MagPul MOE handguards on a DPMS AP4.....?
MikedaddyH replied to Lon Moer's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Ok... The Key to this is to order the "308" Delta Ring Pack ! It is a perfect fit . Sounds like you have the AR15 delta ring pack. Brownells has them and a couple of other companies they go for about $25- $28. <thumbsup> -
Shot a few rounds today. 4" circle , the scope needs to be sighted in and the gas port hole needs to be enlarged. This should make a nice bench gun.
-
I bought one of the RRA dedicated lowers and its the Sh!T . Good luck if you're looking for one. Those projects cost money , thats why we are all broke here !

Have you gotten the BCG ?? Got mine from Quentin Defence dont know what brand but they "ramped it ". One of the spin off companies from Olympic has some for sale , cant remember which one right now but will get that info to you.

Mikedaddy's 300WSM AR or( Papa's got a new gun)
MikedaddyH replied to MikedaddyH's topic in Black Rifles
Went to the range this morning and shot 2 rounds through it Lance shot 1 round. Had a problem with the ejection port opening which will need to be enlarged so the 300wsm casings can escape. The gas port size seem to be right and it feed properly. The recoil was about the same as "Kate" my 24" Bull barreled DPMS upper without a flash/comp/brake on it. Way less than the 300wsm bolt gun. This has the Mini Gun blank on it and I am impressed ! The diameter is .936" its hefty but the gun doesn't seem heavy. Here's at pic ,not very good too many shadows. It is missing the handguards and has the Hawke Sidewinder scope mounted. -
Don't you just love those stainless steel barrels ! ;D

Possible group buy on 308 match barrels !
MikedaddyH replied to MikedaddyH's topic in General Discussion
Update : Yes they are "Mini Gun" barrels. They are "Button Rifled". Manufacture is Green Mountain Barrels. He can order any manufacturers blanks but the price goes up dramadicly. The next lowest priced blanks are the 30" GMB. The Kreiger blanks are $400 and those aren't perfect every time. One of three of my McGowen blanks was off center. With the Mini gun blanks there will be less machining time; two threadings ,a barrel profile, barrel extension installed and headspaced & gas port hole drilled at the approprate location. Possible group buy on 308 match barrels !
MikedaddyH replied to MikedaddyH's topic in General Discussion
The gunsmith is Lance from Dane Armory. I'll get more information on Monday/Tuesday when I pick up my gun. I can tell you that there is over 4 hours of machining involved in each barrel . He does excelent work. The "Chamber work" is the key. If I have to drive down to Tucson and let 98 or Blue or Jon shoot my 6.8's or the AR300wsm so be it ! -
Tight oh yeah ! Been there done that with PRI, take your time ,lube it ...on...off...repeat a couple, three times. Take a couple asprin and call me in the morning <thumbsup>

Dude , dont use steel in that rifle ! It might scar the inside of you chamber. Brass is so much softer than steel and much more forgiving.

Ok Guys, I was talking with my gunsmith today and he inquired if anyone on our forum would be interested in buying match barrels. I suggested we do a group buy. The barrels are 22 inches in length and 1.25 " dia. They are 1:10 twist and are made out of 41V50 Vanadium Steel. He can cut them to 14.5 , 16 , 18, 20 or 22 inches and threaded 5/8 -24 muzzle end. The barrel extension will be installed and the gas port drilled. Barrel profile would be optional but a .936" to the gas port would/should be standard size. I would like to find out what kind of interest is here. As far as a price point that is open at this point but a $300 to $400 range would be a starting spot. I will be getting a 18 inch barrel. Well is almost done ! The 21 inch barrel is chambered just need to drill a gas port hole and install a gas block. Will not use a flash/comp/brake at first ,just want to do an evaluation of the recoil. Will be doing a function testing, I have DPMS,Armalite buffer springs and several different weights of buffers. Hopefully I wont have to add weight to the BCG. I should be assembling it this weekend and shooting it next week. 8) :sniper: I also will be using different ammo, have close to 600 rounds of 30 cal 300WSM from 100gr to 200gr with alot in the 150 to 168gr range. Its surprising how much ammo you can make in 6 months. Picture will follow , for those of you who need that daily dose of gun porn ! ;D

Another update: The 270WSM barrel threads are cut for the barrel extention and a roughed in barrel profile is done. Also the 300WSM barrel is in about the same condition and it is 21" long and about 3 1/2 lbs.

Nice build Robo ! What a cool gesture, it is so fulfilling to give back to the ones who have helped you over the years. That a great story too. <thumbsup>

.308 Winchester Nosler Custom Match Grade 168 Grain Ammunition
MikedaddyH replied to imschur's topic in Ammunition
No, but I would buy it just for the brass ! Cant go wrong with Nosler Brass. :sniper: When your shooting do you hear this sound : $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ , $ . <laughs> <lmao> -
Yeah, I'm the sucker ! I bought a case of 1000 in the fall of 2009. It is german miltary practice ammo. It is accurate up to 200 yards ,the tip separates from the body and could kill small animals at close range. It will not cycle in any of my AR guns, two of my freinds were shooting them in their shops and it is quite loud. One bolt gun had problems with the firing pin not having enough pressure to set them off. Plus side super cheap to shoot and almost no recoil. I still have an untouched half case{500} Would be good if you were teaching a teenager to shoot but that would be it , PITA to do single shots. Mike

Killshot slow down, I'm not starting any thing here. Just saying that I could get a good quality DI 308 style gun for $1700-$1800 . A piston version might cost $2300 + . LWRC ,LaRue & POF would be on my wall if I could afford them but I choose to spend my hobby money in other ways. I can build a smooth running AR at less than the price of a big name manufacturer. I live in one of the hot beds in the AR manufacturing arenas equal to IL & MN. Three of my freinds have 4 HAAS cnc machines and 1 EDI units. I know people on both sides of the POF-Hogan camp. Sun Devil Manufacting is just around the corner and they have quality parts as well. My next two lowers will be a POF & Sun Devil 308s. I might be getting a "good old boys" deal on some of their products but I'm not complaining. As far as the gun shops in Phoenix I have been to most of them and if you look and wait you can get a deal. I dont know about the area where you live but here you can find pretty much anything. Money talks BS walks !
