I see the 308 system is not listed ,only the 7.62x39 & AR 15. Buffer system on the BC ? I agree , interesting.

Split cases can be from many factors & you can have more than one condition causing it . Over worked brass , usually from firing & working the brass by resizing it over & over again. Head spacing or unsupported case , your COL may have some thing to do with it . Was the brass reloaded or newly formed ? Some photos of the loaded ammo & split brass . You didn't say which bullet combo split the brass ,do you know which load or loads did ? My guess & its only a guess is a unsupported case , bullet too far out of case (COL ) or cases not formed or sized properly. I have put some high pressure rounds through my 300BLK in testing & you have read what I came up with & never split a case. Blew out a bunch of primers ,but no case splits. If you want the avg. vol. of the shot group , you can just do the math . Write the vol. down & total the shot group up & divide by the number of shots in the group. I log every shot any way & log the ES,SD & Avg. Vol. of every shot group.

Not an AR trigger. They are very good combat triggers, but if you get into longer range shooting or hunting , they fall short. I have some that are tolerable ,but nothing like a good match trigger .

My neck hurts looking at that photo. Stamped receivers,I assume ? They can get tweaked out of shape , I suppose . You would have to set up some kind of reference , against the receiver to check alignment front to back , top to bottom. I'm going to look at mine ,its a Romanian ,but in 5.56 & rifle stock though. New one on me .

Photo's please.

If it was a type S bushing neck sizing die , it might be worth it , but didn't see that in the description. Did a quick look at there sight & didn't see any thing ,even looked in the new products section , maybe missed them some how .

After some tips from users of the SS media , I altered my solution . I use more water ,3/4 of the tumblers drum , one 45acp case full of Lemishine & a two second squirt of liquid dish soap . They came out much better & nice & clean in only 3 1/2 hrs of tumbling. Water still black , but may be the fired brass I put in there . I also put some range pick up 5.56 brass, just to see how they would turn out , because all my shooting brass is clean to begin with & they also came out nice . I also put some 44 mag. brass in there I shot Friday & I do like the way this cleans , even the inside of the case & primer pocket. Its becoming less of a hassle to sort & rinse , so we will see how its goes.

As far as a striped pre-ban lower , if it was bought as mine was , a striped lower , the BATFE would never know if it was anything ,but a striped lower. Now if it was from a manufactured built rifle , they would know that .

The only time I used a FA on any AR type rifle was when I first started to reload for the 5.56 (30+ years ago )& was putting too much crimp on the brass & was setting the neck back & bulging the case body . The FA didn't help very much , only on a couple of cases until I found out what was really wrong & went to taper crimping . Problem solved . The whole issue of the need for a FA was a lot of factors back when the M16 was first developed & as long as you keep your rifle some what clean , you will never need one . You will hear that some want to slowly let the bolt close to be silent & then use the FA to (think ) they close it all the way . Well that can get you into trouble with any auto feed action . Next time you go shooting , see how much you really need one . I hunt with both a pump & semi auto shot guns & I do no load ether till I get into stand & never have a problem seeing & shooting deer.

I can tell ya right now , you can build a great shooter, AR 308 for under $1500, not counting optics's .

Three die set ? Wounder if the FL sizing die sizes the neck also or you have the neck sizer to do that ,in a separate operation . May be good for the bolt action ,but why a third die? Or is it for case forming ? I have no problems with my Forster two die set. I will have to check Reddings sight for more info . I do like there die sets .

List of factory loaded 300 Blackout Ammo

He's teasing us ! -
Have you tried this IR upper to see if it has the same problem as the org. poster's ? There just may be some out there that are way out of spec's . Jgun , good idea about the pivot pin placement .The out of spec uppers may have more than one thing ,out of spec. You say the DPMS has more of a gap between the upper & lower @ the back, than the IR ,upper & lower mated ? Great job measuring , that took some time . I guess it all comes down to how it fits when assembled with a bbl.. Ya know ,one thing crossed my mind , how do we know that they didn't produce the uppers with a gap between the BCG & Buffer, on purpose. We knows its not right ,but maybe there designers had some reasoning for it . Far fetched ,yes , but you never know . They did say they are all that way .

Shell deflector
survivalshop replied to fr3db3ar's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Its basically for lefty's , keeps the brass out of there face. If you are a right handed shooter ,the lack of a brass deflector will not effect you . Using a bag should not make a difference one way or the other. -
Well, kinda mixed feelings on the SS media . I didn't wash or wipe off the Dillon case lube , not sure if it would have made a difference or not , but the first 3 1/2 hr. tumble ,the water & brass came out black & I mean black. I think my 25 year old tumbler may have some thing to do with it , but I changed the water ,liquid dish soap & Lemishine three times & the water did start to get less black ,but still black & as said my be from the inside of my tumbler ,which has never seen water in it in twenty five years . The brass came out shinny & according to the wife & daughter ,it has a smoother look to it like its been shot peened or something to that effect. The comparison to the brass that was just tumbled in treated corn cob media is not striking ,but the primer pocket & inside of the brass is clean as a whistle. The brass was tumbled longer & had three changes of mixture and a total eleven hours of tumbling. more than I would of done with just the treated media . I contribute that to a dirty tumbler & I need to wash off the spray lube before tumbling . I think I'm going to do some with out tumbling the brass first, because it was cleaned in the normal way before I started. It is quite the hassle ,washing & sorting the SS media. The testing goes on .

Most of us build a rifle around a twenty rd. mag , but the mag. doesn't mean any thing, all these rifles will shoot 5,10 ,19(DPMS), 20 rd.& 25 rd.mags with no problem . Now if you asking about building a AR hunting rifle in 308 ,well that's easy , just use the lightest components available . These AR 308's get on the heavy side if you don't watch what is going into them. They will be heavier than any bolt gun any way. A lot of guys use AR 308's for hunting.

Makes me want to have one of there screwed up uppers ,just to fix it . <thumbsup> Any one out there that has one that doesn't do this ?

how did YOU break in your dpms??
survivalshop replied to DPMSClassicFan's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Well , if its a match barrel , it should have been final lapped & no break in should be needed . Some will argue that all bbls. should go through a rigorous one shot clean ,procedure , I'm not one of them . If you keep the bbl. clean & this is very important , it has to be a good bbl. to begin with , for it to be a good shooter. DPMS bbls. are generally good shooting bbls., when you get past the tight & rough chambers on some of them . Just keep it clean & if you do your part , along with all the other factors attributing to good accuracy (good trigger /ammo ), you won't have a problem . -
Damn, another tool that I have to buy.
-
Man, this just keeps getting better . The threaded or lack of ,portions of the uppers barrel's , would probably not mean a thing , as long as the barrel extensions flange seated to the same dimensions, as the others . Now if the barrels extension was seated too far forward , that would put the BCG forward also & in turn would leave the BCG forward of the buffer . That would bring up some easy fixes ,but how do you know all of the IR uppers are all out of spec's , this may by an isolated few receivers , that are being effected. I would start by getting another manufacturers upper with known proper functioning characteristics & start taking measurements . If all it is ,is the bbl. is too far forward , the face of the upper ,where the barrel extension flange seats , could be cut back , along with the indexing slot , but how would you know the cam slot & other dimension's would not be out of spec's by doing that. Nice can of worms opened here.

I have a SI Defence upper on my CMMG lower. Mine is a snug fit ,very little wiggle . I have had some problems with the lower as far as some fitment issues , minor stuff ,like the bolt catch had to be worked to make proper contact with the bolt , to hold it back . My CMMG will not function with Magpul Pmags , no problems with CProducts or DPMS mags . I like the lower ,it has nice features & a good feel. The SI Defence upper is the origanal rail height as would be a Fulton Armory upper ,but the SI Defence is billet.

Adjustable butt stock
survivalshop replied to neilca's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Only if it is also a fixed type stock. The Adj. stocks take a different receiver extension (buffer tube & they can use std. M16 receiver extensions ) ,308 , spring & buffer. Of course when you get into the adj. you can get Commercial or milspec receiver extensions . They each take a corresponding stock. -
Gee, I want one !

Well I broke down on a whim & ordered some SS media for my tumbler & will use the Lemishine wet formula to tumble some brass . Its an experiment , the clean brass they show is tantalising . I have a bunch of 308's sized & deprimed for it & lemishine of course , I use it in my dish washer so it won't be a problem having it on hand . Will take photo's of course .
