <laughs> Let the one person here who doesn't "pre-assemble" step forward...I'm pretty sure you won't find anyone out of this group So here's a sneak peak to the finished product. She's 34.5" closed up and 37.5" open. I made sure I used the wife's point and shoot for this set...I'll get some good ones when she's actually assembled. I made a lot of rookie mistakes just getting it finger tight....we'll just say the gas block comes off pretty easy now :o
  22. ehhh...It's all just point and click. I just like to play around with camera and it's been my main hobby for the last 4 years. But back on track, The UBR and Miad showed up today and I'm itchin to at least finger tight this thing together so I can see what I have.
  23. .458 Socom....You know you want one. <thumbsup>
  24. Finally got around to taking a few pics. I'm one box away from having a whole gun!! Just waiting on the UBR and the Miad which should both be here tomorrow <thumbsup>
  25. Box-o-stuff from PRI showed up today. Still waiting for a good chance to turn the living room into a studio. Kinda hoping all the parts show up soon so I can get to doing some shooting of a quieter kind <thumbsup> Still waiting on the gas block, stock, grip, flash hider, mags, bullet button. Most of which I just got shipping confirmation on today. Waiting sucks ;D
