Bolt lockback issue
survivalshop replied to Bfalcon00's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Is the BS that was in there one for a 308 ? The alignment of the gas tube will mostly effect bolt closing, you don't seem to have that problem . Run this BCG wet, keeping lube out of the chamber. Have you tried the original gas block to test bolt hold open ? -
Ya , put the AG in charge of it ,I'm sure he will handle it all with in the law . By using executive orders he circumvents the will of the people by bypassing the very entities that are designed to check the power of the executive Branch . These people will stop at nothing & he has never had the gun owners in America behind him ,so his puppeteers will do what ever they want . He is good at exciting the firearms industry in sales , gotta give it to him there. " Anybody but Commiebama in 2012 " I should make a bumper sticker with that slogan on it .

Do you have something against 20" or this all experimentation ? I assume this is shot @ 100 yrds., why not try this length out farther , 200,300 yrds. , after you break it in of course. I'm curious , ya got my attention, but I believe this has all been done before or documented some where . What is your goal , more accurate , lighter ?

They said they didn't get my address & will send me one right away . We shall see .

I think there replacement bbl., 16"HB., is 0.750". Not sure if its the same bbl. that's on your rifle . If you are unsure just call them or remove the GB & measure bbl. dia @ GB attachment point.

I haven't heard of any Hogs by Cambridge, where I gun hunt, just the big foot type thingy , what do they call him down there marsh or grassy monster or something like that, I can't remember. Now that would be a trophy! I misses a Coyote last year with my Anaconda 44 mag., but not heard of any Hogs taken around us . I have plenty down here in Florida to whack.
-
I sent them a reminder today & also asked for the part # so I can order them . Just in case. I really didn't want one for free any way , just the right part.

Is it because you like your PEEPs cooked ?
-
Nice , thanks .

Well, how about that Jgun ? At least now ya got some where to start loading or buying ,if & when they come out with it . That shows about a -10" impact ,if sighted in @ 100Yds, if I'm reading that chart right . Not sure if that would work for shorter ranges ,but your sight in can be adj. to your needs . Range Velocity Impact Drop ToF Energy Drift 200 1628 -10.8 22.13 0.34 1030 4.81

Bolt lockback issue

Can't see how you could be over gassed with a rifle length gas system ,unless you had miss matched components (buffer /spring/receiver extension ). Its sounds like you are under gassed now (adjustment) or you have binding components . If you can charge the BCG & it holds back the bolt correctly with empty mag., with no binding , the system components are OK. Are you sure the gas block is on correctly ? I have a 20" Fulton bbl. & no problems. -
I have one on my 20" & I like it . Not sure of the weight ,but hell , that rifle is heavy any way. I like the way you can move around with it . Others don't like it ,they say it feels loose, but the rifle is dead on using it .

Have you tried to use a tapered deburring tool to take the crimp out ? I know quite a few loaders that do it that way . I have the RCBS primer pocket swagging tool & it works fine ,but I still ream them a little just to take the edge off , it puts a slight taper to help the primer alien & feed into the pocket easier.

Yes , bullet configuration will determan where they can be seated COL. & also with a mag. feed rifle ,the mags may also determan COL. The bullet being seated as close as possible to the rifling is how most with bolt action rifles set them up . You have to remember that these are auto feed systems & that may also add to the equation . You can have a compressed load , you just have to watch for pressure signs . Add powder in small increments for testing & you will see when things start to go too high . You can always pull the bullets that are higher then the ones that start to show , that's how I do it . I usually load 3-5 rounds of different charges & chrono & inspect them ,also see how they group . The fastest &/or highest pressure rds. do not always produce the best groups .

Not knowing it killing me...

It could be these ,that they say will be available in Sept.. http://308ar.com/forum/index.php/topic,1702.0.html -
They both look well made ,but heavy.
-
Some have had problems with the one shot , not sure why , because some swear by it . I have been using the Dillon for quite a lot of loading now & I have found that ya got to leave it alone for at least 10 Min. before sizing, I usually wait longer. I would be willing to bet ,they are all basically the same formulas.

Them there primer crimps can be a *$%$#@. Is it that the primers are going in to tight or too loose ? I use my RCBS deburring tool to chamfer the pocket to take anything left over off from the uniformer or my primer pocket swagger . I have even taken to ,just doing that with the 5.56 I cut down & form for my 300BLK & makes the primers go in nicely, but tight . Also works on the 308's. Some brass likes certain manufactures primers better than others.
-
Ya , most don't have a lathe or the expertise to do that , nice to have that option . I will be waiting for a range report, for sure .

My CMMG lower rifle will hold the Pmag ,but I get bolt over FTF. It seems others have used the Armilite mag catch with success to keep mag in position . Seems like a lot of tolerance differences with the CMMG lowers . Be interested in how yours functions with the Pmag & Armilite catch. I might try one my self ,just because it might help. Ya never know , the tolerance differences are very small .
-
A lot of us here were building AR308's before Pmags were on the drawing board , but just having more than one manufacturers mags. that fit is what made my mind up & the price of said mags.. Although I have a CMMG lower that will not function with the new Pmags , it still will use any steel one made for the DPMS pattern rifles. I don't blame ether manufacturer for this, just the way it is .

M14/M1A have a 22" bbl. .STD. Like I said ,nothing written in stone , but it will have some thing to do with performance & accuracy. Is the twist of the BBL. 1-10 ? We are talking about a .30 cal bbl. ?

Forgetful cops leaves rifle on trunk lid
survivalshop replied to Madhouse's topic in General Discussion
If you or I left an open ,uncased rifle on the trunk lid of our vehicle , what do you think would happen ?
