  1. I wouldn't worry about the feed ramps , it should feed fine , The thing about M4 feed ramps , like on AR 15's , is if the upper has them & the Barrel Extension doesn't , that can cause feeding issues . The way yours is , the Barrel Extension has M4 type feed ramps , but the Upper Receiver doesn't . When I have them like that , I just match the feed ramps up for smoother feeding . Clean the Chamber as you think it needs it , some clean after every shooting session & some like me, do it when i get around to it , could be fifty rounds or five hundred , its up to you & how you feel about it , but I alway inspect the Action , before & after every range trip .
  2. That is good service , I would buy a bolt & send it to them with the Barrel & they can check the HS . There sure are a lot of us using just 308 Bolts with out a problem & I have loaded some real HP rounds , with out a problem <dontknow> Thing is , if you need a replacement for one of their Bolts , or if it needs replacing the Firing Pin , you have to get it only from them <dontknow> If you clean the Firing Pin channel in the Bolt, that copper from the Primer , should have no effect , but I would question the Bolt , if pieces of copper getting by the Firing Pin & its hole in the Bolt face ..
  3. Nothing that the old Machinist in a hand drill ,a Dremel tool , can't take care of <thumbsup> <laughs>
  4. I Do you have another Bolt to try ? That would be the first thing to try . I check Head space both ways , I check it before the Barrel is installed & afterwards , but a "No Go " fit may not be good , but may still be with in spec's , for a older Military rifle or what is the designation of your bbl. ? .308 or 7.62x51 ? How does the fired Brass look , from the side. How long is it , is it stretching much .
  5. Never heard of that brand of ammo , but I don't buy much ammo , I've been rolling my own for about forty years & pierced or blown out primers are usually the result of over pressure , be it the over loaded ammo or a Bad Chamber . Your firing pin protrusion is correct , so that eliminates that , so your down to Chamber or over loaded ammo . The 308AR's can shoot any Commercial or MilSpec ammo , I have tested a lot of different brands & configurations. Your Primers , except for the ones with the holes in them look OK , the ones with holes would not show over pressure , because the primer blew out before it could be flattened from over pressure . You say you checked Head Space with "No Go' & Go " Gages , check it with a "Field Gage also , just to be sure . Also make sure they are good gages, I have seen , even on this sight , that Chambers passed because of Bad gages , remove the Ejector to test , unless you have a newer set that has a depression in the Gage for the Ejector to fit in . Be it the Lower or Upper Receiver out of spec , you can still fix the Buffer pounding with that weight set , easy fix & inexpensive. This is a new 308AR build & the BCG just slightly pushes the Buffer away from the Retaining Pin.
  6. Makes perfect sense , still the two actions have a completely different felt recoil impulse , so really one would not be perceived the same as the other , no matter what brake/Comp . was used . Reciprocating mass of a AR type would change a lot of things & I don't recall them testing an 308AR in there. <laughs>
  7. You really can't ask for much more from a std Barrel , MOA is expected . A good match barrel can do more as long as you have a competent nut behind the Trigger & a few other things right .
  8. I had the chance to switch back & forth with green & red on a Buck in the woods a couple of years ago & I was able to see the green quicker for some reason . Over cast day , but light enough to see easily with the naked eye . More pleasant to the eye , maybe ? <dontknow>
  9. I mostly swab it out to make sure no Lubricant is getting into the Chamber from being run very wet .Lubricant in the Chamber can lock up the Cartridge Brass and Bolt in the Barrel Extension , may need to Mortar the Action to get it free . I install only Match Barrels that have been hand Lapped , so the only break in I do is shoot to break in the Action components . There are plenty of videos & methods on line on how to break in a Barrel , I think there are some on this Forum also , some where . With 300 rounds , I would say you are past break in for the barrel . Inconsistent grouping can be a lot of things ,Copper Fouled Barrel ,some Barrel/Chambers only like certain Bullet /loads combos , hard to say , you have to experiment .
  10. The primer piecing is probably the ammo , if its the only Brand doing it .You keep saying Eagle Eye , is it American Eagle ? Hard to tell with the 80% Lowers , There are no MilSpecs on a 308AR like an AR15/16/M4 , Manufacturers make their own up sometimes & can cause all kinds of problems . We have seen a lot of it here with 100% Receivers. Your Buffer hitting the Retainer is going to break it eventually . Does your BCG when locked in the Barrel extension , push the Buffer back into the Lower Receiver Extension when closing the Upper onto the Lower Receiver ? If it doesn't its not to spec's , As said, the Buffer should not touch the Retaining Pin when in operation , with the BCG in locked breach position , the BCG can not go any more forward , so if it can't go forward any more & when closing the Upper onto the Lower , the BCG pushes the Buffer a little off the Buffer Retainer , to keep it from hitting it when the action is cycling . The only time the Buffer should touch that Retaining Pin is when you disassemble or Shotgun the Receivers , its just to retain the Buffer upon disassembly . Has this rifle had the Head Space Checked ?
  11. Has the rifle had the Head Space checked ? The BCG looks like a DWilson Nitrated BCG. You running the BCG wet ? , try keeping it out of the Chamber , I usually run a dry patch after a couple of rounds , when breaking in a rifle , when running it real wet till broken in & going back to normal Lubrication . Double check your reloading procedures , Make sure the COL is not too much more than 2.800" & make sure the Brass are sized correctly .
  12. More likely the Upper Receiver , the BCG is going to far in , we have seen it before , you can fix it , there is a weight system you can add to the Bolt Carrier , don't remember the name ,but someone here will . Easy fix & not expensive if my memory serves me . <thumbsup>
  13. I measured two Bolts the other day for Firing Pin protrusion a used DPMS & a New DWilson Bolt , the DPMS was 0.052" & the DWilson was 0.058" , so your in the ball park. New DPMS firing Pin is 3.941" Tail of the Bolt forward, measurement ? Explain. <dontknow> You have an 80% lower , I have no experience with them & really don't want any , but you having to machine material off the Bolt Catch on the side that catches the Bolt may cause another problem , like catching the Bolt. <dontknow> Just looked at your photo of the Buffer , we have seen damage like that before , is the BCG pushing the Buffer back into the Receiver Extension a little when closing the upper onto the Lower ? In operation the Buffer should never hit the the retainer pin !
  14. My mags shipped today . <thumbsup>
  15. Sounds like it could be a tight Chamber if it will not chamber a 7.62 . It probably already has a crown on the end of the barrel , its just threaded . Now what angle or what shape it is in , that's another matter . Whats the round count on this barrel ? It may make a difference in how well the Barrel is seasoned for consistent shooting .
  16. Yes, but In some ways the muzzle signature & recoil impulse are much different with respect to a Bolt action & an AR type rifle . I just wonder what difference there is between the two types of actions with the testing they did . <dontknow> You could say the muzzle blast of a particular Cartridge with the same loading would be close , but the movement of the action would have to make a difference , not to mention how much gas is exiting the end of the Barrel, since a certain amount of gas is being used in the AR type action . <dontknow> Since most testing was not done with an AR type action . To me it opens a lot of questions , is one type good for all types of applications ? Good testing thats for sure .
  17. LR PMag measurements. 20 rd. first gen. 25 rd. Gen 3 20 rd. Gen 3 These represent the smallest reading I could get from the individual mags . , so the Gen 3 20 rd. mags I have , there is a small but big difference in the width/thickness of the mag .
  18. Brand new in the wrapper mags , one was just put in my Range bag & the other I opened up to check it out & it too had the same problem . Mags were never loaded before . The two Gen 3 25 rd mags I have , have no such problem . I could be wrong in my theory , but I believe the Magazine needs some play with in the Mag well for proper function , a little play , if you will . I think if its so tight of a fitment , that in its self can cause misalignment . Check the fitment of all your mags in the mag well , do they have movement or play with the BCG locked back ? Should have if you expect them to drop free , with the push of the mag release button . <dontknow> Up until this one CProducts Mag failing once the other day , I have 100% reliability with metal Mags , with this Lower receiver & yes I have tried two complete DPMS uppers on this Lower with the same results , crazy isn't it .
  19. I have seen people who need a step by step directions for some things , but a complete walk through for installing a screw, is as bad as it gets , he should have taken it to the Gun Smitter , he would have made it into an AR 10 & problem solved <lmao> <laughs> unforgiven , you went far beyond the call of duty ! <thumbsup>
  20. All the calls & messages must be making them aware of how we all feel , because they are saying now that no charges have been made & all aspects of the shooting incident are under review at this time . Which means to me , they will quietly wait till it all dies down before they drop the hammer on him . Bastiges !
  21. Starting sound like that tight Bolt or a weak gas impulse or with the Aero factory set up . If it functions correctly with the AR 10 set up, that will tell you what not to use , as 98 has said <laughs> . Still makes you wonder what Aero is using or could be the way the Receives Extension attachment spec's are . <thumbsup>
  22. No apology necessary , just glad she is good to go . All we need now is a range report . <thumbsup>
  23. Too rich for my pocket book . 24.6 oz's , wow .
  24. Ok set me straight , tape ? . So from what i'm reading , you installed the OEM Receiver extension & Buffer system & you think its not going back far enough from recoil to reset the Hammer Sear into the trigger Sear ? Or is this the AR 10 set up ? You think the Buffer is too light & the spring is too strong to let the BCG come back far enough to reset said Hammer /Trigger Sears ? Does the Bolt stop lock the Bolt, on last round fired in the Mag ? Can you lock back the Bolt with the Bolt Catch Manually ?
  25. The mags are rubbing on the sides , it seems like they are bowed out in the middle . I'll take a photo , you can see where they are rubbing . I emailed Magpul & asked whats up with these two mags . It starts to stick at first insertion into mag well & gets harder as you go , maybe that stop tab is also binding , but its happening from the beginning . This is what i was talking about with the Followers on all the different mags , the PMag is the only one with the raised portion on the right , I really do not see how that would matter though , as far as feeding ?
