Ruger Precision rifle

I would probably go with 308 . No matter what the results from the above standings . I try to keep my calibers common . -
Did fifty 308's today & washed them with hot , soapy water before tumbling & they came out beautiful , so I think I have to make sure I get all the spry lube off from now on .

Thats the first set up I tried after getting one of his Kits , I had the spring , donut & the Extractor marked " Match " & it still didn't work on the new 18" . I took the donut out & it got worse . That 18" seems to not like the DWilson Bolt in any form but with a DPMS Extractor & spring & a DPMS Ejector spring . I've never had one this finicky , maybe because we have so many different manufacturers & no organized spec's to go from or to be made by . Once you find the right combo or Component , be it complete Bolt or just a spring , your good to go & stay with it . Keeps building interesting . LOL

Good job , JT . Its hard to concentrate on shooting groups when having malfunctions . Takes your mind out of it .

That Ejector removal tool from Brownells, is one of the best investments I have made for the AR & mine will do both Bolt sizes . If you remember I had both an Ejection & Extraction issues , i fixed the Extraction problem with the Wilson Bolt by changing to a DPMS Extractor & it left me with the issue you are discribing in your build post . I changed out the Ejector spring to a DPMS spring & I had no more issues after that .
-
98 is correct , but do you have a precise measuring tooling to say your hole is what the dill size is ? If you get my meaning , it could be larger than you think already & I had the same Ejection issue & did nothing to my Gas Port size & just changed a spring & it fixed the issue . If I had my choice of drilling the gas port or changing the spring , well , the spring can be changed back to what was in there . The high pressure ammo may be a clue or it really is HP for your set up & slamming the BCG back hard & that slamming would Extract or throw any case out of the rifle . Just think , if you go to big on the gas port , you can always use an Adj. Gas Block & with the Gas tube ID, you can only get so much gas Volume & pressure through it .

JT Don't lose faith in a 16" 308 with rifle , mine ran fine from day one , with the correct Gas Port Hole . Yours may not have been designed or tested correctly .

I see that post in " Rifles " , if they are that hard to get , if I want one , I'll wait . Like I said , I'm not much of a Bolt Action person , though I have a couple . I like that rifle , I can say that . -
Wooooooow , Those look like the same extracting & Ejection problems I was Having with the Wilson Bolt . It would lock the Bolt back like it should on last round & the open case would be laying on top of the mag follower . First change the Ejector spring , I did & it cleared right up . Did you get a battery for your Digital Calipers ? , Measure the Ejector spring length & look at my Bolt thread for photo's of my issues .

I remember that post , what were your selling prices for one ? I see them all over the map & in the show they said $ 1299.00 MSRP . -
I don't know how new this rig is , but watched a show on the Sprotstmen channel or something & it seemed like the whole show was about it . I liked it & I'm not much of a Bolt Gun kinda Guy.

I've been thinking again ( I know that could be dangerous ) But since the Wilson Bolt worked so well in the 16" , I decided to keep it there for now . I took the Shadow Ops Bolt from the BCG of the 16' & checked head space with the 18" & since it checked out Ok , I will try it in the 18" & if it runs, I don't need another Bolt . The Shadow Ops BCG only has as many rounds as the DWilson Bolt , so if it works , there shouldn't be a problem with switching them out Criterion to Criterion Barrel with such a low round count . I did take some of the measurements of the Shadow Ops Bolt as I did with the other two , so this will be interesting , because they are different from the other two .
-
I check head space both with just the Barrel & after the Barrel is mounted to the Upper Receiver. Just in case something doesn't measure up , so to speak .

Most of these companies using the AR 10 designation is for quick identification of the caliber & that's why you see it so much .If they said something like its for a big AR , it would ever be more confusing . As far as the designation of said Parts , yes , your right ,these manufacturers & companies selling components should designate what it truly fits , its not helping anyone . Different manufacturers think that proprietary components for their rifles keep owners of said rifles , coming to them for parts to help keep them in business . I with you Beach .

It only happens once in a while , but it bugs me that I believe I'm doing the exact same procedure , but why different results once in a while . I still think it has something to do with the Spray Lube & not cleaning it off . I threw them in the tumbler with Walnut media & they came out nice & polished .
-
I was thinking because I would be in a tree stand 50 % of the time , I would want some light parts of it , like gray, but keeping the Black on the stock for a base would probably work . I will do half my test stock in Gray Base & the other leave it Black & see how it comes out .
-
I may just do the Stocks on my NEF 45-70 , the Bluing looks too good , its a brand new rifle , I've had it for over fifteen years in the box, the Black syn. stocks , I really don't care , the paint will be easy to remove from them, if I don't like it .( or I screw it up , lol ) I think I will start with Gray , as a base coat . What you guys think ?

No one has had this problem with S/S tumbling ?
-
Titanium BCG , interesting & for that material , not a bad price . Interesting Receiver set .

Since I made my last post , I've been wondering what would cause a Bolt assembly to work with on barrel /Extension & not another , after all another Bolt works with this same Barrel/Extension . There has to be a key reason some where , might be just Tolerance stacking or maybe the amount of rounds through the Barrel/Extension , this 18" in question now has about 500 rds. out of it in just testing to see why this bolt has problems ejecting in this Barrel/Extension . I have to test this Bolt in my 20" & see if it works .& then test the other Bolts in this 18" to see if they work , using this same BC . Too bad it was a down pour , I could have gotten all this info & I think my Canopy is going with me from now on , I can use it as a sun shield if its not raining . Thing is all the Barrels are by the same manufacturer. Strange .
