  1. This was brought up in 2010 & I don't feel obligated to follow the rule . My defense is
  2. Barrels are a problem to find , you can order one from some of the big name barrel makers , but be prepared to wait over a year or some times more , from what I've been reading . Its funny to read some of the posts about what people think of this caliber , much like the 300BLK from a while back .They say there are calibers out there that will do everything the 338 Fed. will do , but from ballistics' , that's not entirely true . Its not a 1K cartridge & was never meant to be , its for putting a big hunk of lead into a something at normal hunting ranges , much more than the 308 . The 308 can shoot flatter at distance , but put a lighter wt. bullet in the 338 Fed. & it will pump it out there also, from what I have read. The whole thing as far as I'm concerned is a hunting cartridge & unless your a long range hunter , 3-400 yards with a 200-225 gr. bullet has shown to be very efficient knock down power. Some were saying the 45-70 can do the same , well I have a 45-70 & its a great cartridge in its own right , but I would not compare them that way. I guess I have to slow down on other projects just to see if this is feasible . The cost will be the only thing & I already have the upper & lower & BCG , so it may not be that bad .It has to be light , for carry in various terrain . So if I can make it light weight for humping in the woods , I will go for it , but its going to be a 10# beast , its not going to happen.
  3. That finger printing , CLEO is not a big deal , did it with all my NFA 's , I go with " A " .
  4. Looks like Jp's is the only one that has a 338 Fed. barrel in stock . with head spaced ,JP enhanced bolt , for 599.00 . I guess thats not a bad price with there bolt .
  5. No one knows anything about an AR in this caliber, I thought you people knew everything <dontknow> . I guess I'm on my own <thumbsup> .I may start a thread on it & how its goes . I'm more intrigued by the caliber daily. Have to find a barrel first .
  6. From what you plan to use your rifle for & you want to keep cost down , just go with the MOE . You can always change it later if it doesn't work out .
  7. Aren't they all SBR's until they get excited .
  8. The whole point of a free float hand guard is just the same as with free floating a bolt action or any other rifle , it is to eliminate or reduce any contact points between the hand guard & barrel . Letting the barrel free float or not interfere with the barrel flexing /whipping, so as to let the barrel respond naturally to pressure waves upon cartridge ignition & behind the bullets travel down the barrel . So, the answer is , yes , any barrel length & any range .
  9. Ammo & barrels are already available for the 338 Fed. , I have an interested buyer for a 338 Fed. rifle for hunting . Been reading up , not many barrel manufacturers for the 338 Fed. in AR's . Could use a Armilite , JP's , definitely not DPMS ,not many out there . I emailed one in Colorado , will see what they say . Thinking light weight , 20" bbl. I see a couple different twist rates , 1-10 , 1-8 , 1 -12 , have to do more research . I found an old thread here that started in 2010 , but no one built one of fired one in the thread .
  10. Any one shooting an AR in this caliber . I have a spare upper & lower that I want to make something different out of , well actually a friend wants a larger caliber hunting rifle for Deer & we talked about this ,so before I get into one , I want to hear from some one who uses one .
  11. Your SBR should be grandfathered in , its already in your name .Not sure how they set up your states laws , though . Could also go to immediate family member in a friendly state .
  12. Paper pushers ! In case of the NFA owners death , your NFA item(s) can be transferred to a immediate family member (s) with out charge , just reapplication ( family member ) & finger prints for transfer.
  13. Thats what I have been doing , but with the same twist rate & different lengths. I have set up for both rifles & some just for a particular barrel length. I never load up too many when developing a load , pulled too many bullets when the load was not up to what I was looking for or in some cases , a little too hot . This is the next batch , different weight brass , different charges & different weight bullets ( 168 gr. & 175 gr. ) all ready for the Chrono .
  14. That's what paper bags are for.
  15. 67 to 33 now It won't matter , they will just say its an emotional issue & that's why its so lop sided . <dontknow>
  16. <thumbsup>
  17. Our society is producing these murderers . I think those numbers in that article are conservative . Between all the violent movies , games & loss of family values , not to mention what they are being taught now a days in school . Its also the times we are in , high populations & the percentage goes up . Now what you do about it , well that's a difficult question. I sometimes feel that some of these incidents , are just too convenient . I've asked this before , doesn't it seem like there are more of these type mass murders , since Berry took over .
  18. Not sure how efficient this system would be , you only have a short window of gas pressure at the Carrier Key itself. Interesting idea though , guess who has to pick one up & try it & report back . We have a rule around here . <thumbsup>
  19. We all know , now a days , you won't see the phrase " Act of God " , officially from them anymore . <dontknow>
  20. Sheriff here will not sign NFA transfers any more . Been that way for a couple of years now , wants them to all go to Trust .
  21. They will just say its a Natural disaster & the suit will be thrown out , because they are not responsible for ND's .
  22. It makes you wonder if BATFE is actually doing scientific testing on these devices or just saying it is so & ruling on them , with looks . Its always been what ever the BATFE says , not what it scientifically is . What do they care if some ones sues them , its not money out of there pockets.
  23. If you want to make money , you will more than likely have to invest some . Just the way it is , starting out . I put your sling in a 1" swivel with out a problem . Maybe you should make both sizes available .
  24. Same if you have a dial on the side of the scope for doing it .
