The 3 " orange dot is with my hand loaded 168 gr. SMK @ 50 yrds , just to see how the barrel was doing & the 8 " or bigger shoot & see ,is his 145 gr. surplus mixed in with some of my 5.56 holes. If you look at the top of the larger target , I asked him to shoot the line at the top of the target & he came close ,one on each side , with surplus ammo no less @ 200 yrds. Targets some how got side ways . His adj. cheek rest was too high for me to sight through his scope properly with my hand loads on the 50 yrd .line . The barre & rifle are capable of some fine shooting with the right ammo .

Now that didn't take long to come out <laughs> Way to go Magpul !

If there is not much difference in grouping , go with the 49 grains , on less grain of powder & same ES & SD .
-
Photos to follow ,but the rifle shoots very well . At 200 yards. Shot where you aimed . Much better than the one foot moa it had before I tightened the barrel . Shooting some 145 surplus & doing about two , two & a half inch groups . I shot three rounds of my hand loads at 50 yards & have a photo , will down load them later , but a fine shooting rifle .

What do you mean it wouldn't go over the shoulder ? What shoulder are you talking about ? Photos would help here .

I got my barrel in today & never disappointed with there quality . This my second barrel from them & my 300blk barrel is just as nice . SS, light wt. 5.56 , 16" , mid length gas system.( of course ) Photos to follow

Wonder who makes it ? My guess would be Troy , only because the Troy wrench I have for the 5.56 hand guard nut looks just like this nut ,but smaller dimensions as far as dia. I will take a photo of it & you will see. Ya never know .

Put the barrel back on , lapped the upper receiver where the barrel extension flange seats & glade I did . There was a low spot where the indexing pin grove was on the upper receiver . Barrel nut went to the next hole for the gas tube on this type of barrel nut , Nice & tight & no wobble . Headspace was good Taken her out to the range Sat. for testing, will post results.

Geissele trigger issues.
survivalshop replied to Skg_Mre_Lght's topic in DPMS Panther Arms LR-308 | Bushmaster 308
Check to see if the hammer is being stopped by the disconnect , it is an easy job to stone or file the disconnect than the hammer . Less expensive part also. You may see marks on the top of the disconnect also & that will tell you its interfering with the hammer . also look for any thing that might be under the disconnect & trigger. Geissele makes a good product & his wife's line of trigger systems are also a winner . -
They are very quite when they want to be & can linger for days on sight . Stealth .

Carrier key on tight ? Looks like a weak job on the staking of its screws. Try to keep all lubricants out of the chamber & barrel & off the ammo if possible . Looks like unburnt oil . What kind or brand of ammo ? Normal firing will eventually seal the gas block , (if its on right )

I'm starting this in the shotgun section now because its more about the 870 than general . It's in the General section under "Muzzle in safe direction " Short story , while hunting this past gun season in Ohio , my 870 fired a sabot slug into the ground , I had it on a single point sling & muzzle was pointing behind me & at the ground of course , safety on & my hands .arms were resting on the butt stock. This 870 had a trigger job done three years ago & had a nice 4# consistent pull . The hammer sear just pulled or sheared off , the hammer would not reset after that . So much for a short story , but I pulled it all apart , got an" Accuracy Speaks " hammer kit from Brownells Replace it , with the kits sear replacement spring & after some fitting of the new pin to the slide latch/disconnector & peening the end of the pin in the washer provided , put the assembly back together & into the 870. A trigger pull gauge showed I had a consistent 1.5 # trigger pull , not my kind of pull for a hunting shotgun , but I can not make it trip with out pulling on the trigger the way it should work . The " Timmney 870 trigger fix"is next , comes with a set of three different spring weights . Might try the stock on also .

I have a Troy barrel wrench , that looks exactly like this barrel nut ,but its a smaller size. My combo DPMS/AR10 wrench fits as shown

This is a different hand guard , not sure who makes it . Will post photos when all done . Barrel nut finger tight ! Spun it off with one finger . This set up is new to me , the only wrench that will work with it is the duel DPMS/AR10 heavy duty wrench . the AR 10 side some what fits it & will work . I have a bunch of different wrenches & this nut is different , probably proprietary to the hand guard manufacturer , but the AR 10 will do . Photo's will tell better of whats going on . will re -assemble this weekend & post.

Went to the FOP range meeting last night & there were 170 new applicants for membership to the range . Needless to say I payed my dues & left, since they started the meeting on time & the line went out the door to the out side door . And they thought the 18 that were with me the day I got sworn in was more than they had ever had & that was before BO.

New rifle bought in 2012 some time. Won't know what's really up till he comes over , he wants to watch & learn/know more about the rifles he owns . I will post photo's of the episode.

A true progressive press like the 650 , might make more challenging to a new comer , if ya want a true progressive , its top notch . The Hornady is well liked & ya always have the Dillon 550B that I have, less $$ , & its a performer . The 650 has a lot of bells & whistles. There are those here that have them .

Federal XM80C ammo from my 16" BBL. -- 2676 fps. avg. Federal XM80C ammo from my 20" BBL. -- 2781 fps. avg. Of course this is with a 149 gr. bullet , so you have some room to play with the fps..
