  1. Once the Bolt seats with the Barrels locking Lugs , it should loosen up , so to speak . Feeding & extracting certain live ammo may have issues extracting on a new build , shouldn't have any issues with the Action when the ammo you feed is fired . Keep it well lubed for the first hundred rounds or so . Criterion is my main brand of Barrels for the 308AR , that chamber works very well indeed .
  2. I'm telling you , my two new Sigs shoot so far to the left I was missing the Target ,stand & all @ 20 yards . When I compensated & aimed for the right side of the Target , I was hitting the wood post holding the cardboard that the Target was stapled to , with both Sigs , so it could be me, but I've never missed the Target like that , bad eyes , old eyes , all the excuses I can muster , never shot & had a Handgun shoot that far to one side or the other . This tool will fix it , the Pistol shot from a rest will tell me more on what is really going on & I may go to the range tomorrow , ahead of the Hurricane .
  3. I really don't agree with this Break in or longer break in story , Action should work from round one . If it doesn't , something is not right , though saying that , some may have issues with components from different manufacturers , since there is no standard for these DPMS 308AR Clones . I say some , because you get what you pay for & you are taking a chance with any low ball price for a BCG or even a Barrel , from some fly by night Company, that no one has heard of . Some can say all they want about DPMS Components , but they have never failed me , they work from round one . I have had issues with mixing up Upper & lower Manufacturers Receivers , but it was a Magazine issue with the new first gen. LR Mags , Metal ones worked , so the rifle still shot from round one , until I got a PMag when they came out with them for the DPMS Based 308AR's . Not being snobby or anything like that & the Components don't have to break the Bank , but there are known manufacturers of said components that work , DPMS , Fulton Armory, are just a few, that just work . Manufacturers of some rifles & components cut corners to get a rifle or components with a lower price range , nothing wrong with that , but Tolerance stacking or just improper machining tolerances can cause issues . There was a member here who manufactured & used to sell BCG's , absolutely some fine tooled BCG's & some had issues with them with Ejection issues , I purchased one from him & had FTE issues , after taking measurements of the Bolt & its Components , I found machining tolerances different then a Factory DPMS Extractor , I got a kit from him with a upgraded Extractor , still had FTE issues , put the Factory DPMS Extractor in & the action functioned flawlessly . It goes to show you , it doesn't take much for a component to be off , for it to cause issues . I guess what I'm trying to say is , if you just rebuilt the Engine in you truck & it would stop & seize up once in a while , would you think it would need longer break in ? Or would you look inside & see whats really causing it to lock up & not work .
  4. It works pretty good , took some practice to get it all correct for the Push , it also took some light taps of a small ball peen Hammer to get the sight to move or break it loose , but other then that , it was easy . I put tape on all sides , on the slide sides to protect t it from the Tool & both ends like they show in the instructions to mark the middle of the sight . The slide on the M&P Shield is so short that the top clamp down was in the middle of the Ejection port . Kinda awkward , but still works as it should have . Front Sight seemed to twist a little in the Dove tail , had to reset the Slide so the Pusher would straighten out the long fiber optic part of the Sight , but it works out OK . Back sight had a Spring loaded base for , I think a Disconnector , I will have to look at the break down of a Shield , I don't really know what it is , the Rear Sight olds it in place or what could be called , Captive . I was going to push the Sight on , Left to Right , but with that Captive Spring assembly , I had to go , Right to Left , so to hold down that Spring loaded component . I will use a Brass Bar or brass head Hammer ( which is what I will do from now on ) to hit the Sight Pusher , their way of taping on it with Pin Punch was almost impossible , with out the Tool in a Vice . Its a work in progress , I had a small Ball Peen Hammer close & my small hand Made one was too small . Now all I have to do is take it to the Range & use a Handgun rest to shoot & see if they need any adjustment . Before After
  5. Check this Thread out
  6. Easy , you have too much room in that Safe Need to do some shopping Be safe Brother , this one is going to be nasty & looks like its path is on my side of the State , but it will effect all of us here . My wife sent me a photo of I 95 on her way to work , nuts to Butts with cars heading north , Rest area was over flowing with cars . Never have seen it like this before , this storm is making people think for a change . Hopefully it will head out into the Atlantic I'm inland a bit , but between the ST Johns River & the Intercostal .
  7. I have also noticed through the years that, some manufacturers NIB Bolts can be tight when new , because of variances in the coating & not seated to the Barrels Extension & will show funny HS readings .
  8. Hurricane Jose is right behind hurricane Imra . Just updated it ,75mph winds !
  9. This is why I only use Rifle Length Gas systems on my 308AR's , My 16" HB by Criterion has a Rifle length system & is not over gassed , it has a 308 Kick or recoil , but its more of a shove .
  10. Barrel has to be installed & Barrel Nut Torqued to spec's before you can check Head Space , with a dry bolt & Barrel extension locking lugs. From Foreter Web Sight "Three lengths of Headspace Gages are available per caliber: GO length — This checks the rifle to see that the chamber will accept the cartridges made to maximum SAAMI specifications. NO-GO length — This is used by most gunsmiths as a maximum headspace gage when chambering a rifle’s headspace dimension. If a rifle closes on a NO-GO gage, it may have excessive headspace. If a rifle closes on a NO-GO gage, it may still be within the SAAMI Rifle Chamber tolerance. Next, it should be checked with a FIELD gage. FIELD length — If a rifle closes on a FIELD length gage, its chamber is dangerously close to, or longer than, SAAMI’s specified maximum chamber size. This is the longest of the three gage lengths. " From Criterions Sight ; "Please note that although many .308 AR bolt manufacturers advertise their bolt as compatible with DPMS pattern .308 AR rifles, lug and bolt face tolerances often vary widely between different manufacturers (as opposed to the AR-15, where there is a uniform industry standard). Criterion barrels are gauged at the factory with Fulton Armory .308 AR bolts. We have also had success in demo rifle testing with bolts from DPMS and JP Enterprises. If you have any questions regarding bolt compatibility, please email us at contact@criterionbarrels.com."
  11. Thanks , this storm will effect just about everyone here . Just remember we go through this crap every year , people are taking this storm serious , like I have never seen around here before .
  12. Its all about the Big Hot Barrel for her .
  13. Good to hear it did something , I have found with any AR model , they seem to be different in what fixes the extraction/ejection issues . I just had an old build , AR 15 that had weak ejection & the first thing I found after examining the components was a misshapen Buffer Spring , so it was the first thing I changed & it solved the hot brass landing on my hand . Sometimes its the Extractor or the Ejector , seems you have to try one or another to solve an issue . The Rough Chamber holding on to the Cartridge too long ( timing ) used to be a issue with early DPMS LR rifles , but not so much anymore. We have been seeing some Barrel Manufacturers using an incorrect Gas Port size in the Barrel ,causing issues . Keep her well lubricated & see how she works .
  14. Watch the video from Criterion on how they attach their barrels to the Upper , its the way I do it now a days . You can go to I think the third one is barrel assembly , its good to just watch all of them .
  15. For a 308AR ? I would buy a Hand Guard from a reputable manufacturer & source , I don't care for Fleebay , you never know where its from or what its made for . Just remember , you get what you pay for .
  16. Damn , thats a long Barrel , I thought my 20" HB was heavy looking & it was purchased from FA , many years ago , a Kreiger Criterion Barrel . Its a tack driver if I do my part .
  17. Hay, its like getting back on a Bicycle
  18. Some Handguns just don't work or fit some people , just the way it is . I have three XDM's & one XD & have no issues with them at all & would have no issue with taking them into combat .
  19. I sold my last HD this year , for the first time since I can remember , I don't have a Harley . They just sat there in the Garage , after I retired , no idea why , I had 72K on my Ultra . Now my only hobby is GUNS, GUNS , GUNS !
  20. Factory Rifle or a Build ? Need some spec's on the Rifle . It may not always be the normal things for weak ejection, I just had my oldest AR 15 , that had all the original components from when I built it in the late seventies , no idea of the round count & it was doing the same thing yours is doing , with the hot brass dropping on my arm , shooting from a rest . It just started to do it at a range session after about a doz. rounds were tested . After disassembled & inspected , I found the Buffer Spring had some strange bends in it , so I changed it out & the ejection pattern went back to normal without any ejected cases doing anything, but ejecting at 3 o'clock & about three feet away . Sometimes its not the obvious , I had a Bolt repair kit ready at the range , just in case I had to change out the Ejector or Extractor components , but didn't need it . The Photo below doesn't show how this Buffer Spring on the left has some funny twists to it , but its next to a new one , both Rifle Buffer Springs . As said above , it may just need more rounds through it , could be a slightly rough Chamber & gets tight when warmed up . Could be type or brand of Lubricant .
  21. I carry one daily & shoot drawing from concealed at the range practicing . I have never heard of or seen anyone with a integral trigger safety have an issue , this is the first time I've heard of it . Not saying its impossible , because it happened to Jacob , but now I'm going to have to ask around . Which is worse a Handgun that doesn't go off or one that goes off if you drop it exactly at a certain angle on the Beavertail of the back of the Grip ? The Drop fire is the only reason I'm not carrying the P320C . Now I have to try mine .
  22. No need for adaptors with the Wheeler Engineering tool . I was going to buy the new Range master from MGW, but all the different adapters ( same as their Sight Pro ) & the fact that it couldn't be used on a lot of 1911 type pistols , like its big $$ Sight Pro , turned me off , that & all the emailed Questions & no answers about that restriction . Plus I needed a sight pusher now , I went with the Wheeler , its probably not the best but has a load of people saying it works fine on every sight they used it on , is why I went with the Wheeler . This thing is built like a Tank & its going to get a work out this week , both in adj. mounted sights & a complete replacement . If you want to send your slide across the Country for sight replacement , go for it , i'm in
