  1. Shouldn't be too hard to build. I was at the range last summer and a guy had one with a 10.5" barrel , it was a real flame thrower and very loud. I'm not too sure how practical it would be over a sbr at 14.5" except your not paying for a tax stamp.
  2. Welcome Little Bird ! My only advise is to buy a gun you can afford to shoot ! I would requimend getting an AR 15 in .223 then buy a CMMG BCG in 22lr with a mag for $180. That way you can practice with cheap 22lr ammo and swap out the bcg and shoot 223 out of the same gun. My GF loves shooting her AR-15 22lr , its lightweight and has no recoil. The gun is really fun to shoot , magpul sights and a red dot set up.
  3. Made loads for the 357sig, used win wsp primers and 1x brass and 1x nickel cases. Coal was between 1.135" to 1.140". 125gr Hornady XTP : 9.4gr of Imr 800x 9.5gr of Imr 800x 9.6gr of Imr 800x 140gr Sierra JHP: 9.4gr of Imr 800x There were no pressure signs on the cases or the primers. The loads shot well.
  4. Went to the range last week and shot the 357sig rounds. The converted 40s&w worked with out problems. I did have an issue with some nickel 357sig 1x rounds. Fixed them today. I ground 0.003" more off of my shell holder (Shell holder height is 0.242"). Also set my max height COAL to 1.138" , had a problem with rounds loaded to 1.1405". The Sierra 140gr JHP and the Hornady 125gr XTP work great in this platform.
  5. Please put down the Spikes Kool-Aid ... Look at other manufacturers , the design is not that special. Do a little more research , you should be able to get a BCG for under $200 and the barrel extension is the ONLY item that is special. Get a dedicated lower or a Hahn adaptor and every thing else is standard AR15. <thumbsup>
  6. What mag are you using ? Coal 2.817"
  7. Also would like to add that heavier bullets do not stabilize until past 200 yards...
  8. Plan on trying some 200gr bullets on the AR300wsm. 180 to 200gr appears to be the optimal weight.
  9. Looks like the bad guy choose the wrong house ! I lived about 3 miles from there in the mid 80's.
  10. Ok guys I am Beta testing a new adjustable gas block . Last week I put 120 rounds down range in my new 6.8 rifle. Well what i have to say is ; This works great and can be easily adjusted. Its a BMF !
  11. **Disclaimer: My opinion in no way should be taken as gospel. It is completely the biased opinion of gun-snob, who is admittedly prejudice against all guns and gun parts he deems unworthy, with absolutely no factual grounds on which to base his opinions. <thumbsup> NHO = Never Humble Opinion <lmao>
  12. Seagiant, There is plenty of info on this site about gun builds ,problems and solutions. You are just going to read alot of posts. As stated earlier, Gunbroker.com will be one of the better sources of parts or an upper. When you are ready to assemble your lower, AR15.com has a tutorial step by step instructions. BTW I am a 308 guy 8)
  13. Tried to add Hodgdon 308 data but it would not take its file ext. Go to the powder sites and download their online manuals, hope this helps.
  14. Tried to load the Accurate manual but the file is too big. Sorry !
  15. Does the Spikes version have something different on it from the standard AR15? Itsi bitsi spider ! <laughs>
  16. Alright I loaded 50 of the converted 40S&W with 125gr XTP's and IMR 800X. It is a starting load and I will keep the pressure under 35k psi. The 357sig 1x rounds also were loaded with 125XTP and IMR800X. Picked up some 1x nickel 357sig cases and some Sierra 140gr JHP SportsMaster bullets loaded them with 9.4gr of Imr 800X and Win wsp primers. I'll try these out this week.
  17. The height is short on the 40S&W cases when converted. A few people have stated not to bother doing this. My cases are between 0.011" and 0.017" short of the lenght in the books but none of the 1x 357sig cases are that height either. I have tried a two step sizing method. 1st use the Carbide 40S&W die then the steel 357sig die. This works well on the 357sig 1x cases also. No lube needed !
  18. Dude get it ! <thumbsup> I have a RRA 9mm lower and that works great. CMMG also has a 9mm lower. Lone Wolf has one that takes Glock mags ,but it is more elusive than a pegasis unicorn!
  19. Robo , thanks that is what I was thinking. Two sites stated that the Glock and Sig swaps didn't need a mag change but there was no info on the Springfield XD. The .357sig rounds fit in the 40S&W mag with out any issues.
  20. Found the solution on GT and took 0.005" off of the shell holder. Tested a few casings...OK. I am not annealing the cases. One and done on the first batches. Using misc brands of brass on the first loads. I sorted 3k of 40S&W cases this afternoon.
  21. I have been playing with the setup and need a little less than .50mm extra height to make the 40S&W case into a 357sig, the shoulder is just short. Do they make a low profile shell holder or will a small base shell holder work ?? The only solution i can think of is to grind the top of the shell holder down .50mm. Any thoughts ???
  22. XD-40 Mag # xd-5011 12rd XD-.357sig # xd-5012 12rd I dont know if they are compatable?
  23. Can I convert my XD-40 to a .357sig with just a barrel and spring change ? Or do I need to get new Mags ?
  24. Going to start reloading 357sig. Just want some recipies to save me a little time and money. Picked up a RCBS die set today for this cartridge. Also got a Lee trim kit for the 40S&W. I will be modifying 40S&W brass , just happen to have a few thousand empty cases. Looking for a powder and charge for 125gr bullets. Will be using Win wsp and CCI 300 primers. TIA Mike
  25. Wow a DPMS with a decent Quadrail now that is a first. <thumbsup> <thumbsup>
