  1. Welcome from AZ !
  2. Welcome from AZ !
  3. I know what mean. Waiting for my Dane Armony version of the QD 308 lower receiver. I'm going to do a #11 and #24 theme guns !
  4. Got the RCBS small primer crimp removal tool at Sportsmans warehouse. Also got the large handle that goes to it. Did 75 rounds in about in 25 minutes, its going to take a while to do a 1000 cases.
  5. Went to Quentin Defense and looked at the slick side 308 upper and it is in production now ! This fits the Sun Devil Lower receiver and the DPMS lower receiver, has extra beveling around the charging handle mouth area. <thumbsup> The side charging 308 upper is still in the R & D stage with the prototype.

    brass

Winchester brass works great for me ! Cant afford to shoot Lapua brass. Get any/all types that are avalible to you, try them for yourself then use what you like best. LC , Fed, Win, Hornady and Remington are what I use.
  7. I have 7 Lee FCD's and they work great. The trick to these is to do a light crimp and DO NOT put a hard crimp on the neck. An over pressure situation would be the only draw back to using the FCD. I put a light crimp on the rifle rounds so there is no set back because of movement in the magazine or during chambering.
  8. BAE <thumbsup> +1
  9. I'm good to go with the 308 rounds, I dont have any empty 308 brass. Still have two boxes of 30cal Hornady bullets 168gr and 180gr. I would like to develope a 6.8spc load in CFE223. I am out of prepped 223 brass but have over 1k of LC brass with crimped primer pockets which need to be swaged by a Dillion or RCBS method. Got to buy another tool.
  10. Mcxring, As far as the xbr vs. cfe , like like the xbr better as far as metering it is more consistance. CFE bounces around by a tenth or two of a grain and I have to weigh each round. Also the CFE appears to be temp sensive. But the jury is still out because I have not shot any yet !
  11. Mcxring, thanks for the loads. The loads I have made so far: 1X cases, Win wsr primers, Hod CFE 223 power, OAL (2.233-2.250"), light crimp. Hornady 60gr SP w/ 25.5gr Hornady 55gr SP w/ 26.4gr Hornady 55gr FMJBT/WC 25.8gr I haven't shot any of these yet. Got each of these loads from other sights on the net.
  12. I would like to get a couple more ar lowers and reloading supplies.
  13. RULE 13: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR ! :'( I really hate to put this out there but. Cheaply made parts by low bidding companies some of them are made in Asia. Loose torarances on machining doesn't help.
  14. Tight Chamber ! This is a new upper ? How many rounds have been shot through it ? Did you headspace the bolt to the chamber ? I don't want to suggest a slight polish of your chamber yet but it may need to be done. Please give us more info . Like ammo used. Was the BCG oiled. And anything else to help. The more info the better.
  15. Welcome Mcxring. Are you willing to share some of your better loads ?
  16. I believe you are talking about the stick vs ball powder problem in the early sixties with the developement of the m16 rifle. All of the testing was done with stick powder which burned completly, then when the rifle was deployed in Vietnam the cheaper ball powder was replaced by our military. The lack of cleaning and the unburned ball powder residue in the barrel and chamber caused jamming in the jungle. It was later determined that the moisture in the ball powder was the main cause of this problem. I have used 7lbs of H335 in 223/556 and 6.8spc rounds and have had zero problems with this powder. But with H322 I did make a bad batch of 6.8spc rounds which had lube on the inside of the shell after sizing and caused unburned granules to collect in the barrel . This caused a double fire condition which broke a carrier and the extractor. If you are interested in some H335 loads I can get those to you. Mike H.
  17. Edge , I really like the upper with the add on rails ! BTW aren't AR15s just fun to build. <thumbsup>
  18. The side charging upper prototype is built , thats all I can say. I dont have any info on it.
  19. What you dont have a backpackers pillow ? Only weighs 4 oz. That way you can sleep with a gun under you pillow. <laughs>
  20. News flash...Dave doesn't run the shop ,he has a day job. Anita would sell you a second upper receiver ..no problem. Besides with a extra upper receiver you could start the next gun ! Ya thats how it starts <lmao>
  21. I think it is temp sensitive. I'm using the bottom third of the fun scale. Plus i'm using data from others ,hitting an accuracy node at 26.4gr on the 55gr bullets.
  22. Finally got a pound of CFE 223. I will be making rounds of .223/5.56 with Hornady bullets. On the 60gr soft points I put 25.5gr and win wsr primers. The 55gr soft points I will use 26.4gr and win wsr primers. Haven't got a load for the 55gr FMJw/C yet. I have two plastic containers of 125 each of brass prepped and I'll have to size ,trim & champher the rest. I'll keep you guys posted.
  23. Noticed that as the rifle warms up the velocity of the projectiles also is going up . Also the low volume loads appear to be more accurate (44.7gr), but this may be because the rifle has not gotten hot yet.
  24. Just a heads up , if you haven't purchased the upper then you might want to wait for the Sun Devil side charging upper for the 308.
  25. I picked up a pound of Imr 800X and a 100 box of Hornady 125gr xtp's . Loaded 50 in nickel @ 9.4gr and 50 in brass @ 9.3gr and 9.2gr .
