  1. I emailed DWilson & told him I was going to swap out his Bolt components with my DPMS test Bolt components & test them tomorrow . I took measurements of the depth of the Ejector wells & Bolt face depth & all are the same , so I'm curious to see the results tomorrow .
  2. I think we have seen problems with the Odin hand guard fitment before . The adaptor was not right , the poster had to contact Odin to get it right . Those directions talking about Armalite AR 10 rifles or PA 10"s ? Are you going to use Odin Hand Guard ? If so go with their directions . If you plan on a DPMS type Hand Guard go with the Troy measurements .
  3. This should help your determination.
  4. Unfortunately the rifle still had failure to eject with the new spring inn the ejector . At least one failure per five round rounds . Put my DPMS test bolt in & rifle runs flawlessly. I'm going to have to look at this Bolt a little closer . Not going to completely give up on it yet . I will email DWilson with my results .
  5. Will find out this morning at the range & post here .
  6. So much can change when an even small charge wt. change is made , the fact that the Bullets impacted lower then the lighter charge wt. is just what happened with your loads , your Barrel/Chamber . If you had some Chronograph readings , they might surprise you . Since I started using a Chrono. for re-loading , it simplifies the process of finding the right combination of charge weight to a specific Manufacturers Bullet/ wt.. Everything else comes from testing them .
  7. Well , those post were hard to follow , is why I asked about the Bullet weights . You also don't say how much the loadings were increased & spin drift & as was mentioned , Barrel whip , to some extent may effect Bullet impact , not to mention Barrel heating , unless they are all cold bore . There are a lot of factors involved & some more info is needed . Barrel spec's ? Same COL ? What were the charge weights & how were they weighed ? How much lower did the different loadings impact ? Bullet Manufacturer ? All the same case trim length ? & what were they trimmed to ?
  8. You say the rifles were sighted in with 150 gr. & 55 gr. Bullets respectively to caliber , then you shot 168 gr. & 69 gr. Bullets respectively to caliber ? Heavier bullets will impact lower than lighter ones , if thats the case. Even if you match the Velocity's at the Muzzle . Another thing can be spin drift , right hand twist , depending on other factors can push a Bullet down, or up , for that matter , depends on many factors .
  9. It is good that the FA serrations will work with their BCG , most DPMS type FA are too high on the Upper Receiver to touch anything but the upper part of the Bolt Carrier & come no where near the FA serration's .
  10. Nice !
  11. By double feeding , are you saying two unfired rounds are trying to be fed at the same time or is one a spent round ? Check your Ejector for proper function , pin is in correctly & may need to change the Ejector Spring . Also check the Extractor for proper function .
  12. Is it that you want to go with QD rings , then you want a Picatinny rail as 98 said . only way to pull a scope & if good rings , will re-zero . Warne QD rings I have several sets & they are GTG . What rings are you looking at .
  13. Once the mount is level ,, its level ( if you are talking about the scopes cross hair level , yes , just like any scope that has been removed ) & you can bed it if needed also , as was in your video . You can also lap the ring area , though I have not found a DNZ that has need much yet & I put the DNZ's on most rifles that need a new mount on hunting rifles ,Brownings , Remington's, Savages & with my NEF above . I have had no complaints as of yet . You will need , as you said , to have the rings or mount, high enough to clear the scope above the Barrel . Ring height is tricky, no one has the same cheek structure & what may be good for one person , may not work for another .
  14. One piece mounts like the DNZ, have ring caps to remove the scope with out removing the mount .
  15. Before the Armalite goons step in here ( but they are lovable guy's ), the AR 10 is made by Armalite & for some reason they get all frothy at the mouth when someone says they have an AR 10 & its not made by Armalite ,but we all know what you mean & some components are different between them & other 308 AR's , so it is alway wise to specify which 308AR you have . I agree with Robocop , we have seen a few problems with some NIB coated Bolts , as far as Head Spacing . Believe it has to do with who or how much coating that is done . Make sure you have the 308 Rifle Buffer & Spring , the std AR 15 Receiver Extension ( buffer tube ) works for for the 308AR . You may not even need an adj. gas block , unless you getting a Carbine gas system & a Mid gas system may benefit with an adj. , if want to soften recoil or use specific ammo I have the MI SS 12" Hand guard on one of my 308's , just make sure the rail height is the one that matches your Upper receivers height , if you want them to match up .
  16. Are you wanting a Rail for any specific purpose other than mounting a set of rings ? They do make large adj. for eye relief . & can have MOA angles for long range , but I've been going towards one piece mounts , like DNZ , they also have MOA angles available & the Price is in line with a set of good rings . Just another thing to look at . http://www.dnzproducts.com/product/game-reaper-remington-3/
  17. <laughs> No , no ,no , don't take us there !
  18. I like the photo contest idea . Something new not used or old photo's .
  19. I will , I wanted to test the replacement spring first .
  20. I don't normally talk about my security , but I had a package delivered to my door & I was out of town & informed my Neighbors that I would be away & we had some Monsoon rains coming ,so one of my Neighbors saw the package on my porch & stopped & took back to his house . I texted him & thanked him for picking it up . When I got home , he said , how did you know I got you package , I said I watched it dropped off & watched you pick it up . He said he has to get that system. <thumbsup> <laughs>
  21. Range trip today with 155gr. Amax with 43 gr. of Tac , , Avg. was 2681 fps , ES -24 fps , SD -10 fps . , had some slightly cratered primers , so the loads are not on the light side . I had what seemed a failure to Eject every other round . I posted on the DWilson Bolt thread in 'Parts " section . I replaced the Extractor with a new DPMS one & it didn't make a difference , I didn't have my tool for Ejector removal , so I couldn't replace it , I did have a new Ejector & Spring with me . I did bring my spare Test Bolt , a complete DPMS Bolt , well used , I changed it out & the rifle functioned flawlessly , even with 20 rd. mag dumps . I replaced the DWilson Bolts , Ejector & Spring when I got back & took some measurements of the new , old & DWilson components & read the thread in " Parts " section of DWilson Bolts , to get the info . Its got to be an issue with the Ejector Spring , iMO .
  22. Just who is going to be the Ginny pig on this ? I want nothing to do with it . Now as you said , I would like to see one with some kind of metal reinforcement in it for a 308AR .
  23. Took the Bolts apart & took some measurements of springs & Ejectors. Also removed used spring from My test Bolt that has had a couple of thousand rounds through it & worked flawlessly in the rifle today . All three Ejectors were the same length of 0.572" New DPMS Ejector Spring 0.942" DWilson Ejector Spring 0.891" ( this spring seems to be a heavier duty spring , by looks , it has a thicker spring material , with the naked eye & Magnified ) Used DPMS Ejector Spring 0.880" ( this worked in the rifle ) I pretty much bet , that DWilson doesn't make his own springs & this may just be a bad one or too stiff . Another note , the well used DPMS Ejector spring from my test Bolt has a some what " S " shape to it ,when placed next to the other two , It is used , but still does its job . I also re-installed the DWilson Extractor back in the the DWilson Bolt, its not a problem.
  24. I'm still having ejection problems with my new build with a DWilson Bolt in it . I had fail to eject with just about every other round . I pulled the Bolt , replaced the Extractor with a new DPMS one , thinking maybe it was holding onto the spent case to long , but it made no difference . I had a new Ejector & spring with me , but didn't bring my removal tool , so didn't replace it , but did bring another complete Bolt , my DPMS test Bolt . The rifle ran flawlessly with the DPMS Bolt , I could dump complete 20 rd. mags with out a problem , so its something with the Ejector , me thinks . I will inspect & replace both the spring & Ejector & see how that works next trip out .
